Threatening a pre-emptive strike, swiftly responding to missile tests, and telling "rude boy" leader Kim Jong Un to behave:

This is what you get when you elect the chaebol choice. Some bluster and red meat populism for the masses.

Some corporate tax cuts and deregulation for the big boys.

Unfortunate comparisons can be made to similar leaders guiding their nations to corporate dystopias like out of "Squid Game".

Lee Jae-myung was tainted by the former administration but was going to bring in progressive policies and a UBI. But nothing beats corporate backing.

This always happens with SK every few years when they get a new leader and this one wants to challenge the impoverished sibling side with nukes that they will show them? How? Whatever SK will do to NK will directly involve us as a result. Koreans in general can be quite emotional and in this moment in time, you really need to keep it in check because the ramifications can be costly for everyone.

Finally one with balls. The last one was literally kissing NK boots everyday. The boots are literally so polish now that they like to show it off by ramping up their missiles demonstrations.

Doesn't sound like this guy is very good at being a leader of a nation. Threatening to go into war is not the best way to start his politician's career.

Korea has enjoyed relative peace for close to 70 years, and granted, there have been incidents that could have triggered a war, but cool heads persevered, and now this trumpian faux macho clown wants to aggravate the other trumpian faux macho clown? When you have a policy of logic on one side it can counter the idiot tendancies of the other, but when you have two idiot policies it can only lead to disaster.

I think I understand that Korean nationalists want to see their people united, many have relatives on both sides of the DMZ. But I wonder whether a people as brainwashed as those who've lived in the North for so many years can ever leave their idol worshipping system and adapt to a freer existence. East Germans seem to have adjusted since the Wall came down. But I look at the US where many US Southerners still resent the reality their side lost over 100 years ago, yet still try to undermine the country. Look at Texas Alabama and Florida for examples of states that continually reject the country and its underlying principles.

Unification is a wonderful ideal, but perhaps not always practical.

NK testing with bigger missiles.

India accidentally fires a missile at Pakistan.

China eyeballing Taiwan.

Iran getting closer to nuke Israel.

Russia invading Ukraine, and possibly Poland next (reason why US didn't take their planes).

US and world sanctions against Russia (Putin considers a hostile non-militant act against Russia)

Things aren't looking good lately...

Newly elected president is naturally in a high euphoric state, saying things that he may rescind later.

He has to settle himself and calm down first before making any more such rash remark..

The closer political discourse gets to MMA trash-talk, the more I feel we are doomed.

With a margin of 48.56% of the vote to Lee's 47.83% I hope this fellow doesn't make the mistake of claiming any kind of mandate and go hog wild. I see no mention of legislative elections concurrent with the Presidential election so Mr. Yoon will be constrained by a legislature with a large opposition majority.

South Korea and Japan should be strong allies. This guy sounds like he wants to make it so. A huge improvement over the last guy.

Nationalist populist politicians, arms and oil lobbies and for-profit pharmaceutical companies are doing nature's work by choosing those more worthy (i.e., those in "developed" countries) to survive. Hm.

I mean, poking a nuclear power like North Korea can possibly lead to a situation in which all of us will ruthlessly have to fight for survival on a day-to-day basis, but I don't think we are (or have to be) there yet.

South Korean lurches from one extreme the another, on every change of leadership.

The eye water tone and language, "sternly deal with the North's illegal and irrational acts," 

President Moon Jae-in attempts at appeasement to be replaced by "First Strike" Yoon Suk-yeol.

"If you give me a chance, I will teach him some manners, to, snap out of it, rude boy"

Can you seriously believe this is going to end well?

After such a rant, as soon as Yoon Suk-yeol puts a toe on NK soil, Kim Jong Un will have his trusty flame thrower on full BBQ.

Heaven knows what Yoon could be planning for the government of Japan.

It’s very dangerous, of course, like everything in life can be when you get up in the morning and leave your bed. lol

But it’s not unrealistic, if it is done in a big conventional but concerted and time synchronized approach and with good intelligence and preparations. In addition, I would guess that Kim isn’t even allowed to use nuclear arms under any circumstances, because big brother China of course values own people and regime survival much more than that of Pyongyang’s. He would otherwise have a much lower amount of soldiers and conventional weapons and would in fact only need a launch button panel on his desk if he really had that allowance.

The extreme right must love it, another 'strong' male, ala Putin and Duterte. But the global right define words like 'strong' differently from how I would. I do not think loud boasts and name calling or having your security forces killing unarmed people without a trial or having your military bomb civilian housing or having your military killing innocent women and children is a sign of 'strength'.

To me President Zelensky is showing he is a strong man, as are the Ukrainian men risking their lives to protect their families and nation.

A leader who boasts of having judo expertise and bares his chest in front of his followers yet hides in one of his well-fortified buildings and tolerates his military slaughtering innocents is a coward. Especially after he's used gangster tactics to embezzle huge sums of his fellow citizen's (in his mind serfs) money for himself and his equally cowardly oligarchs and any others who back him.

Sign of a poor leader, with little real ability.

Making blustery statements, instead of, just using the energy to do his job. Especially in his first days.

Eg, like the one across the ocean, "Not in my watch"

What does even that actually mean?

Ultimately, he'll be the same as every other previous president of SK. Criticize Japan for 'not apologizing' and 'not compensating' for past atrocities. And then eventually go down in flames from corruption. So predictable.

In Korea, like elsewhere, the corporatocracy will give the people cheap entertainment and drama to distract them from the wealth transfer happening.

Low testosterone males should not be in charge of any big organization, be it a major company or a country.

Hm, things are going brilliantly right now with such decisive alpha males like Putin, Johnson and Bolsonaro, aren't they?

You are paid what you are worth.

You are paid as little as your employer can get away with. Which is why we can buy cheap clothes made by sweatshop workers who can hardly afford a living because of poor labour legislation in their country of residence (or the disregard for those laws in their countries). The ones making money off these clothes are shareholders and other fat cats whose only contribution is having enough capital to start with, no real skills without which the products couldn't be produced.

Politicians and CEOs are very easily replaceable (and dispensable). There are countries such as Belgium that operated for over a year without a government. The same goes for CEOs or investment bankers.

But try to go a week with all supermarkets closed or a month without dustmen. I myself have had completely pointless office jobs that were paid better than those.

But yeah, Yoong looks like a prime example of a neoliberal candidate who wants to do away with minimum wage, so I guess that's one of the reasons you are such an adamant supporter. Each to their own.

The issue is that we don't have an alpha male leader like we did back when Trump was in charge. Of course those alpha males are going to take advantage of us when we have weak leaders

You regard Trump as an alpha male but he got thrashed in the election.

A loser. The electorate threw him out after one term. Not up to the required standard.

The types posturing as alpha males who turned into pathetic gibbering wrecks after he got hammered were also losers.

I think success is a better metric to judge politicians than chest-thumping.

Yoon Suk Yeol won the South Korean presidential election by very narrow margin but it didn't cause any rioting as we saw early last year (1/3/2021) in the U.S.  Probably, South Koreans are more mature and civilized than U.S. citizens. 

I think Japan should emulate South Korea when choosing its national leader. Currently, Japan's prime minister is elected only by a fraction of the people that are members of a majority political party.

The issue is that we don't have an alpha male leader like we did back when Trump was in charge.

Somebody, heck a lot of people, can't discern the difference between a leader and a double talking sales puke. But then a lot of people uncritically believe the crap sales pukes tell them every day and buy stuff they don't need at grossly inflated prices, because some sales puke was smooth enough to convince the rubes they really really need what the person is selling. Donald Trump was no leader. To be a great leader one must first learn to follow, a lesson every good military leader knows, and have a sense of humility.

People here are saying that good leaders should stay calm and cower at the intimidations of alpha leaders. I know people on crack who make more sense than all of you.

being a loud mouthed, chest thumping buffoon can be a good thing. Why do you think North Korea has survived so long? Because their leaders are loud and say extreme things.

not everything is about being rational or being smart when it comes to leading. Sometimes, acting like a buffoon is needed.
