Is this fake news? Makes one wonder if it's not a new set for the next Bourne movie.

So name a military that DOESN'T practice?

If this is true, I see this as an act of aggression!

If you want to defeat China then work on it's wealth accumulation. Having a deficit trade status with China will not make America safe rather it make China to amaze more wealth and make more weapons. Do as Trump did. impose more tariff and help make made in America products. Need more factories and entrepreneurs. Make a capitalist nation to build more factories and produce more products cheaper than Chinese. Let world have more options to buy from other nations. eg: India, African nations, and Vietnam etc... this is one way to stop the rise of China power.

Things are getting very dark. Macabre, even. I sure hope that Taiwan/US/Japan have a plan...

It won’t stop China. You need numbers rather than just suggest “stop buying China.” And who is going to pay for the losses of these countries?

If everyone in the US stopped buying goods from China, China would lose 1% of its GDP. Significant, but inconsequential.

3% of China’s GDP is exports to the US. That is how much China is dependent on the US, 3%.

Here is the breakdown: Exports make up 18.5% of China’s GDP, exports to the US is 17% of the total exports. The US portion is 3.15% of China’s GDP (0.17x18.5)

70% of Chinese exports are industrial goods, 30% of Chinese exports are consumer goods - things like belts that hold up our pants and other goods consumers buy - that is 1% of China’s GDP (0.30x3.15%)

Chinese goods make up merely 1% of China’s GDP, that the the combined American purchases of Chinese goods is 1%.

Now what about the 70% of industrial goods, can we maybe try and boycott some of that? You can but you’d be reducing your industrial output and putting people out of work.

I sure hope that Taiwan/US/Japan have a plan...*

One thing is certain is that the US does not plan on selling the F-35 and the latest arms to Taiwan in the event Taiwan falls to China. Don’t want the best to rest in the enemy’s hands.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

I agree. The Chinese are making a plan. We need one too.

China is determined to go to war with the world.

Paul

I see this as an act of aggression

So - let me explain this in easy terms: China is an independent country, doing military training on their own soil, with very realistic scenarios, from their point of view. I hope you understand they don't need America's approval for that - simulating the enemy is an approach taken by militaries all over the world since millenia.

9 ( +14 / -5 )

Let's not exaggerate. As Mr Kipling pointed out, other militaries do the same. The US air force uses a mockup of a Chinese fighter, for example.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

Much a do about nothing. The U.S. has probably run computer simulations of attack scenario's on every ship in the Chinese Navy and every aircraft in the Chinese air force.

9 ( +12 / -3 )

I'm surprised the media hasn't said it's a prison camp where millions of ethnic minorities are detained in cramped conditions. The media usually has an agenda driven by western countries' desire to keep Asian and African countries weak.

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

Let’s not forget, the US spend more money for their military than Russia and China together, but that is for defensive purpose only of course.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

The U.S. has probably run computer simulations of attack scenario's on every ship in the Chinese Navy and every aircraft in the Chinese air force.

Here are some of the results from the war games.

*The U.S. Air Force repelled a Chinese invasion of Taiwan during a massive war game last fall by relying on drones acting as a sensing grid, an advanced sixth-generation fighter jet able to penetrate the most contested environments, cargo planes dropping pallets of guided munitions and other novel technologies yet unseen on the modern battlefield.

*The U.S. military was crippled during a classified war game last year that exposed vulnerabilities the Pentagon is trying to fix, should it ever face off against a sophisticated adversary like China, the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs said this week.

“Without overstating the issue, it failed miserably,” Gen. John Hyten said of the battle plan during the October exercise, which he detailed Monday at the Emerging Technologies Institute in Washington.

*Our spy and communications satellites would immediately be disabled; our forward bases in Guam and Japan would be “inundated” by precise missiles; our aircraft carriers would have to sail away from China to escape attack; our F-35 fighter jets couldn’t reach their targets because the refueling tankers they need would be shot down.

*The U.S. military reportedly "failed miserably" in a series of wargame scenarios designed to test the Pentagon's might. The flunked exercises, which took place last October, are a red flag that the way the military has operated for years isn't going to fly against today's enemies.

*'We're going to lose fast': U.S. Air Force held a war game that started with a Chinese biological attack

More of the Russian-Chinese partnership to ratchet up tensions and increase pressure on the Biden administration in both Europe and Asia....as part of their overall effort to get Trump or a similarly autocrat-friendly Repub back in the WH in 2024....

To help make Russia and China Great Again....and the US a third-world dictatorship...

Remember that when voting in 2022/24....

Clear evidence of preparing for conflict, but the global attitude is ‘let’s do business!’. We should be collectively isolating China until democracy can remove the corrupt ccp..

Thank You China. Japan will now double its defense budget. Thank you.

Crashpilot:

Yes, of course.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Coincidentally, almost an equal number of those countries depend on the US for protection.

Protection from who?

2 ( +5 / -3 )

By the time the Chinese figure out how to sink them, the U.S. will have made an entirely new drone fleet.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Sorry, but putting mock-ups of ships into the desert is just only idiotic. You can’t even militarily simulate or train anything such way. Maybe some shooting on static targets, but even then you don’t need a ship mock-up. Makes no sense at all. So let those psychos play in their big forensic facility. lol

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Iran had a similar mock-up US aircraft carrier ‘floating’ in the Gulf. For various training purposes? Another example of China and Iran working together.

On rails though, it does suggest testing the ability to aim at a moving target.

We should, but so far this admin doesn't have a plan and when you leave and put our military on the backburner and for years you ignore the Chinese military threat and don't invest in building up your military for 8 years then this is the result and now we have to play catch up. It's a daunting task, not impossible but this admin needs to take China seriously and plan to grow and expand our military

Republicans held the Congress for 6 years of Obama's terms.

Well, thank goodness Biden has never said things like all these compliments to Xi.....

“One of the many great things about our just signed giant Trade Deal with China is that it will bring both the USA & China closer together in so many other ways. Terrific working with President Xi, a man who truly loves his country.

“China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus. The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi!”

“He’s now president for life, president for life. And he’s great,” “And look, he was able to do that. I think it’s great. Maybe we’ll have to give that a shot someday,”

Thankfully for our democracy, his "shot" on Jan 6th failed....

If the tracks are six meters apart as I read today on a military site, then those targets are not full sized.

Aa yes, the problem is clearly that the US needs to expand its military even more, since they only spend more than any other country in the world by several orders of magnitude. More spending on military is definitely the answer.

Honestly this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Who here doesn't think the US has training mockups of Chinese vehicles that they regularly train against? It is such a relatively benign practice that this doesn't even warrant being subtle about, otherwise China would have done this underground.

Other countries always have to worry about the threat the biggest military presents, nobody wants to be at the mercy of massive imperialistic army if they have the means to avoid it. Consequently if people really want China to decrease their military, it would make sense starting with the US first.

The US has been preparing to have the ability to successfully confront China for a long time. New hardware you see coming on line now began their development cycles over a decade ago. Some tech you see took decades to mature. And there are a lot of war-critical technologies the Chinese have not mastered, like reliable turbofan engines, reliable naval gas turbines, tilt rotor aircraft (the US has been experimenting with tilt-rotor aircraft since the late 1950s), advanced rotorcraft like the new Sikorsky S-97 Raider (game changing rotorcraft technology), all aspect L-O and the list goes on. The Chinese have never flown anything like a Space Shuttle or an X-15. They have nothing like the X-37B (ask what is it doing up in space for over a year per mission?). The Chinese have major vulnerabilities. I have seen their warships up close and personal and you can tell they haven't fought a naval battle in centuries. If the engine in your fighter lasts only 400 hours or so before requiring overhaul like the Russian engines do, you need an awful lot of fighters in your inventory to allow them to be withdrawn from service every 400 hours for an engine change followed by a detailed post maintenance check flight. What happens to your sortie rate if a large proportion of your fleet is grounded for maintenance. Western fighter engines typically go 1500 to as long as 3000 hours before needing an overhaul. That long maintenance interval keeps your aircraft in action against your enemy and is just one of the many non-obvious but critical advantages western forces have over the Chinese and Russians. That same relative durability is true of their other equipment.

Wait, so everything is Obama's fault now? What happened to your golden boy Trump?

Mr. Obama instituted the "Pivot to the Pacific" and a lot of the new hardware coming on line today began their development cycles back then. The Repubes would like people to forget that fact.

It doesn't? What was Team Trump's plan, so that we can compare.

Not to capitulate to China and call China out on every step, which this administration hasn’t done and still won’t since Biden has been President.

How do you know your administration does not have a plan just because it does not disgust it directly with you?

No, if they did, China wouldn’t be so bold in doing what they’re doing and this White House would be talking about non-stop.

Absolutely - Biden sure hasn't "called China out" like this;

“One of the many great things about our just signed giant Trade Deal with China is that it will bring both the USA & China closer together in so many other ways. Terrific working with President Xi, a man who truly loves his country.
