I'm sure you mean martial (as in military) law. I'm wondering how different that would be compared to laws under the current regime? Quite a lot of people risk their lives every day crossing into China. Militaries around the world practice / train / plan for all sorts of scenarios, some imminent, others less so. This seems rather prudent & practical.

For sure, ultradork. The biggest challenge in the event of regime collapse would be the stampede of the population towards either border, China or SK. Delivery of aid unprecedented in history would be required to prevent this, and this delivery would likely be complicated by rear-guard reactionary violence.

Fortunately, NK citizens are quite used to deprivation, so even a slight increase in living stability and level might be sufficient to compel them to stay put in the short term. Unification, though, will be quite a challenge; disparities in living, educational and intellectual standards between the North and South are so great as to make West and East Germany look on par - and we know how difficult their reunion was.

The concept of "occupying" North Korea without considering China is ridiculous. Has everybody forgotten history? The last the Allies were winning against North Korea, they were suddenly facing the Red Chinese Armee... ooops

As long as China wants NK to exist, it will. And South Koreans and Americans will occupy it.

A military should be prepared for many contingencies. An unprepared military would be like Afghanistan and Iraq aftermath all over again.

And to think all North Korea has done is murder South Koreans over the past couple of years! And now the South is doing military exercises? Gosh, when will the war-mongering South ever stop!

These excercises are designed for "occupation and stabilization" in the event of a Regime collapse and chaos in North Korea. That's different from an excercise designed for the "Invasion and occupation" of North Korea. Many posters here seem to be confusing the two,

Let's not kid ourselves, if North Korea and China were to practice invading Seoul than the wording in this article would be different.

It would be called destabilizing and a provocation at best and most likely SK, Japan and America would demand some kind if UN statement denouncing it.

There is a double standard here. Anybody who can't see that has been successfully inculcated with the West = Good mantra by the media.

What can we do about individuals who take extreme points of view that they don't even believe in themselves all because of obsessions, for example the concept of hypocrisy? Are they such a minority that their views can be tossed aside? Or should we heap false praise on these individuals for their "exceptionalism" and hope that fills the hole?
