But it is not legal and openly practiced. There are such rumors among some Asian groups in the US too, but it is illegal to kill and eat dogs or cats in the US. In South Korea it remains legal.

Dogs are called man's best friend for a reason. For thousands of years man and dog depended on each other, keeping each other safe and fed.
I object to the way those poor animals are crammed into cages, I object to the barbaric way they are killed!

To me it is like eating children. We share our homes and lives with these wonderful creatures who return our love ten times over, listen to our concerns and are always there for us. If any creature has a soul it is a dog. They love us without reservation, never seem to see our faults, could car less how old or ugly we are. But yet some are callous enough to kill and eat these wonderful creatures. I hope the South Koreans do ban this practice. China too. It is long past time.

Japan may not not necessarily exempt from this controversy. There is one local nearby that neighbors murmur, raises ‘one puppy’ separately from the litter sold as “pets”. Some also claim during the ‘war years’, household dogs of many different breeds, were often ‘recruited’ by the military ‘selection’ patrols, as working dogs, ‘companions’ and “to keep Japanese soldiers warm in the winter”. From those same years, some elderly Japanese may have developed certain ‘tastes’ hence that rumored breeder’s continued selective pasturage.
