Medvedev warned the United States that Russia will respond to the planned deployment of U.S. missile interceptors in Poland and a related radar in the Czech Republic, but he did not specify what measures Russia would take.

Bravo!!! That was the act a responsible nation should done....The NMD was a system threatening both Russia and China's security it should be dismantled ASAP!

Medvedev also criticized the United States for arming the Georgian military and claimed that Washington had given a green light to Saakashvili to launch the Aug 7 offensive to regain control over the breakaway province of South Ossetia.

Similar scenario like Taiwan...China has responded with thousand of ballistic missles as retaliation of renegades.Russia's warning over the situation of Gerorgia was 'playing the real thing' with teeths! The KGB man really has the guts I like!

Medvedev urged Ukraine to hold a referendum on its leadership’s push to join NATO. People in Ukraine’s western regions support the bid, while most residents of Russian-speaking eastern and southern provinces oppose it.

It's time to topple the regieme in Kiev that was backed by'orange revoulution'!

The NMD was a system threatening both Russia and China's security it should be dismantled ASAP!" I thought they were to be used as shields and I may understand Russia's point, but how do put China in that mix?

We all know that this was an aggression persuaded by the Washington war-mongers and chicken hawks and Georgia got caught and was placed right between the sights and george bush offered aid instead of military support. < :-)

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev sternly warned the West on Tuesday that it would lose more than Moscow

Immature, typical Russian.

“I attribute these calls to electoral technologies, a desire to boost ratings using some conflict. If Iran isn’t enough, why not take the Caucasus issue,” he said.

Heh, you know it's bad when putin's man is even openy laughing at republican scare-mongering....and he's right.

U.S. presidential candidate John McCain was among those who called for Russia’s expulsion from the elite club of the world’s richest countries.

No big loss for Russia. I think what the World needs to see now is that we are either going to have Palin or Obama replacing the psychotic Bush/Cheney executive branch. Things get better for once.

Unfortunately, in some way it's true that the Countries that have the economical ties with Russia (import/export) may lose a lot. Russia is a huge market to sell the product, and Russia supplys the gas and oil to many European countries.

Russia invades Georgia and the world "responds" with very visible, measurable, and understandable reactions. The world's major players are speaking and are ready to actually "do something" about Russias agressiveness. In contrast, the World remained absolutely silent when the USA invaded Iraq ! Plain as the nose on the boobug's face, the world absolutely agreed with Bush, and I'll bet you a ruble or two Bush has known this from day one. Sad bit of commentary for all you Bush haters.

Not so. It's not that the world agrees with Bush. It's that no one is going to bell the cat.

Russia's get-rich-quick days will be over soon. Western European nations are ready to start construction of giant electricity generating wind machine sites soon, greatly reducing dependence on energy by rogue states.

I really don't know why so many here are in support of Russia.

I really don't know why so many here are in support of Russia.

Because unlike recent American (and friends) adventures, Russia has a rather legitimate reason for what it has done in Georgia. What happened in Afghanistan and Iraq would be like Russia invading Iceland in response to Georgia's attack of S Ossetia. The countries that criticize Russia are in absolutely no position to do so.

They don't support Russia. They support how Russia's position in the situation can be used to attack the US. And attacking the US is what they support.

So, I finally see how Sabi works. It was Ok Russia invaded Afghanistan for whatever reason. The US enters the Afghanistan to fight the people who took over a country and assisted in attacking America. Sure going into Iraq was a mistake if you look at it as a country only, but many non-Muslims supported the idea of finally standing up to Muslim aggresion. But, still, I know how much your hatred is for a many certain kind, but never thought you would have been a supporter of the Taliban.

"They don't support Russia. They support how Russia's position in the situation can be used to attack the US. And attacking the US is what they support." Do you foresee something like that happening now that GWB is gone and Obama will be leading? (I'd Sabi to answer that as well)

Sabi-wabi makes it very clear for all of us to see. America (&friends) had no legitimate grounds to go into Afghanistan (when was that again) and Iraq. But Russia was justified in invading Georgia . . . Uhh, no, it still isn't clear to me, sorry. What made it OK for Russia to roll its tanks and troops into Georgia and in spite of promises to withdraw did not do so? I am confused.

I think there's a difference between attacking the US and not forgiving it for setting a bad example.

I can honestly say I do not give one fig newton of support for either Russia or Georgia. To heck with them both. The overwhelming concern here is for the people of S. Ossetia to be able to choose for themselves.

The majority want to be part of Russia. Most of those even hold Russian passports! The only reason S. Ossetia went to Georgia was geography. To heck with geography too. Those people have a right to choose their future and their affiliations. I am not impressed with the land greediness of Georgia or Russia, and that is about the only true interest either of them have. And I am not impressed with people taking one of those two sides either. Only the desires of the people of S. Ossetia matter, clearly.

Unfortunately the Russians don't even realize that or that would be all they say rather than this tough talk. They should can it and start talking about the rights of self-government.

Give it a rest Superlib. Other than the precedent the US set invading Iraq, there is no reason to attack the US in spite of all the Russian lamp-post pissing...

Yeah, let's not forget about how the steel for the turbines are made. A strong breeze wafts through the steel works and forges steel, right? No. I think Western Europe is going to be very dependent upon fossil fuels for the far future. That puts Russia in the driver's seat and the pansy leadership of Western Europe in diapers or worse.

If the decision to deploy missile interceptors is made, if the radar is switched on, we will have to respond to that because we haven’t received any reasonable explanation why it’s being done,” Medvedev said

Well said! Russia should sending her awesome Tu-160 fleet raiding those cites to make sure no threats possess to this world! The NMD was to make sure those warmongers in pentagon attacking any countries in this world without considering any retailiations! It was Russia and China's nuclear arsenals serving as counter balances that keep this world safe!China has demonstrated her anti satellite capabilities now is Russia's turn to show of force!

NATO nations depend on Russia to move supplies to the alliance troops in Afghanistan.

It should be done long ago and it was wrong totally wrong that Putin has allowed this in 2001!! The presents of Nato troops in Afghanistan has nothing to do with anti terror. In fact they are used to infiltrating into those former soviet 'stan' in central to acquire of oil and natural gas! The Georgia was an example like Ukraine it was run by a puppet regieme backed by 'orange' revolutions; a covert operation. It was stab in the back on Russia!

This is the most brilliant and well written analysis I have read so far. And Medvedev is the man: big words, big threats.
