"Her foreign policy gaffe Wednesday kept the question alive. She declared on Glenn Beck’s syndicated radio show that the United States has to stand with “our North Korean allies” in connection with tensions on the Korean Peninsula."

...

"The conservative U.S. website The Weekly Standard came to Palin’s defense, pointing out that “she correctly identified North Korea as our enemy literally eight seconds before the mix-up.”

Laugh as the liberal mainstream media tries desperately to make this into a big deal. It's like it is all Palin all the time now. "The conservative US website The Weekly Standard..." LOL. It is also a newspaper, and one of considerable influence. But of course, when Obama said "McCain has not discussed my Muslim faith" it is brushed over as what Palin's mistake in the exchange above actually was, a harmless slip of the tongue. The diff:Palin was talking about a distant country - one of 195 on the planet - that shares the word Korea with our ally on the southern half of that penisula; Obama was discussing religious experience, which is personal experience, not something most sane or truthful people of one denomination confuse for another...

The top brass od the GOP is running a systematic campaign to destroy her chances of winning a primary.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A load of cash and a bully pulpit on one hand, and a real job on the other. That's basically her choice.

Rush L. rakes in $58 million a year while Glenn B. makes over $22 million. Sarah Palin has the skill set to attain and maintain that level, such is her fan base. Why give up such a rewarding position where you get to vocalize other people's anger, never really be held accountable for it, and never have to work toward real solutions for real problems. Indeed, why go for a job that requires patience, resolve, compromise, and statesmanship, not too mention knowing when not to speak? Methinks these are out of her skill set at the moment. (And sometimes Obama's, too...)

Common sense aside, I think she'll actually go for the world's ultimate popularity contest. Too irresistable for a lifelong attention-seeker like her. The hard landing ain't gonna be pretty, though.

Every time I see this woman I think of "I Dream of Jeannie". "No master, I am not going back in the bottle". "Oh my God Tony, how are we going to explain this to Commander Bellows?" She even has the same look on her face.

To give her credit, if this is all just a money making stunt she is great at it. If it is serious politics you might as well just put your hands up and surrender right now. Just admit the presidency of the USA is a position for a ceremonial figurehead taking orders from the plutocracy. Turn out the lights, the party is over.

Just admit the presidency of the USA is a position for a ceremonial figurehead taking orders from the plutocracy.

Again, gotta ask: who, exactly, makes up the "plutocracy" ?

she has to run shes the only one who can save the country

I am pleased that such a vacuous, unethical person has so much support among the Republicans that many actually would consider her fit for a leadership position.

"Laugh as the liberal mainstream media tries desperately to make this into a big deal."

Well, really, what is her excuse? It is a mistake you have never made in your life, right Tim? So why does she get a pass? Is she hard on the campaign trail? Was she prepped wrong? There are people in the world who just constantly say dopey things, like Dan Quayle, Paris Hilton, and Jessica Simpson.

Then there are others, like you and me, who can have a decent conversation without saying really really dumb things all the time.

Um. I vote PRETENDER. Mike Huckabee talks about the issues, Sarah cuddles up to North Korea.

GJ: Tell you what. Barbara Eden (Jeannie) and Elizabeth Montgomery (Bewitched) were smart cookies. Either is a mental giant compared to Sarah.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There are people in the world who just constantly say dopey things, like Dan Quayle, Paris Hilton, and Jessica Simpson.

I don't really follow Simpson of Hilton, or wonder where entertainers stand on political issues.

Obama has made similar gaffes(Do you speak Austrian?) . But his handlers placed Joe Biden on the ticket so Obama would look clever by comparison.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Since half the Democrat Party wants Obama to stand down for 2012 I am not really too concerned with Palin yet. That Babs Bush does not like her I find interesting.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think the woman is an idiot who has greatly benefited from listening to very smart advisors / handlers. I just can't believe the US public is stupid enough to elect her President. Although, I did admire how she put Barbara Bush in her place.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

America politics has a long tradition of radicals hijacking their party (look at William Jennings Bryan or Barry Goldwater) and galloping off with the nomination. If Palin plays her cards shrewdly she might even win the nomination. A lot of pundits are predicting a third-party challenge in 2012, and if that drains away enough independents and Democrats, Palin could very well wind up in the White House. No matter who runs in 2012, the US clearly needs to abolish its antiquated electoral vote system and elect its presidents directly.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins recently told the Kennebec Journal in Maine: “I think she likes being a celebrity commentator for Fox, and a speaker.... It’s a lot easier to charge people up than to actually govern.”

Well said. But such is 21st century America, when so much power, real or imaginary, has shifted to the fifth estate. Screaming for change from the outside. And not change for change's sake: Screaming for screaming's sake.

Barbara Bush—wife of Republican former President George H Bush and mother of former President George W Bush—said Palin seems happy in Alaska and “I hope she’ll stay there.”

Love this snippety snippet. A Republican matriarch takes aim at the golden girl of the hijacking upstarts. Feel the love.

American politics is my new entertainment.

Obama has made similar gaffes(Do you speak Austrian?)

Actually, Austrian German (as well as Swiss German) can be quite a bit different from the German spoken in most regions of Germany. Many expressions are as different as Kansai-ben is from Tokyo-ben. So attacking President Obama on that score only exposes ignorance.

Since half the Democrat Party wants Obama to stand down for 2012

LOL!! Talk about making things up.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

even as she vowed not to speak again with CBS News anchor Katie Couric, whose 2008 interview left Palin seemingly unable or unwilling to name a newspaper or magazine she reads regularly.

The speaks terribly of Palin. She recently went on a rambling rant on Sean Hannity's show where she blathered the following: "I want to help clean up the state that is so sorry today of journalism. And I have a communications degree. I studied journalism, who, what, where, when, and why of reporting. I will speak to reporters who still understand that cornerstone of our democracy, that expectation that the public has for truth to be reported. And then we get to decide our own opinion based on the facts reported to us. So a journalist, a reporter who is so biased and will, no doubt, spin and gin up whatever it is that I have to say to create controversy, I swear to you, I will not my waste my time with her. Or him."

Mind you, the question that Couric asked her, the question that Palin thinks was so biased was: "What do you read?"

Presidential material? Only to those with exceptionally low standards.

Mrs. Palin is unelectable. This is a lightning rod for all the wrong reasons, just like Mrs. Clinton is unelectable.

Being popular with the press doesn't mean the electorate will actually vote for someone. The press wants bigger-than-life personalities with strong stances.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Just like Sarah Palin i also believe NK is allied with the US. They have gotten more second chances than any other country + we gave them nuclear support. NK is a great destabilizer in the region and that helps the Globalists with their "terrorist" agenda.

She need only look at the Nevada race. Her primary/ DEMOCRATIC challengers only need to look at ANGLE/ REID midterm race.

America, by the time the Obama disaster winds down, will revert to the traditional pattern of electing to the office of president a governor with a proven track record or a well-experienced senator.Obama was a one-off, a fluke.

But I do enjoy watching how Palin absolutely terrifies and enrages the cultural Left. I think it is her happiness that they most detest.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'd be more worried about America politicians who don't know their own country. I am sure most of us have mistaken North ===== for South ===== at one time or another. But Obama, with his

“Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go.”

is still the most gaffe-tastic pol out there.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I will vote for Nader again.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not sure which one is more of an idiot, but W. Bush didn't completely destroy the country, so she probably won't either.. I would love to see Sarah Palin run on the Republican side for the laughs that she would generate, if not for the fact that (if elected), Canada's economy is inextricably linked with with the USA and her invariably dumb decisions and partisan appointments would negatively impact on my country.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarah is most definitely qualified to be on reality TV. I enjoy her gaffes. But not if she ever becomes President Palin. I think the USA would end up isolated if she ever became President. Maybe that's the US's way of getting the troops out of foreign countries. Elect her.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Canada's economy is inextricably linked with with the USA and her invariably dumb decisions and partisan appointments would negatively impact on my country.

What 'invariably' dumb decisions are we talking about - specifically?

Canada has only benefited from free trade with the US. Palin is pro-free trade. I do think she might be playing a little coy on the issue of legalizing marijuana - I think she might be in favor of it. That, of course, would hurt BC and its shadow economy.

Have Obama's thoroughly partisan, anti-capitalist appointments benefited your economy?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Again, gotta ask: who, exactly, makes up the "plutocracy" ?

You can live in denial all you want, but it won't go away. In the Savings and Loan crisis 20 years ago, back when America was still a democracy, over 1100 senior level bankers were sent to jail for criminal fraud. Now that the US economy has been flushed down the toilet due to much, much greater levels of financial fraud, the number of such fraudsters who have been sent to jail is ZERO, and the only prison time is being down by a few low level Ponzi operators. Meanwhile, the corporate/banking controlled media ignores all that and focuses on non-entities such as Palin and her family, imaginary "roads to recovery" and "green shoots", and lots of other meaningless, unimportant junk. There is only one explanation for all that. They learned from what happened 20 years ago, and staged a coup. Quietly.

I think Murdoch's reason for backing Palin is pretty clear. Her job is to suck the oxygen out of the room, so that anybody who actually might have the cojones to take on the plutocracy can't get any traction. No Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, Eisenhower, or Kennedy types who might have dangerous, reality based ideas. And if she actually did become president, that would just mean that they don't consider her a threat and that the real power was elsewhere anyways.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You can live in denial all you want, but it won't go away

If I knew who the "plutocracy" was made up of I would be "in denial."

I don't know.

Give us a few names.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If I knew who the "plutocracy" was made up of I would be "in denial."

Tim, I think they must be the Illuminati or maybe The Masons. But the conspiracy smellers can't say for sure.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah it is a real tin-hat conspiracy theory. A Google search of "American Plutocracy" only brings up 185,000 hits. But if you need names how about starting with Lloyd Blankfein, Jamie Dimon, Timothy Geitner, Ben Bernanke, William Dudley, Rupert Murdoch, the Koch Brothers, Warren Buffett, Charlie "suck it up" Munger, Lawrence Summers and on and on.

So what does any of this have to do with Sarah Palin? The economic problems of today in the USA and elsewhere go back to the 1970's, when the response to the damage of the oil price shock was to bring in a neo-liberal financialization of the economy to create the illusion of prosperity through public and private debt. That is what it is all about, nothing else is of any importance. Why do you think Reagan and Bush1 quadrupuled the US debt in 12 years? You think they wanted to end up like Carter? And it worked well for about 25 years, until it stopped. The problem now is the people who got "rich" by putting the country into debt were able to use that money to gain control of government so they can try to keep the party rolling. There is no other explanation for why the American government took completely opposite actions in banking collapses 20 years apart.

As Sarah Palin understands none of that, then she is not a serious presidential candidate. You can't fix the problem if you are in denial about the cause of the problem, and pretend the problem is caused by other irrelevant stuff. And of course most people are in denial, it is hard to admit you have been lied to for 30 years.

Actually none of them are serious presidential candidates. And that is not an accident.

lol!!! :-)

I'm all for female candidates, but this one sets off the alarm bells everywhere.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

From blog JewsForSarah dot com

Although (Vice Prez) Biden thinks Obama can defeat Palin, he is not willing to accept the notion that she may not pull through. Is this another gaffe or a rare dose of truth by Biden?

“I don’t think she could beat President Obama. But, you know, she’s always underestimated.”

“[She's a] “real force in the Republican Party.”

Sure Biden laughed off the notion of Palin defeating Obama. However, in another interview.... with Larry King, Biden reiterated that Palin is not to be taken lightly:

“Were I a Republican senator or a Republican political leader, I would look and say, ‘Wait, she’s got a good chance of getting the nomination.’"

I'm all for female candidates, but this one sets off the alarm bells everywhere.

Well then, you'll just have to stay home on Election Day 2012.

How the right wing bible bashing Americans love sweet Sarah while the rest of us laugh from the sidelines at it all.

Oh, I think Sarah Palin and her supporters are having a good laugh as well.

Here is her official Thanksgiving Greeting via her Facebook page. (She is, after all, still a private citizen.Never seen the media go after one quite the way they do with her.)

"A Thanksgiving Message to All 57 States 2010年11月25日 17:46 Sarah Palin

"My fellow Americans in all 57 states, the time has changed for come. With our country founded more than 20 centuries ago, we have much to celebrate – from the FBI’s 100 days to the reforms that bring greater inefficiencies to our health care system. We know that countries like Europe are willing to stand with us in our fight to halt the rise of privacy, and Israel is a strong friend of Israel’s. And let’s face it, everybody knows that it makes no sense that you send a kid to the emergency room for a treatable illness like asthma and they end up taking up a hospital bed. It costs, when, if you, they just gave, you gave them treatment early, and they got some treatment, and ah, a breathalyzer, or an inhalator. I mean, not a breathalyzer, ah, I don’t know what the term is in Austrian for that…"

Those who know, know what she is trying to say here. The laugh is on Obama and his lapdogs in the lib media.

TimRussert; the sad thing is that you and your fellow extremists who support this ignorant woman, would support anyone on the "right" side. Whatever she says and does is blessed, like an angel from the Lord. I am not a liberal or a Conservative, but i can see a very dangerous woman who could cause even more damage to the world than any previous leader.

Hopefully America can see sense, but so many are fuelled by Fox News style extremism that i doubt it.

Not God Bless The USA, but have mercy on the USA if this nutcase becomes President.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

TimRussert,

I believe you've left out the most important part of her Facebook post:

The part after the original paragraph.

“Of course, the paragraph above is based on a series of misstatements and verbal gaffes made by Barack Obama (I didn’t have enough time to do one for Joe Biden). YouTube links are provided just in case you doubt the accuracy of these all too human slips-of-the-tongue. If you can’t remember hearing about them, that’s because for the most part the media didn’t consider them newsworthy. I have no complaint about that. Everybody makes the occasional verbal gaffe – even news anchors… “If the media had bothered to actually listen to all of my remarks on Glenn Beck’s radio show, they would have noticed that I refer to South Korea as our ally throughout, that I corrected myself seconds after my slip-of-the-tongue, and that I made it abundantly clear that pressure should be put on China to restrict energy exports to the North Korean regime. The media could even have done due diligence and checked my previous statements on the subject, which have always been consistent, and in fact even ahead of the curve. But why let the facts get in the way of a good story? (And for that matter, why not just make up stories out of thin air – like the totally false hard news story which has run for three days now reporting that I lobbied the producers of “Dancing with the Stars” to cast a former Senate candidate on their show. That lie is further clear proof that the media completely makes things up without doing even rudimentary fact-checking.)”

Man ain't that the truth.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Steve - if you check my posts here you will see I am also not a Repub or a Democrat. I score Libertarian on every test I take, and Libertarian writers and thinkers are the ones I like best. I am encouraged by Palin's support of Rand Paul, whom the lib pundits also said had no chance at winning office.

Hopefully America can see sense, but so many are fuelled by Fox News style extremism that i doubt it.

America is home to 310 million people. Do you realize how silly your caricatures look?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'd say 'serious comedian' would be better than contender, but we laugh AT her, not because of any sort of 'jokes'.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

TimRussert; I do mention "so many" not all, as i do not believe that so many would like this lady. I think we can say that Mrs Plain has extremist views especially regarding God and the Bible.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Thanks, sailwind. I don't think she will run. Ironically though, it is the Lib media who have made it all the more possible for her to do so - - they have already tried every angle possible to slime her and her family. None of it stuck. She now faces far less resistance than they realize or want - there are no last minute "newsflashes" (like Dumbya's drunk driving arrest in the 80s ) to trot out...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sailwind: " That lie is further clear proof that the media completely makes things up without doing even rudimentary fact-checking"

You've got to be kidding.... this quotation from a guy who supports a dolt who doesn't even speak English but MAKES UP her own words? How about DICTIONARY checking?? hahaha.

It still cracks me up that a lot of you guys and Americans think this woman is presidential material when she could not even finish a single term as governor without running away from the job, and then still solely blaming everyone else instead of taking responsibility. Not to mention her abuses of power while she was governor.

Did she walk off the job or not? Why would she not do it as president?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm really hoping she runs.

American politics has become a screaming reality show anyway.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Thanks, sailwind. I don't think she will run. Agreed, The media actually vetted her like she was number one on the ticket and not like someone else who was actually......on the top of the ticket. To bad they didn't do the same job on the current occupant in the Whitehouse, if they would have his lack of real qualifications for the job would have been apparent and his performance based on those meager qualificATIONS so far bears that out.

Smithinjapan, 'rudimentary fact checking' tells me that someone who uses the insulting term 'dolt' to describe an extremely successful conservative American woman who just happens to not fit into your political belief system really doesn't have much real input to the debate.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That lie is further clear proof that the media completely makes things up without doing even rudimentary fact-checking.

Yes, like how Fox and the right-wingers went overboard on the cost of President Obama's trip to India -- with 30+ navy ship and over $200 million per day? That kind of making things up?

On the other hand, we've got Palin getting all upset over an interviewer asking what she's been reading.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

they have already tried every angle possible to slime her and her family. None of it stuck.

LOL! Well, if none of it stuck it must be because right-wingers -- which includes the so-called "libertarian" defenders of the Republican Party -- must be wearing it.

Experiencing Sarah Palin as president would be far worse than experiencing Bristol Palin's dancing. Talk about cringe-worthy. Oh, that's right, it was the liberal media that forced her to take part on that show.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The media actually vetted her like she was number one on the ticket and not like someone else who was actually......on the top of the ticket.

True dat. Thanks to the liberal media hate machine controlled by Lord Soros, Americans knew more about Gov. Palin's past and her family within 48 hours after she showed up on our political radar than it still does about Obama today.

I'll take hipocracy for $1,000, Alex.

sailwind: "Smithinjapan, 'rudimentary fact checking' tells me that someone who uses the insulting term 'dolt' to describe an extremely successful conservative American woman who just happens to not fit into your political belief system really doesn't have much real input to the debate."

That proves only the more that I am correct, for I use it not to describe her success, but her lack of intellect (which you fail to touch upon, I notice). Consequently you prove that you yourself need to look into things a little more, namely what constitutes a 'dolt' (see if 'success' is somewhere in the definition, my friend). I happen to think Paris Hilton is also a dolt... so are you going to suggest I haven't checked my facts? :)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

TimRussert: "Ironically though, it is the Lib media who have made it all the more possible for her to do so"

Who wouldn't want a guaranteed victory? The more likely she is to run, the less the Democrats have to do -- just let the woman speak... errr... sorry, TRY to speak, for herself and once that gob opens up it's game over (for both the English language and the Republicans).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Long after the USA has ceased to exist, future historians will write its history, and the last chapter will be called "Sarah Palin Becomes President".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Did she walk off the job or not? Why would she not do it as president?"

My earlier question is about as in-the-face as you can get it when it comes to making palin-worshippers shake in rage. They absolutely cannot deny she left her post; they deflect, try to find some reason to blame Obama and/or the Democrats, and try to ignore the obvious fact that the woman is incompetent, unintelligent, abusive, and simply cannot fulfill her obligations. It's been set in stone, and that makes them absolutely furious.

'Pretender' is not the correct term for this woman; she does not pretend to be a dolt at all (and for the sailwinds out there, that refers to lack of intelligence), she IS one. In that there is no contention. Running for president? she may as well be a woman trying to pee against a hurricane.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The woman is a joke. Anyone thinking her candidature will do anything other than provide chronic amusement for those of us not foaming at the extreme-right mouth is smoking methamphetamines.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Here's what Palin said "eight seconds before the mix-up" - “We're not having a lot of faith that the White House is going to come out with a strong enough policy to sanction what it is that North Korea is going to do,”

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Pass the pipe:

The woman is a joke. Anyone thinking her candidature will do anything other than provide chronic amusement for those of us not foaming at the extreme-right mouth is smoking methamphetamines.

While the Republican gains in the House and Senate are grabbing the most headlines, the most significant results on Tuesday came in state legislatures where Republicans wiped the floor with Democrats.

Republicans picked up 680 seats in state legislatures, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures -- the most in the modern era. To put that number in perspective: In the 1994 GOP wave, Republicans picked up 472 seats. The previous record was in the post-Watergate election of 1974, when Democrats picked up 628 seats.

Yup...She is a a real joke.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"“We're not having a lot of faith that the White House is going to come out with a strong enough policy to sanction what it is that North Korea is going to do"

Just when you thought George Dubya was the most retarded US statesman....

And the cranks on the far-right wonder why this woman freaks the shinola out of most rational humans.....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Yup...She is a a real joke."

Wow sailwind, I didn't realize the 2010 midterms were a vote for sarah palin.

Heh - when 2012 rolls around (if not well before) I'm going to enjoy the results of the 10 minute American attention-span when the repubs have failed to fix the tanking economy and simply screeching "NO" at everything the opposition has to offer isn't cutting it no more....

And the subsequent back-stabbing, recriminations and inevitable shrieking. It's going to be pitiful to watch.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You know sailwind, Adolf Hitler only came to power because people were so pissed off with their lot. I think support for an individual such as sarah palin can be classified up there as "scary as hell".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You've lost credibility when the best you can do is infer a similarity between Hitler and Palin.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The similarity was not between the chracters of palin and hitler. It was the political and economic climate.

Moderator: Stay on topic please. Hitler is not relevant to this discussion.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I like what Matt Damon said when she was running for the vice president last time..he likened the possible story of some folksy hockey mom like Palin getting to the white house as like the script to a bad Disney film. Also someone of below average intelligence like her being given the nuclear codes is a pretty scary prospect.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Also someone of below average intelligence like her being given the nuclear codes is a pretty scary prospect.

And it's good to keep in mind that the scary prospect will be wrought on the United States by millions of people who are either delusional or outright crazy enough to believe that Sarah Palin is presidential material.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Palin's new book: "The Empress' New Clothes." She has been told so many times that she is important that she believes it. Democrats are organizing now to support her primary election bid so that she will run against Obama. But, her nomination really isn't going to happen. The Republicans are not that foolish. The ticket will be Romney and Christie or Christie and Romney. She will just be another keynote speaker whose words will soon be forgotten.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I genuinely hope sarah palin runs for president in 2012. Nothing would please me more.

Taka

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm so bitter that mccain got trounced it's still clouding my limited vision. All I know is that critisizing obama for having no experience helps my karma.

let's not forget Sarah's journalism qualification neh sail?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

All this panic for a hockey mom? Come now. There is no way she'll ever become President. Some of you are really getting hot under the collar over noting. But it's funny to watch you guys all get so antsy with some taking you for a ride with the Palin Panic.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Panic?

Heh, buddy some of us are actively hoping for the lady to run.

Humour being the obvious factor.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

'Verts,

Why bother? Let them have their false idol. It'll all come crumbling down in 2012 when she splits the vote and is suddenly faced with the realization that she and her Facebook account put Pres. Obama back in the White House for 4 more years.

Let 'em go. You can't win a fight with a zealot anyway. All you do is get dragged down into it.

Taka

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I agree Madverts. I'd be peeing myself laughing. But the scary thing is if she gets that far she just might get to President too. Remember they elected Bush2. So anything is possible. We wouldn't want to be stuck with that for 4 years or until someone bumped her off. But yes it would provide comedy just like Bush 2 did.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't think Palin will run - but will let the speculation run rampant because it keeps her in the news and keeps her speaking fees high. However, President Obama was elected and he thinks that America has 57 states. Or should we give him (and Palin) the benefit of the doubt that they misspoke a time or two while making hundreds and hundreds of speeches or should we just say they are both dumb as a bag of hammers?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama is good at not looking like a fool however. That is how he got in power. Most candidates these days look like the biggest idiots but he had the skill to pull the wool over the eyes. Like everyone said. "He's a good speaker.". Palin would never get those words of praise.

let's not forget Sarah's journalism qualification neh sail?

Agreed let's not.

She received her bachelor's degree in communications with an emphasis in journalism in 1987 from the University of Idaho.

We all know that going to college, studying and passing your courses in your major and getting a bachelor's degree only happens if you are an unintelligent air-headed dolt.

Sarah Palin says the US needs to stand with our Northern Ireland allies, opps, North Korean, opps, South Korean, allies. She is an idiot!

Tis unfortunate to discover that you look down on people with Bachelor Degrees in Communications awarded from less prestigious Universities such as the University of Idaho rather than Harvard or Princeton or Yale Though Universities such as Idaho is on the same level as almost all other State supported colleges America and institutions such as Idaho are were the vast majority of Americans go to earn their degrees in a persons chosen field of study.

I would say her 'second rate' degree as you called it is based on your perception that she went through the 'common folk' route to earn it, instead of being a member of the 'elite class' who feels the average riff raff has no business in politics or heaven forbid actually being elected to any office. Again unfortunate that you fell that way about Americans who went to college to a less than 'stellar' University to earn their degrees.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tis unfortunate to discover that you look down on people with Bachelor Degrees in Communications awarded from less prestigious Universities such as the University of Idaho

She touts her degree in journalism, yet loses her composure when asked by a reporter what she reads. I believe it's OK to look down on her for that.

Also, one is justified to expect that a person touting her degree in communications and journalism would be not only be able to write their own books, but want to write them without resorting to ghostwriters. Especially if she's out there blathering about the sorry state of journalism -- on the network that is practically the communications arm for US conservatism.

Madverts:

Obama and Palin's gaffes aren't in the same league. "Hell, it 'aint even the same goddamned sport".

If you actually saw or heard the interview you would understand that she simply misspoke. Beck pointed out her mistake, she say's "yeah" and a few seconds later says, "... we are bound by prudence to stand by our South Korean allies". It is silly to try to make this into something it isn't. But if this helps Liberals deal with the failure of Obamanomics and the shellacking in the mid-terms, then sure this isn't even in the same league.

But I suppose in a way the media and the Left's preoccupation with Palin can actually be very useful for Republicans over the next two years. This takes the scrutiny off of the serious contenders as they make their preparations for 2012. With the Obama administration imploding, attacking a female conservative that in all likelyhood will not run is the best the Left has to offer America. You can bet that with Republicans taking the House, there will not be any more socialist legislation getting out of Congress.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wolfpack,

When asked by Beck how she would handle a situation like the one that was developing in North Korea, Palin responded: "This is stemming from, I think, a greater problem when we're all sitting around asking, 'Oh no, what are we going to do,' and we're not having a lot of faith that the White House is going to come out with a strong enough policy to sanction what it is that North Korea is going to do."

It is unclear whether Palin is talking about sanctions against North Korea, or U.S. sanctioning -- i.e. approving or supporting -- its actions.

Palin continued: "Obviously, we gotta stand with our North Korean allies," when Beck interrupted and corrected her to say "South Korea."

The woman's a blithering idiot.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If you actually saw or heard the interview you would understand that she simply misspoke.

As dismissive of Sarah Palin as I am, I agree that this incident is a simple misstatement, and should not be used to imply that she can't tell the difference between North and South Korean.

I believe that a reporter with a degree in journalism to ask another colleague with the same degree in journalism to ask the lame question 'what books do you read' should result in her losing her composure.

This, however, defies logic. Why would a journalist who is questioning a politician or candidate for public office treat them as a "colleague" just because they carry a certain degree? In understand why Fox News would treat her as a colleague just because she's a fellow Republican/conservative -- and that proves that whatever Fox does, it's not journalism.

Also, questioning a person on what they are reading can only be a "gotcha" question if the person doesn't read anything worth talking about.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

yabits at 06:04 AM JST - 28th November. As dismissive of Sarah Palin as I am,

Maybe true, however, you cannot take her too lightly. Palin's fundraising prowess reflects her popularity. There are a lot of people willing to make a contribution to her, and during tough economic times when the money given is more valuable than when times are great. There are many who are running for the office that wants to be her allies because of her fundraising capabilities. Very few can command effective fundraising as Palin.

A female version of BUSH 2.0 !!!! She's great in dividing the country instead of bringing - UNITY, which the country needs right now. Since all armed forces abroad are getting hammered. I hope she will put her words into action and visit the V.A. Hospitals.

Gotch'a Governor Palin you don't read.

sail I don't see how you can defend this woman. She is a total idiot. Even if I were a Republican American I'd be embarrassed that she were one too. Just the fact that they are even considering her is a big red flag. That party sure as heck doesn't know what it's doing as much as the Democrats don't. I think they shot themselves in the foot with her. I never understood any answer she gave at all and that's not because she gives good political answers. It's because she has no idea what she is being asked or how to answer it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Past tense. History. If you don't think Obama can do the job right, how could you think that she could? Like her friend O'Connell that "studied" Constitutional law but doesn't know which amendment is which or what they say. Sarah's a bluff and a wink. Go find another. I mean, at least Hillary had a law degree and experience.

Palin can't win the middle if she can't even win over Barbara Bush (a lot of Americans love Barbara Bush). And it doesn't help that she's even trading barbs with Barbara. Sometimes, she has to pick her fights better, and sometimes, it's just better to keep shut up. All she's doing is make the story bigger and longer.

She could definitely win the Republican Primaries - and that could be a nightmare scenario for Republicans hoping to win the White House. For that to happen, she's gonna have to move toward the middle.

mike,

Just something to consider here about our 'total idiot'. Palin has established a record of manipulating the media (and a negative one toward at that, which makes this even more impressive if you really think about it) that is unmatched now by even Obama's team and he's got the 'Bully Pulpit' with all its bells and whistles that go along with it to get his message across. Just a single tweet from Palin's phone sends tsunamis and fits roaring across the international media sphere. Palin has developed herself into one of the most media-savvy figures on the current scene.

But that really shouldn't be surprising. She does has a journalism degree after all (from that second rate college Idaho) and she sure shows that she knows how to use it on a level that I see as unmatched by anybody in modern times.

Obviously Sarah Palin has a strong base of support in the Republican Party and I respect those skills. But I spend most of my time right now on how I can be the best possible president.

From his T.V interview Nov 24 2010.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I saw sarah palin's show and it convinced me that she will run for president in 2012. The show is amazing. The production value is first-rate. Deep down however, it's shallow. It's shameless self-pandering. It kind of said, "You want an environmental policy, well I commune with nature bi*ches." I can't imagine that ego not running.

Taka

Taka313:

She will not run. However, if I am wrong and she does end up running, then I agree with Taka's sentiment here. She quits her job as governor and runs for president with a self-promotional television show? I realize that the evolving media environment has changed how candidates run for political office, but this is just too overly self-centered for my taste.

I happen to like Palin in general and am alarmed at how the Left's allies in the media have been able to run a coordinated smear campaign against her. When she hit the national scene, the Left saw her as a huge political threat and they went after her in every way imaginable.

The way in which she has been attacked is very similar to the old line media hit job against Ronald Reagan and Newt Gingrich. Gingrich was an easy target and didn't have Reagan's teflon personality. In addition to his affability, Reagan had years of experience in politics going back to his days as an FDR Democrat and leader of a union. His ideas and political thinking were well thought out and developed. By contrast, like Obama, Palin is much newer to politics and simply lacks experience. America doesn't need another novice political leader.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Palin has developed herself into one of the most media-savvy figures on the current scene.

Yeah but so has Kim Jong Il. Doesn't qualify her to run the country. Mr. Bush and Mr. Obama were both "popular" too. Did they do an outstanding job?

Madverts:

It is unclear whether Palin is talking about sanctions against North Korea, or U.S. sanctioning -- i.e. approving or supporting -- its actions.

It was pretty clear to me what she is referring to sanctions against North Korea. In fact, re-read your own quote of Palin's comments:

..."and we're not having a lot of faith that the White House is going to come out with a strong enough policy to sanction what it is that North Korea is going to do,"

It is very disgengenuous to suggest that she somehow supports North Korea's actions. Her entire interview was very tough towards North Korea. You are simply trying to isolate a statement and detach it from the context of the overall point she was putting forth in order to try to deligitimize her. Are you not able to understand the meaning of the word 'sanction' in the context of her statement? Of course you do. There are legit concerns about Palin's experience and her temprament for the job of President that can be discussed. Nit-picking like this is silly and reveals an irrational hatred towards her more than anything else.

Mike, if Jesse the Body Ventura can become governor of Michigan, Arnie governor of Califohnia, and this lady governor of the administrative territory of Alaska, that alone is proof that popularity is more than enough, and that American democracy is finally now coming to an end.

I hope she gets elected. All I want is sufficient notice to build a big enough bomb shelter.

Peace

She is an entertaining TV character, no doubt about that. A clown without make-up or costume. That said, I think that after the Bush Years, Americans will never elect again a person who can make The Vanishing Magic Show with their money - something that Palin seems more than capable of doing willingly.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Interesting. A article which amounts to mere speculation about Sarah Palin, now a private citizen, draws 104 comments.

She is more "irrelevant" than ever !

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"governor of the administrative territory of Alaska,"

um. State. Alaska is a state. And please note that Jesse and Arnie actually served their full terms. Thanks. And while we are at it, you might be closer to understanding the administrative credentials of Sarah Palin when you understand that the population of Columbus Ohio is larger than that of Alaska, while California's is much greater than all of Canada. Arnie was a world leader. Palin was Mayor McCheese.

Tim, it is fair to say that comments about an article about Palin are more pithy than Palin herself. Give credit where credit is due. I am not posting because she is interesting. I am posting because you are. Let's face it, Lady Gaga and Paris Hilton can rack up more comments solely on their own merits. It does not mean that they know any more about our Korean allies than Palin does.

Governors--and presidents--do read. And when someone new to the national stage is running for office, that's a reason to ask them what they read.

You're really reaching with unfounded and bizarre speculation there.

Actually to be fair an objective on this I have to ask you this, Kate Couric did not ask her ask actually ask "What do you read" she asked this....

And when it comes to establishing your worldview, I was curious: what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world?

I have a real simple question for you......what newspapers and magazines do you regularly read to understand the world? Be careful because if you answer a newspaper or magazine with a left wing tilt you'll be called a socialist and a commie by the right wing and if you answer with a newspaper with a right wing wing tilt you'll be called a racist and hatemonger....... Get it know why she hesitated on answering the 'simple question' asked of her at the time as she was thrust on the National stage with a press that wasn't exactly enthralled with her arrival.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What a sad reflection on Americans she would be if even considered for President. Does she even know the difference between North and South Korea yet? Do Americans really want a President who is politically illiterate about the world?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Be careful because if you answer a newspaper or magazine with a left wing tilt you'll be called a socialist and a commie by the right wing and if you answer with a newspaper with a right wing wing tilt you'll be called a racist and hatemonger.......

It's easy to understand that anyone who regularly reads the New York Times, for example, will be labelled a socialist/commie by the loony right.

However, I've often told folks on the left that I'll read The National Review and folks like D'Sousa, Krauthammer, or George F. Will, the Wall Street Journal, or watch Fox News to get the conservative take on things, and have never been called a racist or hatemonger for doing so. Of course, I don't fly around the country saying that only people who hold my views are the "real America" the way Palin does.

So the above quote is clearly a misrepresentation of reality. It provides some kind self-justifying excuse for folks like Palin who believe that the US is in the midst of a 24/7 "culture war" with the forces of evil. It is telling that Palin, as mayor of Wasilla, wanted to ban certain books from the town library. If it were true that liberals are equally as closed-minded, there should be no shortage of examples of crusades by the left to ban right-wing and conservative books.

And yet there aren't any such examples.

It may be that Palin's "reading" consisted mainly of Harlequin Romances and crossword puzzles, and that she suspected that admitting as much would cause her to be seen as she truly is: a lightweight.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Be careful because if you answer a newspaper or magazine with a left wing tilt you'll be called a socialist and a commie by the right wing and if you answer with a newspaper with a right wing wing tilt you'll be called a racist and hatemonger.......

Or that could all just be blather in sailwind's head as he tries to defend his precious sarah.

A smart person would have said they were briefed daily on the major points of the day. Apparently she wasn't smart enough to think of that answer when Katie asked it. I guess it was a "gotcha" question. It MOST LIKELY wasn't intended to be, but it tripped up palin anyway.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Apparently she wasn't smart enough to think of that answer when Katie asked it.

She also didn't consider the impact of the example to kids everywhere who are constantly told how valuable reading is. If you look around at these "tea party mama's" -- Bachman, Angle, O'Donnell, Virginia Thomas, Palin, etc., I don't believe any of them have done any serious reading in years.

What kind of message does that send? At best it tells kids they can get by and even have a shot at high political office with the most mediocre intellect. So, rather than viewing the question as one where Palin could lead by example, she thought of herself and her image first and foremost.

Some leader.

White men love Sarah Palin (and her assets) and seem to detest Obama. This is why she is popular right now. She's attractive so she gets attention by the media and that's about all you need to make news these days. White people eat this shyte up 'cause they want to make fun of the 'coon and his elitist (a.k.a. smart) friends. Let's dumb down America people so we can enjoy the power that comes with controlling all industries that run this gullible nation. Death to sensibility.

Palin in 2012 "Let's take the country backwards!"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Pretender.

Although she's smarter than she lets on, she still doesn't give anyone that feeling that she could be a "unifier" - everyones president - nor do we get the impression that she's especially well-informed or well-opinioned about relevant issues large and small. Palin serves best as a fundraiser and path-marker for the Republican Party.

However, as a party strategy, it doesn't hurt to dangle Palin in front of the opposition ... thus forcing them to spend time and resources on ways to counteract her if she DID actually run. Meanwhile a 'stealth' candidate - like Obama was - of greater potential can be cultivated off the radar.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If so many millions of people voted for an idiot like Bush whats to say they wouldnt do the same for another intellectually challenged Republican passing themselves off as a credible politician? As Rick Shenkman questions in his book "Just how stupid are we?" are the electorate themselves just as ignorant of basic facts about political life as some of these politicians running for office are?

I would say that Pravda is NOT going to give ms. palin an endorsement.

From Pravda:

By attacking the democratically elected President of the United States of America at a sensitive time in her country’s history, she shows the tact of a boorish drunkard bawling obscenities at a funeral….

And now she turns not only against the fibre and backbone of her country, but against its democratically elected President, accusing him of being incompetent for not stopping Wikileaks. Where was she and where was her GOP before and during the 9/11 attacks? She accuses President Obama of not taking “steps” to assure the leaks were not published. What “steps”?……

If anything is a threat to the national security of the United States of America, it is this screaming, unrefined oaf with as much class as a searing release of flatulence followed by hysterical giggling at a state banquet. Is this what the people of the USA deserve?
