Well she can go and stuff herself then!

Wow!

Wow, this is fascinating. However, this poor girl and all this media attention. Must be tough.

Ah, gotta love the media. Aussies must be proud this morning at the dogged determination of their national presses to get to the "truth," no matter what. I guess yellow tabloit journalism is the same anywhere you go, be it Japan the US or Australia.

tabloid, that is...

I feel sorry for her, but then again if she naturally has substances that her body produced that are considered banned in track and field then she shouldn't be allowed to compete. I don't know what the rules are, but I'm guessing a female running who injects testosterone into her system would be breaking the rules. You can't give someone a free pass on that just because their body produces an overload on that naturally.

Sorry for the typos, no coffee yet.

This has happened a few times before in the Olympics. Historically, after it was found out, the athlete was no longer allowed to compete.

Proof again of how stupid many man-made classifications such as gender and sex are.

I knew it!

I thought gender and sex were nature's classifications.

"Y" chromosome kicked in a little late in fetal development.....c'est la vie.

Competing in international sports is a serious business. Many would think that the presence of male organs in a female and consequently high testosterone levels give that person an unfair advantage. But where can this person then compete? Is there a need for a third category? I do feel sympathy for Caster and detest the media that are directly screwing up her life.

If this is true, if, then I hope they find the sick git who leaked the info and make them pay in whatever way hurts most.

This is like one of you guys here having the girl you love dump you and spread rumours that your pe*is is the size of a jellybean and covered with pustules of yellow ooze. Unforgivable in other words, and without showing the world her insides she can't prove or disprove it.

Officially, they're saying that they can't confirm or deny anything as they don't know anything themselves yet, but if it's true then she keeps her medal and her moment of glory. She won't be allowed to compete in women's races anymore though, and as they don't have mixed races where it counts her career will effectively be over. They said something like this is not her fault and they won't be holding her responsible or accusing her. They have more decency than some of the people on here.

I feel sorry for her. And I can't understand why some people are so hostile, but I suppose they're the same people who get all worked up about things being unnatural when someone who was previously classified as a man but happens to have female internal organs, becomes all woman and has a baby.

Nature isn't perfect. There may be 2 genders, but nature sometimes doesn't do the job properly and things get a bit confused. It is quite common, and the Western habit of chopping off anything that sticks out when a baby is found to be like this is actually so sick-minded it's criminal. (Especially as there's a high chance they're genetically male.)

Many may not know this, but if you look at her in the picture, she is flashing the symbol for the black male fraternity Omega Psi Phi. If you watch any NBA, you may catch Sahq doing the same thing.

Why mention this? Since it is a fraternity and for males only, I am going to go out on the limb and say that she probably knew of her condition and probably thought more of herself as a male than female (hence trying to flash the "Omega" sign with her victgory). My guess is she figured she would probably not be as competetive with the males, and since she is technically a female her chances would be better.

Just my guess.

@Alphaape: My guess is if is actually giving this sign it's just imitation and she has no idea of the meaning.

As I said about this lady, it probably is just my guess. But Omega Psi Phi is pretty well known, and yes she is probably imitating the move, but by and large, of all the imitators you see doing it, they are all men. So, if she sees men doing the sign, I would take a guess and say that she identifies more with the male psyche and image than the female.

I would imagine that if she has at least gone through some sort of sports physical before even competing, a trained doctor would have figured something may not be all "kosher." So much for South African medicine.

The Australian media shouldn't have reported this until Caster had been informed herself of the test results and given a chance to accept them, supposing she is intersex. I hope this doesn't destroy her.

This case and others before it make old ideas about sex seem ever more incomplete. So much for the "holy" books and their explanation of Yahweh/God/Allah creating males and females. Clearly the "holy" books missed something and there are some people who are somewhere in between.

I hope Caster and others like her can find their way.

Officially, they're saying that they can't confirm or deny anything as they don't know anything themselves yet, but if it's true then she keeps her medal and her moment of glory.

No. However cruel it may seem, she will be stripped of her medal.

Things that make you go hmmmm...The real question is did she know about this before or is she just finding out now. If she knew that she was intersex with large amounts of testosterone, then competing against women was kind of cheating. However, if she is just now aware of it, then I really feel sorry for her and I hope she doesn't have an identity crisis. Yes, it is too bad that we are not more accepting of people who don't fit into our neat little categories of male and female.

So if I understand posts above she's a hermaphrodite who flashes gang signals after her races.

wtf?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think her birth certificate identifies her legal gender.

Personally I don't care. The Olympics these days are a sham anyway so if pros can compete I see no reason why half n halfs can't.

I remember decades ago when the USSR had several atheletes who had an extra male chromezone (sp) and their racing days were over. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hmmm, If she is a natural hermaphrodite leaning more towards a male physique then by international competetive means she wouldn't be allowed to compete in the women's competition. As its been said it would be an unfair advantage to the other competitors in that class.

Very sad, but thems the breaks.

Legality has nothing to do with this. The IOC has already said Semenya keeps the medals (I'm not sure about the records though) because this is not a case of performance-enhancing or cheating knowingly but most likely won't be allowed to compete with women as historically, if true.

Still, if this is the case, I don't see Semenya being disallowed to compete with men where there won't be any advantage.

If she was taking drugs in order to boost her testosterone levels, then she that is illegal and she should be stripped of her medal. If it is a birth defect, then she shouldn't. After all, they don't strip medals of champions with birth defects, such as a hole in the heart, stunted growth, if they are too tall, and so on.
