Stunning hypocrisy.

You couldn't make this stuff up.

"Romney accused Democratic President Barack Obama of backing "reckless defense cuts" amounting to $1 trillion. "There are plenty of places to cut in a federal budget that now totals over $3 trillion. But defense is not one of them," Romney said.

Romney's reference to $1 trillion in defense cuts was a 10-year figure that combined reductions already enacted by Congress and reductions scheduled to begin next January as a result of Congress' failure to reach agreement on a broad plan to cut deficits.

He did not say so in his speech, but most Republicans, including Ryan, voted for the first installment as well as the second."

bass: "Mr. Factoid" and uncaring Paul Ryan might not come off in a debate as well as you think.

11 ( +15 / -3 )

SmithinJapan: As soon as Ryan is asked any questions about abortion or gay rights he's screwed.

Damn straight. Not even Ann Romney's wholesome all-American family story is going to save them.

America has progressed and moved on.

In contrast, the conservative folks have regressed.

Ryan/Romney: all aboard to set sail for the 16th century! Full steam backwards!?

Lol :-)

The Ryan Budget

As Catholic Sisters, we must speak out against the current House Republican budget, authored by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI). We do so because it harms people who are already suffering.

There will be a "Nuns in the Bus" protesting against Paul Ryan.

The Ryan Budget would: •Raise taxes on 18 million hardworking low-income families while cutting taxes for millionaires and big corporations. •Push the families of 2 million children into poverty. •Kick 8 million people off food stamps and 30 million off health care.

NETWORK’s Executive Director, Sister Simone Campbell, said in a recent media interview that Catholic Sisters “know the real-life struggles of real-life Americans.” It is this knowledge that impelled us to organize this bus trip. When the federal government cuts funding to programs that serve people in poverty, we see the effects in our daily work. Simply put, real people suffer. That is immoral. Click on the links below to see how the Ryan budget affects people in your state.

"Are you better off than you were 4 years ago?"

That would be August 2008, when the banks were in full free-fall, AIG was melting down, the automobile companies were going bankrupt, and unemployment was rising fast.

Uh - yeah. We are better than 4 years ago.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

bass4funk: As soon as Ryan is asked any questions about abortion or gay rights he's screwed, not to mention a bevy of other things. He'll make McCain's deer-in-headlights moment look like high-paced action by comparison.

6 ( +12 / -4 )

In contrast, Obama and Bush did the smarter thing - picked older veeps, both of whom brought serious firepower and experience to the ticket, and who weren't wide-eyed ambitious to get the top job.

Smart. Very smart.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

bass - "So what is Obama's excuse?"

He doesn't need one.

He won.

5 ( +9 / -3 )

All you do is name call.

No, bass, I have given you the facts what he is standing for. That's very low.

America is only for the riches, and the poor have look for bread crumbs from their dinner table. That's very low.

My concience is very clear from the beginning that America belong to everyone, not only for the Riches, not only for the Poor, not only for the White, not only for the Blacks, not only for the Latinos, not only for Asians. America belongs to everyone. That's why we call this country as United States of America. Everyone needs a fair share in life.

Paul Ryan is not giving a fair share to everyone in this country. I believe he is very low.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Bass - "Nothing is wrong with being Pro-life and standing by your convictions and principles, as long as you respect women's rights."

LOL!!! Again you have things backwards. You do actually realize that makes absolutely no sense, right?

Hint question: What does 'mutually exclusive' mean? :-)

4 ( +7 / -2 )

I can't help but think that the 2012 Republican platform has been custom-tailored appeal to Evangelical congregations in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The true believers are sure to agree with their agenda, which is right out of the 1920s Bible Belt.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

It amazes me when Mr. Romney talks about debt, with the clock and all. But then again, he does know a lot about debt. He took on a lot of it at Bain, pushed it off on the shoulders of others, and walked away with a bunch of money!

4 ( +6 / -2 )

@Bass I'm slightly confused here. You say you liked 'our previous president'. Is that the same guy big-spending guy who turned a surplus into a defecit? You come across as a fiscal conservative who believes in living within your means but admired a man who as president made money disappear as quickly as he did as a failed businessman.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

bass4funk: One thing you can DEFINITELY look forward to is Mitt constantly doing 180s while Ryan embarrassingly tries to dodge any questions.

3 ( +9 / -4 )

...work hard and sacrifice and WORK HARD ... and eat out of trash cans...

Congratulations, bass. You've just encapsulated the GOP agenda for the majority of Americans.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Wow, a comment of actual veracity has emanated from this convention!

“The demographics race we’re losing badly,” said Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.). “We’re not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term.”

3 ( +6 / -3 )

"He took on a lot of it at Bain, pushed it off on the shoulders of others, and walked away with a bunch of money!"

Put him in the Oval Office and he'll do it to America.

An asset stripper grooming himself to govern a bankrupt entity......USA beware!

3 ( +5 / -2 )

@Bass So you didn't like Bush's big spending, but you liked him. What did you like? His brilliantly executed wars which have left Afghanistan and Iraq prosperous and looking forward to a bright future? Your attacks on Obama invariably mention big spending - I can't quite nail down why you would like Bush. Many on the right see Bush as a big spender who descended into SOCIALISM by bailing out failing businesses. All very strange....

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Good. That pretty much assures a loss in popularity polls.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Click on the links below to see how the Ryan budget affects people in your state.

http://nunsonthebus.com/

Mr. Paul Ryan, I will be paying attention everything what you will say tonight that has been prepared for you by two speech writers. Hope your mom is there with a diaper bag on stage. Good luck, Mr. Fake.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Bass, how is Mitt going to explain his choice of Ryan when their house of cards implodes in November?

I think he'll at least get some points for picking a veep who actually has an IQ larger than a sandwich.

Bad luck about the position on women tho.

That's a slap in the face to a major voting block.

And let's not mention immigration and Latinos.

2 ( +5 / -2 )

This is really going beyond pathetic to absurd. This came Tuesday:

"We're not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers," Romney pollster Neil Newhouse said at a panel organized by ABC News.

...which is really just stating what has long been clear: that the Romney campaign has little if any regard for reality. Must be a GOP thing; remember when that Bush official said,

We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we'll act again, creating other new realities....

How did that work out, by the way?

So Ryan condemns Obama in his speech for the closure of a GM factory that happened during the previous presidency! (He also attributed a quote to Obama which Obama never uttered, but that is another thing.)

Right there at that plant, candidate Obama said, 'I believe that if our government is there to support you … this plant will be here for another hundred years.' That’s what he said in 2008. Well, as it turned out, that plant didn't last another year," Ryan continued. "It is locked up and empty to this day. And that’s how it is in so many towns today, where the recovery that was promised is nowhere in sight.

Sheeze, the Repubs are criticizing the Dems for holding Bush responsible for the aftermath of the mess he made, yet they are also criticizing Obama for not solving events that happened during the Bush administration. Perhaps if he were Romney he could "retroactively" right things.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Ryan was on the President's debt reduction commission. They came up with some recommendations which Ryan than voted against, saying

Obviously, I’m not going to vote for it.... it not only didn’t address the elephant in the room, health care, it made it fatter.

During his speech, he complains:

(Obama) created a bipartisan debt commission. They came back with an urgent report. He thanked them, sent them on their way, and then did exactly nothing.

So Ryan is angry that Obama did not act on the commissions recommendations, those recommendations that the president never received because Ryan voted against them.

He then proceeds to demand that we cut entitlements, but criticizes Obama for cutting Medicare expenditures despite his above quote about health care being "the elephant in the room."

My, my; that is quite a rabbit hole.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

@WilliB Listen to the speeches and rhetoric - 'anger' and 'rages' seem pretty accurate to me. What do you expect? A dispassionate analysis based on a range of studies? This is the GOP reaching out to people who have only read one book and whose economic knowledge is 'render unto Caesar'. Sorry that's an exaggeration - some may have read the 'Left Behind' series and/or 'Chicken Soup for the Soul'.

2 ( +5 / -2 )

I can't comprehend how the Rupublican speakers can keep a straight face when they talk about the importance of education................just saying.

2 ( +5 / -2 )

Romney and Ryan need only to ask the question Ronald Reagan asked the voters:

"Are you better off than you were 4 years ago?"

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Yes, if I were a Republican I'd be angry too. Their candidate in 2008 got solidly trounced by a young African-American with a funny-sounding foreign name. Hard to live that down. So assisted by the evil Australian-owned propaganda network Faux News they started chipping away at his religion, national origin and any other outrageous lies they could fabricate from the day after his inauguration. I promise not to gloat on JT, but I can hardly wait to see the agonized expressions on Republicans' ruddy faces when the election returns come in and it's announced Obama has won a second term.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Obama is the man!!! A true patriot. The Grand Ol Party gets nothing from me.

I noticed some people talking about working hard, sacrifice, eating out of trash cans if you have to. That's exactly what the rich and the GOP want. If they could they'd make us like that movie "Time".

The Horatio Alger syndrome ended the moment Bush gave tax breaks to companies that outsourced jobs.

Unfortunately for Republicans Bush was the great wake up call America needed. He let American cities rot while Republicans supportted foreign interests. Republicans supported corporate when he should have supported citizens.

This argument about "Big Government" vs "Small Government" is NOT any issue but a distraction. Small Government leaves much room for corruption. It undermines the highest documents in the land.

It's not a civil war but an economic class war. Obama stands with the people. Romney stands with the rich.

I'm sure this thread could easily get a 1000 posts but here's the bottom line.

No matter what you say, what Romney says. I will NEVER vote for a man who doesn't pay his fair share of taxes.

There are only 2 things in life that are certain. death and taxes.

Mitt Romney can't lead by example cause he doesn't put his own money into America's economy. He won't produce his tax returns because if he perjures himself, he's done. If he could win, I believe its an impeachable offense.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

@bass, I applauded to a speech of Condy Rice. She showed her class and shined unlike Paul Ryan. In her speech, she mentioned about the 14th Amendment as exactly I stated. Job well done, Professor Rice.

.Worry about the economy

Are you telling me that you are dropping a ball? I need to know who you are and what you believe in. Let me make you proud that you understand the issues.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

For single women that might be a problem, but when it comes to married women, things change quite a bit. Nothing is wrong with being Pro-life and standing by your convictions and principles, as long as you respect women's rights

So if said married woman gets raped and pregnant her husband can assume by republican standards that she wanted it? That wouldn't be a "legitimate rape". And those are Ryan's words.

That position is a problem for married women as well.

Social issues will cost the republicans this election.

The Bushes screwed America royally! The first Bush got us into a short mess bombing Iraq, the Jr Bush had the bright idea of INVADING Iraq to look for them nasty weapons of mass destruction, to later find out they were ALL LIES, and now we have fools still trying to blame the bad American economy on Mr.Obama, who has been trying his best to HELP the American economy get pulled out from the whole that stupid, greedy REPUBLICANS got America into?? Do we want fools like Mitt Romney to get their GREEDY hands back into the US White house and say START A NEW WAR with IRAN??

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Dominoes, Sports Authority, AMC, Dunkin' Donuts - wonderful jobs, all, for high school students!

At least some High School students were able to find work through the companies Romney and Bain were investing in. If not these numbers under Obama would be even worse for them.

It's never been easy being a teenager. Now, try being a teenager looking for work.

Although some programs are trying to help young Americans get jobs, the unemployment rate for 16-to-19-year-olds who want to work now stands at 24.2 percent, according to the May report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, released Friday. Among African-American teens, the rate is 40.7 percent.

These are lies of Paul Ryan from his speech yesterday. I sum them up as listed below:

1) Medicare

2) American Recovery Act

3) Attacking Obama for closing GM plant at Janesville, WI

Furthermore, he failed to come up with plans for solutions. He hinted there will be "no choice for abortion". He aslo hinted that policy will be very friendly for Big Business and the Wall Street, not for the middle class Americans.

The speech was carefully written and very subtle. He is willing to "sell" us at the expense of extremist Big Business. They've got money while we do not. Let's get back to work and stop these special previledge groups who are just about taking over this country. We can do stop this in solidarity!!

1 ( +4 / -3 )

"Fear and division are all they’ve got left.”

I find this statement ironic.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The Janesville GM plant went into standby capacity status in May 2009. That would be 5 months into Obama's Presidency. That's straight from GM's own website.

Ryan's being dishonest. If you can't admit that then....

Photos of workers during GM's last day of SUV production.

1 ( +3 / -1 )

@gcbel, thank you for sharing the photo.

If you read my previous posts on Ryan being a fake, this is one of many other reasons I am strongly against Ryan. The republican may end up losing Ohio which is still in question. They are now counting on Wisconsin voters. I am not sure if this lie will help for Romney/Ryan ticket. .

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Ryan lied at the convention

@sailwind: You can be perfectly obtuse if you like, but it's clear what Ryan was implying and it's clear that the plant was closing in Dec 2008.

Whether it took 5 months for the last Isuzu's to be completed, the plant mothballed, and the lights turned off doesn't change the fact. You can't be a straight arrow and claim the contrary, sorry, that's the fact.

1 ( +4 / -2 )

Ryan was telling it like it is at the convention.

Desperate to salvage a lie?

This is getting tedious.... You can spin, wash, repeat till the cows come home on this one. Intelligent folk can just check this out for themselves, make their own minds up.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/wp/2012/08/30/obama-could-not-have-saved-janesville-gm-plant-it-closed-before-he-took-office/

in short... just another addition to the growing list of misrepresentations, distortions, and lies that just keep streaming from the right.

Romney pollster: "We're not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers." Of course not.

[Obama] As a president, he has been a horrendous failure.

Pffff.... Safe to say we can brush aside this hysterical and also tired hyperbole. Bush was a [likeable guy but] disaster by any standard.... and, much as you'd like Democrats to have had an equally disastrous presidency, Obama has done as well as could be expected given the circumstances. I could fault the guy for a few things, chief among them trying to compromise with the other side way past when it was obvious they were hellbent on destroying his presidency at any cost.

Relieved we dodged the McCain/Palin bullet. Certain Romney would pick up were Bush left off. See no reason why we should listen to the folks who twice voted for Bush and got us where we are now.

1 ( +4 / -2 )

I'm embrassed when I see the world see us at our worse. The GOP is doing a great job of lying. President Obama has done an outstanding job. Remember, congress would not vote once on anything he wanted, ( you know, jobs bills, tax cuts for the middle class. anything that would make him have an success was not voted on). and still, We're out of Iraq. we have a credible timetable for getting out of Afganistand He has helped stop a certain country from nuking Iran. He has increased pressure on Iran to stop with the nuke making. he put our Marines in the pacific, so to give caustion to a certain country who would love to move southward. oh, he got obin .

and for the first time, we all are covered with health care.

Now that's what I call an accomplishment.

1 ( +4 / -2 )

The truth is that President Obama had complete control of government his first two years in office.

Another lie.

Obama only had a filibuster-proof majority for a couple of brief periods during his first 2 years;

http://blogs.chicagotribune.com/news_columnists_ezorn/2012/06/what-a-surprise-schock-repeats-the-big-gop-lie-1.html

*The claim, that Obama ruled like a monarch over Congress for two years -– endlessly intoned as a talking-point by Republicans -- is more than just a misremembering of recent history or excited overstatement. It’s a lie.

It’s meant to represent that Obama’s had his chance to try out his ideas, and to obscure and deny the relentless GOP obstructionism and Democratic factionalism he’s encountered since Day One.*

"We're not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers."

1 ( +1 / -0 )

It is precisely this type of direct verbal anger that turns off Independant Voters..... you already have the Conservative vote no matter what.... so when you have your convention direct it towards rational thinkers not the guys you already have.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Romney's taxes are around 14% because Hedge funds are set up whereby payouts / compensation.... is taxed as a capital gain and not as actual income. This in itself is 100% legal..... the problem is.... it is not fair.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Yes, I will agree there is a lot mudslinging going on, but it started with Obama.

False. It started with Republicans when they started bushing the Birther nonsense. Then it continued with the Death Panels. As far as this specific campaign goes, Romney started it when he deliberately misquoted Obama.

The very first ad that came out about Obama this campaign season was an ad for Romney. It quoted Obama as saying, "if we keep talking about the economy, we're gonna lose."

But the fact of the matter is that the Romney campaign deliberately edited out the proper context. That quote was from 2008 and the full quote went, "Senator McCain's campaign actually said, and I quote, 'if we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose.'" Obama was QUOTING HIS OPPONENT AND CRITICIZING THAT QUOTE! Yet Romney deliberately lied and portrayed that quote as if it was Obama referring to his campaign in 2012.

When asked about the deliberate lie, do you know what Romney's response was? "What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander."

So if you've got a problem with anyone misrepresenting Romney, just remember that Romney launched the opening salvo and by Romney's own standards of campaigning, "what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander."

1 ( +1 / -0 )

The GOP top-of-the-ticket have made the same mistake 2 election cycles in a row: picking a veep candidate who is too young and eager.

Palin and Ryan - she was only 44 when McCain picked her. Ryan is even younger at 42.

Both had big ambitions, saw the opportunity to make it big, and grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

But as history has shown and will show, Palin simply didn't have anywhere near the mental horsepower, and Ryan is too similar to Romney.

Bye and bye bye.

Sorry conservatives. Maybe you'll learn from your mistakes next time. :-)

0 ( +5 / -4 )

Sorry, not true, America is for ANYONE that wants to work hard and sacrifice and WORK HARD like my parents did and as I have. You will always have poor in every society, my did used to eat out of trash cans, so I do know first hand.

You just made my point for me, thanks. This is why liberalism is impeding that philosophy of what America truly is. We are a self-reliance nation and not a nanny state nation, but this President has put us on the nipple of dependence. We are better than that.

I hope you have a chance to read the Constitution of United States for your true understanding. Many legal professional go into the legal professions as they strongly believe in Liberty, Equality, Justice for ALL. America belongs to EVERYONE, not Anyone. That's a big difference. How about people in disabilities? How about people who lost jobs not at their fault? These people have no rights as well as you do? These people have to eat bread crumbs from the table? Sounds like that what you are saying here.

. Ryan is a deficit Hawk

Well, if you claim as you are an expert in politics and economics, you understand the economic chart of C and I and G spendings will create uptrend, right? Austerity is a wrong things to do when the conomy is in down trend for job growth and economic prosperity.

Bush has already admitted he failed to do enough spendings for job growth after his 5 years in Washington. He simply enjoyed a positive economic spill ove from Clinton for the first 4 years. He knows it, that's the reason he is not at the Convention.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

He was actually doing pretty well, a decent orator. Then he had get religious and he lost me.....shame. His playlist starts at AC/DC and ends at Zep, Cant dislike him for that.

Viewing the news I just laughed to see that MSNBC refused to show people of addressing the delegates at the convention. Talk about racist. Why do Mia Love and Arthur Davis scare them so much ?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

"Uh - yeah. We are better than 4 years ago."

U.S. National debt has gone up nearly 50% since 2008. How is that better???

The only thing "better" is U.S. equity market - but at the expense of a messed up bond market. And one share of the S&P 500 you can buy only HALF the gold that you could in 2008.

Corn, soybeans, and wheat are at/near prices that match those in 2008.

Republican anger at Obama rages at convention

I think that headline is off the mark.

There were a lot of things talked about, in a calm, positive, and direct way. I felt inspiration from the collection of intelligent speakers, each adding in their personal way, another reason to vote Romney/Ryan.

Ryan's speech was level-headed, and as uplifting as I can remember-

Nothing raging, about it.

So Ryan condemns Obama in his speech for the closure of a GM factory that happened during the previous presidency!

The Janesville GM plant went into standby capacity status in May 2009. That would be 5 months into Obama's Presidency. That's straight from GM's own website.

Two other GM assembly plants in Spring Hill, Tenn. and Janesville, Wis. were also under consideration to build the future small car. Spring Hill will be placed in standby capacity status in Nov. 2009, as announced earlier this month. The plant could be brought online at some point in the future should GM require additional capacity due to increased market demand. Janesville was placed on standby capacity in May 2009 and will remain in that status.

Dominoes, Sports Authority, AMC, Dunkin' Donuts - wonderful jobs, all, for high school students! Romney as a businessman rode the wave of the information revolution and its effects on the supply line: get your materials cheaper, upsize to cut costs, keep wages at the minimum, and drive competitors out of business. I would challenge you to go into a Sports Authority or Staples and find something made in the US; it was their ability to import that drove their success.

I am not saying that this is a bad thing; I am saying that Romney got lucky, as many of his type do. It's not like he invented the iPod or supported any company that did.

Regarding the SLCO, you might find many who resent the attention he has claimed.

He was successful at spotting a trend and investing in companies that could exploit this trend. That is all. It is doubtful that this success is transferable to the presidency.

0 ( +3 / -2 )

Last night's big winner for me was Rand Paul. To go to your party convention and talk about both parties needing to slay their sacred cows was an excellent counterpoint to many of the hardline partisans that spoke. McCain's speech was also noteworthy.

Once again, could not get into the musical guests.

We are better than 4 years ago.

Depends on who you ask. The stock market is up, commodities sucks, unemployment is down, growth seems to be slowing, the banks aren't making as much noise, lending has tightened, and we're still in two wars and GITMO is still there. Really it's a mixed bag. On the whole I'd say that the US is a little better off but I can already see the the domino's being set up for the next fall unless some of the big problem issues like Medicare, Social Security, and the Affordable Care Act get some serious restructuring.

Say what you want for the ACA, I'm personally against it, but everybody can agree that it's a bill that was passed rather hasitly and is loaded with some very concerning legislation that makes employment and business growth incredibly expensive. While I'd love to see it repealed outright I can settle for a restructuring, right now it's a cumbersome mess.

Anyone who thinks a pack of politicians, much less two, can fix the economy, does not know how the economy was built.

I agree. So we can both agree that having politicians, any politician, throw billions of dollars at companies in the form of bailouts and failed stimulus was a terrible idea because none of them have any idea in regard to the complexities of an economy built and maintained by hundreds of millions of citizens working in concert?

An asset stripper grooming himself to govern a bankrupt entity

If he gave any indication that he intended to sell off mass swaths of government held assets I might actually vote for him. Sadly, that is not the case. The US currently sits on hundreds of billions in untouched or underutilized assets both physical and intellectual. A lot of money could be freed up for reallocation if large chunks of these were sold off to either private interests or handed over to state governments.

Amtrak has been singlehandedly crippling any chance for US passenger rail through its horrible rates, poor service, and inability to attract customers. The Federal Department of Education budget has gone from 32 billion in 2009 to 71 billion in 2011 with NO impact on test scores, attendence, or graduation rates. The Americans with Disabilities Act currently costs busineses throughout the US millions of dollars a year for compliance, millions more fighting discrimination lawsuits, and has actually reduced the number percentage of disabled individuals able to find jobs. The Glass Steagall act was repealed under Clinton and allowed banks ment to hold money and make individuals loans to enter into high finance sorcery. The Department of Homeland Security was created by combining the seperate departments of Customs and Immigration but now costs more in administrative costs and overhead than the two seperate entities ever did. The TSA has become overpriced and burdensome and studies have shown it to be inneffective at preventing terrorists from entering aircraft as evidenced by the underwear and shoe bomber who failed not because of the TSA but because of their own ineptitude.

So yes, asset stripping might very well be exactly what the Federal Government needs right now. Unfortunetly Romney has made no such claims and would probably do a lot of the same things Obama did.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

It's the Republican convention and logic has flown out of the window. We have posters screaming Socialism while defending Bush who effectively nationalised failing businesses. Best circus in town.

1) Medicare

Obama took 716 billion from medicare to fund Obamacare

Romney/Ryan plan is converting medicare to voucher systems with cap. You know what private health care industry will do. They will drive up the cost of premium so high, and nobody can afford it. You can get a health care online quote with $10 for primary care, $30 for specialist, $100 for emergency, $250 for inpatient surgery, $250 for hospital stay, 20% coinsurance with no cap at age 65. Tell me what kind of premium you will get. Okay? I know the premium you will get, but I am not giving away the answer for you.

The donut hole on Medicare prescription was created by Bush. He did not have a gut to raise tax.

2) American Recovery Act

Why do you say you are to cut down on government pork, and then sign off on the biggest government spending pork laden bill in history

Since American Recovery Act has been introduced, our failing bridges (more than 20) have been restored. We stopped many floodings by widening the drainage, creek and rivers. We have been in shortage of water supply, we can now afford to get water supply from another locations for our city, and for you. We are sending our water supply to YOU. Water restriction, sounds familiar? Thanks to Obama, you will get more water supply from US.. And shame on LAX airport filled with filth, broken toilet, no parking space. The airport is a level of 3rd undeveloped countries. I have been trying to avoid LAX at all cost. Sometimes, I need to pay more, but it is worth it. Look at Los Angeles Train Station, it is more than disgrace. We need to keep investing more on these failing infrastructures here in US. Tried, but failed, bass. It was closed when Bush was in Washington.

Abortion is NOT the issue now

Abortion is a big issue for this election. More than 430 Anti-Abortion legislations have been already introduced by Paul Ryan and GOP. We need to stop this. More than 50% of American Women disagree with you.

Printed money is Debt, debt means print more money, which means HIGHER debt and the lose of the value of the dollar.

Who took us to two wars, bass? Bush did not spend any on Capital investment in US. When you are shooting bullets and missles in the desert instead of spending money on Domestic Capital Investment, what do you get? That's what we are dealing with now. No job growth and no economic growth. This is called "Technical Eonomic Efficiency Spending" in your text book.

Chinese are laughing at us. Here is a cost of war to US.

The Socialist and socialism already took over this country and the people want it back!

For some reason, you never get it. Name the developed countries that are still in pure capitalism? I know the answer, but I will hold it until you do some research on this.

The way our economy is and the government paying out more than what they are taking in, there is no way, that we can afford it?

Your state is basically divided into two economic models ; the southern California focused on old Economy model heavily depended on Military contractors,Blue colar workers and the Northern California focused on Knowledge based New Global Economy such as the Silicon Valley White color workers.

It takes effective state political leaders to execute technical efficiency for job and economic growth to upgrade credit rating..

The debt is astronomical, not to mention, we will have to pay for Obamacare and how?

The Obamacare clearly states that this is only available to people who are Americans and Nuturalized legal residents of United States of America. It is clearly stated. when this question was raised

College education is not a constitutional right

If the college is funded by the State and Federal, it is a Constitutional issue under the 14th Amendment.

Where are you going to get that from?

By generating more tax revenue policy. Some still believe in cutting coupons will generate disposal income, no, no, no, people need to get real good paying jobs for disposal income. Jobs, jobs, and Jobs. Hope you understand the example I am using here?

I believe in progressive tax system, and all of us need to pay fair shares to the governments There aint any free ride anymore

So many kids default on their loans and then what happens?

No, they cannot default on student loans. Hope students are fully advised when applying student loans. That's one thing excluded from bankruptcy laws. It has always been that way and it will never change. If not paid up by retirement age, the federal government will deduct unpaid student loan from their SSI. I recall your family has alredy helped you to pay off your student loans. You are very lucky unlike many others.

This president will never be finished with spending us and our children's money into oblivion.

For job growth and economic growth, we need to invest more on domestic Capital spending. US Economy is based on Consumer spending model unlike Japanese and other European countries.

It shows that Ryan, and his party of republican radicals are now officially insane.

GM stopped SUV production, it did not stop medium truck production at the plant.

Workers on Isuzu line keep building medium-duty trucks

Full-size sport utility vehicle production has ended at the local General Motors plant, but medium-duty truck production is continuing—not starting—in Janesville.

And it likely will continue into May, when the lights finally go off in the facility that has been producing vehicles since 1923.

That would be MAY 2009.......5 months into the Obama's term.

Republican anger at Obama rages at convention

Not surprised to see such a biased headline. However, having seen the events it describes I knew the article couldn't live up to the hype. There is not so much anger at this point and more optimism with the Romney/Ryan ticket. Republicans at this point know that Romney is more likely than not to be the next president. The biggest theme is the sad resignation at the failures of President Obama and his turning his back on America's traditions and values.

Paul Ryan's speech was tremendous and right on the mark. It was a can do speech without the bile of the Obama campaign. The speech did however, present an an indictment of Obama's incompetence and failures over the past four years. Obama and Biden have no answers when it comes to improving the economy and unemployment - they are clueless. They have no interest in doing anything to stop the debt from destroying the future of America. They have no plans and can't even present and pass a budget through the regular legislative process. They are incapable of making the hard choices that must be made to put the country back on track.

I think Obama and his die hard supporters (including notables in the press) realize that he is going to lose power and they are getting desperate. They have resorted to calling Romney a murderer, a felon, a liar, and all kinds of other wild and ridiculous accusations. Obama has been a miserable president and he will lose on November 6th.

California is broke because of a number of "liberal", "conservative and other interests. Many people don't consider the prison industrial complex (with three strikes and you're out) designed to keep so many incarcerated. Also Proposition 13 is taken advantage of by corporations and wealthy people, so that they don't pay their fair share of taxes. Many of the state employees receive too generous of pensions as well. The list goes on. . .

0 ( +0 / -0 )

" I will NEVER vote for a man who doesn't pay his fair share of taxes."

Didn't John Kerry have his yacht towed out of state for repairs so he could pay less in taxes? So what is the "fair share" that Lefty's so often talk about? What percentage should Romney pay? The IRS ensures that millionaires and billionaires like Obama and Romney pay their taxes as the law requires. It seems your problem is with the law and not with Romney.

@gcbel:

Another lie. Obama only had a filibuster-proof majority for a couple of brief periods during his first 2 years;

It must be getting really bad for Democrats when they feel it necessary to deny an objective truth such as the fact that Democrats had a filibuster proof majority in Congress until Scott Browns victory in Mass. in the special election to replace Kennedy

It’s meant to represent that Obama’s had his chance to try out his ideas, and to obscure and deny the relentless GOP obstructionism and Democratic factionalism he’s encountered since Day One.*

Obama steamrolled his agenda through Congress without any Republican support - because he didn't need it. I don't understand the necessity to deny an objective fact. With Brown's surprise victory in Massachusetts all that changed. Yet he still had an overwhelming majority in the Senate - just one shy of being filibuster proof. All he needed to do is get one Republican to vote with him. However, he had trouble getting some Democrats to vote for ObamaCare and had to bribe two Democrats just to get them on board.

Obama is a partisan ideologue and that is why he has had trouble over the last two years in getting his agenda passed. He is incapable of compromising even with the two moderate NE Republican senators Snowe and Collins.

Please, get a hold of yourself. Face up to the fact that Obama has been a failure. His leftist Che Guevara ideology doesn't sell in a nation like the United States. I am expecting a hate-fest during the Democratic Convention in Charlotte next week. Hate and division is all Obama has left to run on. He can't run on his accomplishments because the economy is still in the tank and Americans can't stand ObamaCare.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@gcbel:

Hilarious ! Either he was in complete control or he wasn't. Which is it?

Man, you are out there. Yes, for the first two years Obama was in complete control on the US government. What major initiative of his was blocked? Can you name one? Obama's stimulus bill was passed in February - a month after taking office and without Franken. The US economy entered the Obama recovery in June (well before much if any of the stimulus money could be spent by the way). The Lilly Ledbetter bill got through did it not? Most of his legislation was in committee during the first half of the year and he got his immediate legislation through anyway. Don't forget that Senator Arlen Spectator - who would soon change his party affiliation was virtually a Democrat at the time anyway (not to mention moderates Snow and Collins). He also got two two hard left Supreme Court justices.

Why make such frivolous excuses for Obama? He has been a failure even by his own standards. He admitted early in his administration that if he didn't get things turned around in three years he would be a one term president. Do you seriously think the US economy has been turned around? There are more people out of work now then when he took office and the unemployment rate is higher! Reagan turned around the economy; Obama pushed the car from the ditch into a swamp.

Obama had plenty of opportunities to pass his legislation. If he couldn't pass it in April, all he had to do was bring it up again in July when Franken gave him 60 in the Senate. So are you saying that anything that may have been blocked before the Summer of 2009 could not brought back up again when they got the super majority? You are not being rationale.

Too many people are making excuses for Obama and not holding him to the same standard as any other president would be. It is not in the interests of the American people to re-elect a president that has so demonstrably failed to do his job. Hey he tried. But you can't make a modern economy work with an inflexible political philosophy that is stuck in the 19th century.

Obama will lose on November 6th. He will sling a lot of mud and maybe accuse Romney or a few more murders along the way, but he will lose. It would defy common sense if he didn't.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

@Wolfpack

Man, you are out there.

Maybe, maybe.. least I'm not wound up tighter than an 8 day clock...

Yes, for the first two years Obama was in complete control on the US government. What major initiative of his was blocked? Can you name one?

Seems to me.. the DREAM act, the Climate change initiative, allowing the Bush era tax cuts expire for incomes over 250K,... etc.

And of course anything that actually was allowed to pass by the GOP the filibuster hurdle was scaled back: no public option in health care refrom, key appropriation bills... etc.

Obama did make some mistakes; for example when he compromised with Republicans to passing a watered-down stimulus package.

Fact is the GOP made it necessary to have a filibuster proof majority for practically each and every action. You say moderate republicans, I say Blue Dog democrats,..

Obama compromised, failed to push when he should have sometimes but to say that he got his way, all the way, all the time... is... just... plain... silly. You know it, I know it, and so does everybody else...

So, leftier than a leftist, leftie like Che Guevara ?

-1 ( +3 / -3 )

@Dent, I am having a trouble to understand what you are saying listed above. Please elborate further. Sounds like you are willing to cut spending in education. That's a plan of Romney/Obama.

My ideology in education has been derived from a book "A Wealth of Nation" written by Smith. Nothing to do with Obama.

I am speaking up on behalf of the generation "Z" whose access to higher education will be eliminated. Our life depends on them to succeed in global economy.

Paul Ryan's father and Paul Ryan himself completed higher education with a help of government support. We need to continue investing on our kids who are willing and striving to suceed instead of eliminating these funds currently.available to them. They will be the ones who will be contributing to our SSI and Medicare. They will be the ones who will make this country as a better place to live. We need to invest on them.

You need to admit that some of them are pretty smart and they will be somebody. We need to help them maximizing their potential to the fullest.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

@global

The Obamacare clearly states that this is only available to people who are Americans and Nuturalized legal residents of United States of America. It is clearly stated. when this question was raised

That was not my point. My point was, we cannot afford it, there is now way, so how is he going to pay for this? By raising taxes on everyone, he has to or you have to pay a penalty, so what's that? Obamacare’s penalty is a “tax,” not a “fee,” Mr. Obama is breaking a 2008 campaign pledge not to raise taxes on Americans earning less than $250,000. It will be a new “tax” and it will hit across the economic spectrum, despite his campaign declaration that health care should “never be purchased with tax increase on middle-class families.” But we know Obama is just full of words, words and more words, now, Obama and congressional Democrats have enacted THE largest tax increase in history-period!

Of course, for liberals that is always the answer, RAISE TAXES! Obama is taking over 1.2 trillion dollars a year out of money that would otherwise be invested in creating jobs. Now mind you the majority of that is borrowed money, which means, it is not ours, which means, we have to pay it back one day! The majority of borrowed money is used for investment spending and it is used to start and grow businesses and to create jobs, which the President failed to do. The reason we have such a slow recovery — is because he are taking 1.2 trillion dollars a year out of money that would otherwise be invested in creating jobs. Obama needs to CUT TAXES, but what does he do? He increased spending, he did this by raising the debt ceiling, which takes money from investment. And again, he wanted to raise it further, that is why he and John Boehner and the House squared off, because they didn't want to raise the debt ceiling unless they could get assurance that the President would cut spending, but we know that is NOT in Obama's character to do so. While low taxes is importaint, the most importaing thing for our economy is to pay off the debt. But how can we pay off this debt with a high unemployment of 8.3%? And please, don't use my home state as a model with the average unemployment is at 10.7% for California. For Blacks 14.4% and for Hispanics 11% and you want a progressive tax system?? Raise more taxes??? Do you know how that sounds??! This is why California is BROKE! Over taxation and liberals and lavish spending, borrowing, over paying public officials, over paying on early, early retirement pensions has turned my once great state into a pathetic zombie, entitlement state.

http://www.halfwaytoconcord.com/27-reasons-why-california-is-bankrupt/

You think the average American wants 4 more years of this?

But I digress.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Ryan was telling it like it is at the convention.

@gcbel

Whether it took 5 months for the last Isuzu's to be completed, the plant mothballed, and the lights turned off doesn't change the fact. You can't be a straight arrow and claim the contrary, sorry, that's the fact.

Your "facts" are merely spin. The fact is the plant was producing vehicles until April of 2009. The year before, Obama visited the plant and gave them hope that the plant would be open "another 100 years" if he were elected president. Ryan pointed out that Obama's hope is a false hope that he has failed to deliver on. Not only for this plant in Wisconsin, but for businesses and citizens all over the US. Sorry, but those are the facts.

Obama as person seems to be decent a likeable. As a president, he has been a horrendous failure. He is an exact reply of Jimmy Carter in his domestic incompetence and feckless foreign policy (Seal Team 6's accomplishments not withstanding).

-1 ( +1 / -3 )

President Obama has done an outstanding job. Remember, congress would not vote once on anything he wanted

The truth is that President Obama had complete control of government his first two years in office. He got everything he wanted - remember the stimulus and ObamaCare? The problem with the argument that Congress wouldn't vote for what he wanted is that it isn't true. He got what he wanted until after he forced a huge social program through Congress using highty partisan tactics and invective.

Since Obama got his economic agenda through the Democrat controlled Congress, he has no excuses for it's failure. Under very similar circumstances, Reagan inherited a horrendous economy from Carter and did not have full control of Congress. The unemployment rate was worse yet he plunged going into his re-election campaign and he won in a landslide.

Compared to Reagan's handling of the economy under very similar circumstances, Obama has been a huge failure. No more excuses, Obama needs to take responsibility for his failures. And he will when he loses re-election on November 6th.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

@Hiniku

Romney's taxes are around 14% because Hedge funds are set up whereby payouts / compensation.... is taxed as a capital gain and not as actual income. This in itself is 100% legal..... the problem is.... it is not fair.

I think that there should be a simple flat tax rate on all types on income whatever the source and whatever the income level - so I agree, the tax system isn't fair. The problem the Democrats have is that they didn't try to fix the tax system when Obama had complete control of the government during most of his first two years in office. Remember, John Kerry was the Democrat nominee just 4 years earlier and no one complained about his "unfair" tax advantages.

You cannot blame anyone but Congress for the American peoples use of the tax system in the way it was designed to be used.

Has nothing to do with his skin color. You do know that the majority of people that got Obama in the WH were white. As much as I liked our previous President, saying his last name bothered me and saying our VP first name annoyed me, put the two together, NOW that's a funny sounding name. The Aussie-American is no more of a threat to you liberals as to conservatives, that Hungarian-American with the Offshore bank accounts, trying to persuade the media, especially in TV and print. The network of which you speak has the majority of Americans watching it, love it how it burns you liberals, it was the best thing that could happen to you guys. I know, having worked at NBC for more than 11 years, Oh, I really have the inside scoop and regardless what you think, I know for a fact what is going on and it ain't at the dog network, but the peacock one. You may be right, Obama could win, there is a strong possibility, On likability Obama wins, on the economy Romney wins, but what if you are wrong? The election is so close, you can't call it either way, sorry. If anyone should be angry, it's the man sitting in the oval office. So people need to know if they want a rock star for a President or a proven businessman, again, PROVEN!

Can Justin Beber be the next President?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Well Obama has been little more than a disaster but Romney, dear God. I thought things couldnt get worse for America, but one of these guys is going to prove me wrong.

MOD: Please change it to

He is willing to "sell" us to the extremist Big Business. I got it backwards Thanks..

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

These are lies of Paul Ryan from his speech yesterday. I sum them up as listed below:

According to whom? Liberals that have their heads in the sand and sing: "La, la, la, I can't hear you?"

1) Medicare

Obama took 716 billion from medicare to fund Obamacare

2) American Recovery Act

Why do you say you’re going to cut down on government pork, and then sign off on the biggest government spending pork laden bill in history?

3) Attacking Obama for closing GM plant at Janesville, WI

Not so fast... http://edition.cnn.com/2012/08/30/politics/pol-fact-check-ryan-gm/index.html

Furthermore, he failed to come up with plans for solutions. He hinted there will be "no choice for abortion". He aslo hinted that policy will be very friendly for Big Business and the Wall Street, not for the middle class Americans.

Abortion is NOT the issue now, that can wait, the economy is THE HIGHEST priority, period! As for big business, he should be, Obama scared business out of the country, Big business that can create jobs, but liberals prefer wearing a paper hat, I guess. So how are the middle class going to work, oh, that's right, all the business left. Registered unemployment benefits are through the roof, but hey, as long as they can get stuff for free, right?

The speech was carefully written and very subtle. He is willing to "sell" us at the expense of extremist Big Business. They've got money while we do not. Let's get back to work and stop these special previledge groups who are just about taking over this country. We can do stop this in solidarity!!

Classic liberal rant, Mitt's got money and I don't! He should spread his wealth, poor me. Let's get back to work???? How? Your President is NOT doing anything to create jobs and to bring this unemployment and borrowing money. Remember: Printed money is Debt, debt means print more money, which means HIGHER debt and the lose of the value of the dollar. The Socialist and socialism already took over this country and the people want it back!

The speeches I saw were good ones, I liked the Candidate for Vice President Paul Ryan. He spoke of Christian values.

-3 ( +1 / -5 )

@Sushi

LOL!!! Again you have things backwards. You do actually realize that makes absolutely no sense, right?

What you say, most of the time, yes, I do.

@global

America is only for the riches, and the poor have look for bread crumbs from their dinner table. That's very low.

Sorry, not true, America is for ANYONE that wants to work hard and sacrifice and WORK HARD like my parents did and as I have. You will always have poor in every society, my did used to eat out of trash cans, so I do know first hand.

My concience is very clear from the beginning that America belong to everyone, not only for the Riches, not only for the Poor, not only for the White, not only for the Blacks, not only for the Latinos, not only for Asians. America belongs to everyone.

You just made my point for me, thanks. This is why liberalism is impeding that philosophy of what America truly is. We are a self-reliance nation and not a nanny state nation, but this President has put us on the nipple of dependence. We are better than that.

That's why we call this country as United States of America. Everyone needs a fair share in life.

Well, we finally agree on something! Amen, but with less intrusion of the Government.

Paul Ryan is not giving a fair share to everyone in this country. I believe he is very low.

Ryan is a deficit Hawk, you need to make serious scarifies and that is what real leadership is about, but the question is are many Americans willing to make that sacrifice to get us out of this financial nightmare this President has put us through or do they want to emulate a quasi-Socialist failing Europe and go down the road of Greece and France? The people have to decide.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

@global

Sounds like that what you are saying here.

http://www.freakonomics.com/2006/11/22/it-turns-out-conservatives-really-are-compassionate/

Hmmm...seems like liberals have a lot of catching up to do.

Well, if you claim as you are an expert in politics and economics, you understand the economic chart of C and I and G spendings will create uptrend, right? Austerity is a wrong things to do when the conomy is in down trend for job growth and economic prosperity.

Yep.

Bush has already admitted he failed to do enough spendings for job growth after his 5 years in Washington. He simply enjoyed a positive economic spill ove from Clinton for the first 4 years. He knows it, that's the reason he is not at the Convention.

That comment was so over the top...I am not even going to address it, that was just ridiculous what you said. Where do you get this stuff from, seriously OMG!!

bassfunk:

" Can't wait for the Biden/Ryan debate. Hope Biden is ready for the shellacking of his life. :-) "

I agree. However, expect both the moderator and the news networks to do their darnedest to make Ryan look bad and Joe look good. Remember, the republicans are not just running against another party, They are also running against the whole alphabet soup of ABC, CNN, NBC.... not to mention the lunatic fringe like MSNBC. They have Fox news on their side, but that is one lone outpost in the democrat partisian media landscape... the proverbial nail that sticks out so to say.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

@laguna

Congratulations, bass. You've just encapsulated the GOP agenda for the majority of Americans.

So now you want to label me a spokesperson for the GOP?? ROFL

@Willi

Exactly, I was watching the pundits from MSNBC and it was very, very hard for Maddow and Matthews to be and sound unbiased, even CNN did, I must admit a very good and fair job (with the exception of Piers Morgen, whom no one watches) was being a little snide, but all in all it was done well.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Viewing the news I just laughed to see that MSNBC refused to show people of addressing the delegates at the convention. Talk about racist. Why do Mia Love and Arthur Davis scare them so much ?

Didn't someone once say that, "Sunshine is the best disinfectant?" They were tortured for sure, Mr. Tinlgles tried to pull himself together while they were just hammering Obama on his lies and failed policies.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

@01

I noticed that Condi Rice , like a real professor, can speak at length without need of notes, much less a teleprompter.

True pro indeed. Usually, a real politician can do that, but as long as our President has his teleprompter, he can go with the best of them, but speaking without it, alert, alert, alert!

2012 U.S. Presidential Election = Pick your poison

-4 ( +1 / -4 )

global watcher, do not see any change if Romney is President. At least he respects the rights of the unborn! As the current speaker on TV is saying this is a question or more government or more freedom.

-4 ( +1 / -6 )

@Paul

"Mr. Factoid" and uncaring Paul Ryan might not come off in a debate as well as you think.

Oh, he'll do just fine for sure.

As soon as Ryan is asked any questions about abortion or gay rights he's screwed, not to mention a bevy of other things. He'll make McCain's deer-in-headlights moment look like high-paced action by comparison.

Not too sure about that. Again, depends on the demographics, that's the typical liberal spin. For single women that might be a problem, but when it comes to married women, things change quite a bit. Nothing is wrong with being Pro-life and standing by your convictions and principles, as long as you respect women's rights. They should be ok.

@Laguna

That would be August 2008, when the banks were in full free-fall, AIG was melting down, the automobile companies were going bankrupt, and unemployment was rising fast.

8.3% unemployment

Delaying the Keystone pipeline

oh, and there is much, much more...

http://www.forbes.com/sites/prospernow/2012/08/21/obamas-failures-dont-improve-with-age/

I would say, an astounding absolutely NO WAY, as a matter of fact, I would say, much worse at this point and time.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

It amazes me when Mr. Romney talks about debt, with the clock and all. But then again, he does know a lot about debt. He took on a lot of it at Bain, pushed it off on the shoulders of others, and walked away with a bunch of money!

Who knows more about debt? And is still rising, who is President now?

**Dominoes

Sports Authority

AMC

Dunkin' Donuts

Warner Music Group

2002 Winter Olympics

Staples Center, Los Angles ** That's just a few, there are a lot more. Debt? What on Earth are you talking about? Most Americans are still waiting for Obama to come up with something other than talk, talk, talk.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

@global

Mr. Paul Ryan, I will be paying attention everything what you will say tonight that has been prepared for you by two speech writers. Hope your mom is there with a diaper bag on stage. Good luck, Mr. Fake.

All you do is name call. You must really enjoy it. You do know Obama also has a bunch of speech writers too. But that comment on his mom.... That is really low.

-6 ( +4 / -11 )

@Sushi

Trust me, you have no idea, there is still a lot of time until November and believe me, more and more people are realizing that the number one priority now for America is the economy, you can banter all you want, but all else will take a backseat to the economy, people that are stupid or ignorant or don't care about the economy.....hmmmm would put other issues first. The economy is the first and the last thing for Americans.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

@Sushi

So what is Obama's excuse?

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

@Farmboy

Of course, it has EVERYTHING to do with Obama, because he did such a p*** poor job and it's getting worse, so his job is on his line, so both Romney and Ryan should go into detail what Obama did and is doing as well as how they would do things differently.

-8 ( +4 / -13 )

Can't wait for the Biden/Ryan debate. Hope Biden is ready for the shellacking of his life. :-)
