About time someone with balls stands up to the North. The South has been consumed by western political correctness. This war could have been finished long before this.

"“In case the enemy attacks our territory and people again, we will thoroughly retaliate to ensure that the enemy cannot provoke again,”

Looks to me like South Korea has finally had it. I suspect they're waiting for one more NKorean provocation to conduct a complete sweep of the border and to create further buffer zone clear of any NKorean military assets and push the North's defense line back. I also suspect they've already let China know that they aren't going to "invade" NKorea or attack Pyongyang, so that China won't permit NKorea to escalate it into full blown war. Don't see any other way to fullfill the above statement. Defang the rabid dog.

Thank you North Korea for helping the US to keep control of it's Asian "friends" and provide a market for the Patriot missile system. The Military Industrial Complex couldn't make as much money as they do without your help. Thanks for playing your part.

Oh I see you read that wikileak. The North is employed by the CIA to keep the MIC going. I couldn't believe myself that Obama called Kim Jong Il a really good ally in the war on freedom.

mikehuntez: "The South has been consumed by western political correctness."

Easy to say from someone who wouldn't suffer any immediate consequences -- like the annihilation of the capital city of your country. The artillery units pointing at Seoul have TRIPLED since SKorea announced they would continue the planned live-fire drills along the disputed border. It's not a video game or even a Fox News/CNN video game, mike -- if war starts, a LOT of people are going to die. And if that war spreads to include China deciding it's a good chance to try and take Taiwan or Okinawa, or something equally as stupid it could be potentially devastating for all.

I agree that the South has to do something if NKorea attacks again, but clearly this is ALL politics, and nothing but. The guy is taking this strong stance based solely on how much Lee is suffering for being less resolved. Would he really do it? A retaliatory attack by the South would be more to save face over failing to mount a decent artillery barrage in response to the first attack -- and again Lee has clearly suffered from that. North Korea likewise has already taken things to far and must save face, in which case they would likely attack again to make good on their promise.

Stop bringing in garbage like "Western political correctness" and other clearly anti-Obama trash. No one wants the war you seem to be salivating for from in front of your computer.

"Oh I see you read that wikileak. The North is employed by the CIA to keep the MIC going. I couldn't believe myself that Obama called Kim Jong Il a really good ally in the war on freedom."

Prime example. You take what's clearly sarcasm and bring it into an argument where even what you infer from it does not belong.

Anyway, the South really is in a position to do little else than retaliate if another attack comes (and I mean more than just firing random shells that don't come near the attackers), but hopefully it won't come to that. I think first and foremost they should heed China's advice and move the drills just a WEE bit away from the disputed area. It would mean that, once again, South Korea has to play the mature adult and lose a bit of face, but given that NKorea is playing the petulant child it might be the better idea.

SimonFox: Don't care. They employ people.

mikehuntez: Wait! Do you mean that Mrs. Palin and Obama are on the same page? North-Korea, the 58th state. Can't wait for this cable.

All SK has to do to not get attacked is to avoid doing military exercises in the disputed waters.

Seems they are intentionally trying to pick a fight.

Yup.

mikehuntez: "Simon has shown us that NK is in bed with the USA to control the USA's puppets in Asia."

Actually, no. YOU simply shows us that if the names USA, Obama, and North Korea appear in the same paragraph you (mikehuntez) interpret it from some alternative reality.

"If you watch 24 and read the subliminal messages clearly you will see that many of those conspiracies are based on reality."

Well, I already reckoned you get much of your 'reality' from FOX, but didn't know it was to the extent where you think 8 years of getting into 24 dilemmas that are always miraculously resolved at the last second is 'based on reality'. Interesting.

"So Smith stop acting as a proxy for this message."

Ummm... yeah... praying for peace and hoping that South Korea bows down somewhat in order to achieve it, while you praise a man and claim a war could have been brought about and finished 'long before this' somehow makes ME the messenger of fear. Again, interesting.

" but didn't know it was to the extent where you think 8 years of getting into 24 dilemmas..."

Should read "...24-HOUR dilemmas..."

sabiwabi: "All SK has to do to not get attacked is to avoid doing military exercises in the disputed waters."

If NK is bent on attacking SKorea and starting all-out war, this won't stop it; but it MIGHT help, as I said, given that this is the threat both sides and have made and they are just trying to save face. SKorea could not back down from the drills without appearing weak to the public and (worse) North Korea. Politics always trumps practicality. Hopefully the North will just resort to more sabre-rattling, and no action.

That said, even though it really would be SKorea taking the high road if they moved the drills, it's pretty hard to fault them if they get attacked by NK again for carrying out what they planned some time ago. The whole situation ultimately comes down to stupid governments, but clearly NK is the more childish here... and more dangerous.

From my sources, the tension between ROK and DPRK is a distraction. Basic military strategy.

NK would only attack SK in an act of existential desperation. The could never win, and they know it. Sure, they could inflict some devastating damage on Seoul, but their government would be annihilated and any surviving government members would be sent to the Hague - if they were lucky. They know this, and that is why a certain amount of pinpoint bombing by the South would probably not lead to all-out war. It is a policy entailing a certain amount of risk, of course, and yes, politics do play a role, but ramping up the military pressure to compliment the economic pressure might make some sense.

I would love to see it done as a surprise attack, but it must immediately wipe out all the artillery facing Seoul, like I mean in 15 seconds or so.

It would be funny if both South Korea and China decided to attack North Korea at the same time, can you just imagine the look on that fat pudgy little pig of a son and father team?

Sabre-rattling got SK into this mess and sabre-rattling will get SK out of this mess it seems.

Yonhap news agency reported Friday that North Korea has recently improved its ability to hit the capital: North Korea now has 5,200 rockets................................. while I understand you folks for the appreciation of " action " Korean drama in the " safety " of Japan ; just consider this fact, if ONLY ONE missle hits Seoul, it'll destroy not only a building but it would kill the world economy. This ticket of watching live action will cost us plenty.

"but it would kill the world economy"

Howw did you reach that conclussion Herr Oberst?

Am I the only one who always wonders who Apec Networks is and who his "sources" are?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I prefer someone who tells us he has sources but doesn't go into detail like he just read the entire wikileaks. Contrasted to the types that come here to tell us what is going on based purely on speculation and paranoia and then argue till blue in the face that what they said is gospel.

I hope NK has heard SK's warning and heed it. Or they'll get what they deserve.

The Hague! I would love to see that; however, China would never let it happen. As for the pinpoint bombing not leading to an “all-out war,” that’s easy to say when you are not living in Seoul. Take it from one who lives in Seoul, as soon as they finish their "pinpoint bombing," the residents of Seoul are going to hear incoming.

The problem with sending jets to bomb DPRK is you might lose the pilots if they get shot down. Then what happens? Torture? Threat of torture? New hostages.

DPRK sent rockets but no humans with them. Much drier way of attack. Over and out.

We've been listening to your exact same argument for years now smith, let NKorea do whatever they want, SKorea must lie there and take it as their people continue to get killed because we're all SO AFRAID OF WAR. I wonder how far your argument would go with SKorean Defense Minister Kim Kwan jin. Read the artoicle carefully, SKorea isn't talking about staring an all out war, they are talking about a limited engagement that would eliminate NKOrea's ability to kill SKoreans whenever they feel like it.

And if that war spreads to include China deciding it's a good chance to try and take Taiwan or Okinawa, or something equally as stupid it could >be potentially devastating for all.

That's not even a possibility unless China has decided to go to war with the United States.

It's about time U.S. and South Korea has changed the defense strategy plan and minimizing asking China for assistance in diplomatic channel to NK. South Korea has every reason for fears of esclation but unless there is a limited engagement for containment, it will get even worse and in the future if they cannot contain the progess of NK's nuclear and ICBM capabilities. There are risks but diplomatic channel never worked with NK.
