The difference between Korean and J-politicians is shown. It would be very hard for her to admit her father's wrongdoings in particular her father was the father of Korea industrialization. She is courageous!

The dictatorship of Park was not that all good. And her daughter is going to surrender the values they have achieved to the communists...

It's obvious people don't understand Kpolitics at all here in this forum. This women is the daughter of a dictator. She grew up as a general's daughter and then as a dictators daughter for 18yrs. This women has know real clue about the needs or concerns of masses. Even Her MOTHER was assissinated. She is a true politician 6terms and will do and say anything to gain power PERIOD. She cares only for that purpose with whatever secret agenda she has had for the past few decades.

Frankly Korea needs a real leader who don't just give lip service when they want something. She has claimed to do things if elected without any clear proposal for new policies on improving old ones. Honestly she thought the world of her Dictator Father and saw nothing wrong with torture, abuse, and executed people who simply wanted a constitutional government. I wonder if Hitler had a daughter how would she apologize before wanting to rule the nation.hmmm...

And crediting Chung-hee with the economic rise of Korea is over-rated. Even without Chung-hee the major conglomerates Samsung, Hyundai, etc were already growing quater over quater. He simply did a few things like nationalize the banks but what he did was not anything spectacular. It was really a no-brainer. This guy was not some economic genius. I would imagine most of korea's economic gains would have been realized during that period anyway. But the democratic and social losses were staggering. Korea is still suffering from alot of it. i.e. maintaing the highest suicide rate in the world.

"This women has know real clue about the needs or concerns of masses." Clearly Shiny Finger (?) has too "fue" clues, to judge what she will or wont do...

"...conglomerates ...were already growing quater over quater." Naturally. Quater under the bridge, eh?

According to the wiekipedia, most econmic growth and infrastructures were laid during 1960-1980, under his reins.

It will be more fair and accurate statement if Even without --> With.

If there were not communist's threat from the North, the growth of S. Korea economy could be higher.

Park Chung Hee had received help from Japan for laying down the foundation and infrastructures for industrialization of Korea as the wieki article mentions. Interestingly, Korean industrial output surpasses Japan's. Especially, in the field of IT, electronics, ship building, steel, construction. The growth of automobile sector (Huyndai) also phenomenal to be the #4 in the world, only after Toyota, GM, VW. If you ever remember the first Huyndai sold in the US in 1983, it was a junk crap.

But this economial miracle was achieved with a sacrifice of human rights during his reins. As the economy improves people wanted true democracy and freedom of speech, which triggered uprisings of common people leading the present democratic system of S. Korea.

Now, Park's daughter admits and apologized to the Korean people, although she has nothing to do with her father's past. She raised the moral and ethical standard of Korean politics.

Umm... if this was happening while he was in power, how can you determine how they would have done WITHOUT him in power? Samsung didn't start it's electronics division until 1969. As for Hyundai, WHICH Hyundai are you talking about? (from Wiki)

Hyundai underwent a major restructuring and break-up following the 1997 East Asian financial crisis and Chung's death, following which the rump Hyundai Group's business was reduced to container services, the manufacturing of elevators and tourism. Today most companies bearing the name Hyundai are not legally connected to Hyundai Group, including Hyundai Motor Group, Hyundai Department Store Group, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group and Hyundai Development Company.

(NOTE: I had to remove the word "s h i p p i n g" in the quote between "container" and "services" because JT thinks it is "potentially offensive content". LOL)

to give up freedom and civil rights in the name of progress and safety. That's why i prefer evolution over revolution. No revolution goes by without a river of blood to accompany it. Evolution might be slower, but way less painful

We can say that her father was an evil dictator etc..but people, if you have ever been to SOUTH KOREA, it is connected to NORTH KOREA, the NORTH sends spies, like ninjas at night to spy etc..on South Korea, even NOW, so it aint no safety Japan, and the Chinese have always been behind North Korea, so maybe South Korea NEEDED a dictator?? To control the country and make sure it was not infiltrated too much by North Koreans, Chinese or plain old South Koreans who actually believed the propaganda from Pyongyang???
