The Islamic view about sex seems to be one-sided. For example, males who go to paradise get 72 virgins for their personal use, but no mention of what women get. Mohammed had 11 wives. His favorite was 9 years old when he consummated their marriage. (Check your history books before you get angry at me.)

'“I am too frustrated and upset to appeal the sentence,” said al-Yami.' It's a man's world alright.

BobbieWickham Unlike your emotional response about smokers, I merely stated historical fact! That's why I said check your history books before you get mad at me. He did have a 9 year old wife, among his 11 wives. By the way, why would I say smokers are the most evil people in the world?

what about the other people that produced the show? the other men? Since Saudi is a mysoginistic society, i'm sure the men will get away scot free. Only the obvious ones were caught.

Saudi is at the leading edge of fundamentalism, just like the Taliban. The west should put pressure on them to create equal rights for women. The fact that they sell us a lot of oil shouldnt excuse them of this.

Infidels out!

4 men were snared and only one woman. Only the woman is accused of producing the show. I would not discount the possibilites that it can take only one to produce a show, that others are now being investigated, or that this article has intentionally or accidently left the other out.

Anyway, we have 1,900 lashes being given to men, and only 60 to women. If that is the score it looks like Saudi is very unfairly partial to women. But what good is it rationalizing with most people? They all want their pariah. I would not doubt the Saudis call us mysogynists because some of our women have to work for living!

She wasn't in a "sex show." She had a tenuous involvement in a show in which sex was discussed. Amazingly, the judge seems to have acquitted her but sentenced her to a prolonged torture session anyway.

SBBarnes - maybe married at 6, but at least he didn't start having sex with her until she was 9.

And whenever the "prophet" wanted to do something he told others not to do, the Arc Angel Gabriel would make a special trip to see him and tell him it was alright, because as the "prophet" he wasn't subject to the same laws.

“I am too frustrated and upset to appeal the sentence,” said al-Yami.

Surely being 'frustrated and upset' would encourage you to make an appeal? As I said it's a mans world alright.

Saudi Arabia is a strict sharia country, and it shows what we will get if we follow islamic demands and introduce Sharia in our countries.

The words sex show call to mind something very different for me. I guess I'm probably an infidel. LOL

Obama's own hand-picked adviser on Muslim affairs, Dalia Mogahed, has repeatedly declared the majority of women worldwide associate Sharia with "gender justice."

In this country we see a regime or one led by false interpretations of ancient texts, that condones values from the west, capitalism, self enrichment, profiteering. Furthermore discrimination, cruelty against women and slavery seem to be OK too. But never mention sex, man's most basic reason d'etre.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but who are you to tell the clerics of Saudi Arabia, the absolutely Shariah country and guardian of the holy sites of islam, that they "falsely" interpret their ancient texts?

That claim is pretty hilarious.

SBBArnes: the other guys were street people interviewed as part of the program. They are not part of the production staff. I'm sure there's many other men involved in the decision making there. I'm not in the TV business, but i'm sure that even for the simplest broadcasts you need many people for management, camera work, sound, editing, etc. etc. Why only the woman was punished is the reason you see so much criticism.

As can be seen from recent times, most muslim or arab countries are very progressive. Even countries such as Iran are very receptive to global ideas. The cultural transformation in Iraq is a direct result of the openness facilitated by access to mainstream culture. Once the floodgates have been opened, there's no way that you can take those freedoms away from these people. Saudi has repeatedly shown that they will have none of these reforms, and will continue to lead a country where the richest 1% of the population control 99% of the resources. If it wasn't for all the US protection, the Kingdom would have come to pass a long time ago.

Keep laughing my friend. You're probably the only one. Do you need my credentials? First give me yours.

I know first hand that sex toys and the such are sold over the counter in pharmacy's, supposedly to married couples. You can buy penis enhancers from the local free adds. Jeddah is a pretty liberal city and once you get behind a walled compound or residence your free to do as you like. I think what they are trying to do is deter women from making such liberal choices by sentencing this one.

I dont agree with it or condone it, I also think its quite hypocritical as usual, but why were none of the management arrested or detained in this. Look they aired it, probably previewed it, and left her as a scape goat. The only reprimand I see for the station was its closing, but that was by management as I understand it.

I can't stand this news. Religious law as government law? Sick and pathetic. Murder, theft, abuse, etc are way more important criminal activity than talking about sexual activity. On top of that "spanking" an adult... talk about no liberties.
