And who suffers here? The children! Instead of a middle class or better off family they will grow up in orphanages. They are just political pawns for the Russian leaders (Putin).

If they are sincere and would love the children what does it matter?

I do question the adoptive parents' motives but not whether they will love their adopted children, wherever they may be from. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me that people would spend more time, energy, and money, to adopt a child from a totally different culture on the other side of the planet when there are plenty of children who are just as deserving of a loving family in their own town, state, etc. It's a shame but not our problem that Russians have a lot of children in substandard orphanages, but it is our problem that there are as many children who remain in American orphanages than are adopted in American in any given year. I hope these adoptive parents who choose to adopt kids from lesser developed countries aren't doing it because they somehow feel like they're accomplishing more than if they were to adopt a child locally/domestically, but I suspect that many do.

what's so special about Russian children anyway? Why not adopt American?

Could some one explain why Americans want to adopt Russian children when there are untold numbers in America that should be adopted!

Well, Caucasian children are fewer than demand calls. Yes an excess of Black children waiting for adoption.

Despite the headline and article content, it is not just a ban on adoptions by Americans. Russia has moved to stop adoptions to all countries that allow same-sex marriages. In fact, Russian authorities go well beyond that. A Canadian couple I know who live in Moscow had their pending adoption of a Russian child halted due to Putin's decree.

Let the little people be little people.

What some of you don't understand with the demand for the russian children is they are less than a year old. Caucasian adoptive parents often want a child that may look their own. Caucasian infants are years on a waiting list. Toddlers and older are much less desirable. Same as black infants, much less desirable for many caucasian adoptive parents.

Reading the comments here seems to be endorsing racial selection for adoption.....

Could be that the rules, regulations and hoops needed to be jumped through in the US make it preferable to adopt outside the country.
