Fear of war is never helpful in preventing war

True or not, now the shoe is on the other foot, so to speak. See how they like it.

"North Korean soldiers appeared on a state TV program and bragged of participating in the artillery barrage on Yeonpyeong"

Wow, they're bragging about killing two civilians. What a nice bunch of guys.

I hope the world gets behind S Korea and they teach NK a lesson or two.

Yeah yeah yeah heard it all before, meaningless banging on about what ya gonna do means nothing, just stand up and do it then you can bang on about what ya did!!!!!

A united Korea would hurt China since then the won would lose value and Korea would be a source of cheap labor to compete with China. Long term it would hurt China and Japan since a united Korea would not be as easy to manipulate. A united Korea would hurt Korea in the short term since it would crash their economy for a decade.

You know, a lot of North Korean generals hope for war as well, but my guess is you think you're very different from them.

I just hope South Korea doesn't have to put their rhetoric to the test. No one needs war, regardless of how some may say different.

Koreas ,war means go down. Then you will have to rebuild from bottom, again.

War is obsolete, can be got rid off. South Korean has a income of almost 1000 billion USD and rising.

Just some billions, vehicles, machines and ships from south korea trillions, can bring peace to north korea.

If south korea can help India, rebuild its economy,I wonder why it can't do it, in north korea. There is almost 20 million people, involved in defence in

Koreas.

This energy can bring bigger wealth and prosperity,if focus changes to positive economic focus, like in south.

North Korea needs a lesson in holding it's tongue. Threatening a "nuclear war" takes things to a whole new level - one they're probably not ready to play on yet. While the north might have a crude nuke or two the US can deliver on target in 20 minutes or less (or the next one's free!) and reduce Kim-ville to wasteland before he can say boo!

Is anyone else amused by this kind of rhetoric? I mean, we've heard it for years from the north, now we're hearing it from the south. Shoe is on the other foot kind of thing. While I find it concerning, I also have to say I find it amusing. And NK has been awfully quiet with their southern neighbor essentially daring em to attack.

President Lee is doing the only rational thing he can in this situation. He is being tested by North Korea who are probing for weaknesses. However, all of this talk now will mean nothing if the North calls his bluff and the South Koreans refuse to respond in kind.

And for all of you peaceniks, it's easy to say that "war doesn't solve anything". However, if South Korea is invaded by the North, then war is the only option the South has. The people of the South wouldn't wan to live the way they do in the North.

It's very easy to say that to South Korea, who have patiently tried to work things out peacefully with the North giving them aid year after year, only to have South Koreans killed in return. What South Korea is stating is not "rhetoric" it's a country rightfully defending itself and trying to put an end to having it's people murdered. That no one needs war is something the North Koreans need to be told, not the South.

South Korea's military command was seen to be indecisive after both the Cheonan sinking and the Yeonpyeong killings. SK has brought in more hawkish top brass. Swift retaliation is needed so that NK begins seeing the repercussions of being aggressive.

SK should back off from the constant provocations. NK already behaves erratically enough even without any provocations. A war in Korea will not only carry the risk of further escalation beyond the Korean borders (apart from the US and China, think about Japan being drawn into the conflict...), but will also let the world economy nose-dive.

I don't care what you think I am like Smith. I am sick of North Korea getting a blank cheque when it comes to being belligerent. If any other country did this they'd be seriously reprimanded by the Useless Nations. It's time the Koreas fight it out if that is what they want. I'd like to see this fight settled once and for all so that we don't have to sit by in a constant state of being on edge to see if the psycho will go on a killing spree. It's time to call in the catchers to clear the streets of the rabid dogs. There is only so much normal people can take from a bully and South Korea seems it is disagreeing with you.

An excellent argument if you advocate that North Korea be allowed to continue to behave as it does and keep killing South Koreans. Drills in your own waters, even if disputed, that fire into the sea and injure one are hardly "provocations" and most certainly do not justify firing on and killing civilians.

Wonder any SK can tell me why Korea cannot be unified as done in Germany? All the NK wants is food. SK should not be drawn to war of words on rhetoric. Even SK can win hands down in the event of a war, how many people SK prepared to sacrifice?
