People are “forced” not to smoke in bars and restaurants. People are “forced” to fasten their seatbelts on airplanes. Kansans are “forced” to be vaccinated for measles, mumps and rubella in order to attend state universities.

It impacts their freedom not one bit. Get on board or get used to a declining circle of privileges, not rights.

The poll shows 59% of Americans support vaccination requirements for teachers and nearly as many — 55% — say the same for students age 12 and over, who are eligible to be vaccinated. Among parents, support was lower, with 42% backing vaccine mandates for students.

Schools requiring vaccines is nothing new.

Now that the Pfizer vaccine has FDA approval, I would expect more vaccines mandates in the future.

Do I expect those who bleat "but this is an experimental vaccine!" to shut up now? No. I don't.

I don't think people realize the extent to which this is not a good idea. I know many people want the government to dictate safety measures to make people feel cozy and warm. Others feel that once covid is over or deemed not a threat, the powers to mandate will still be held. Imagine some benign activity you engage in suddenly becoming illegal. Can't you realize that dictatorial power always begins with seemingly good intentions? Have you no foresight?

No. It's to increase the safety of children and teachers alike. It's not about cozy and warm feelings.

Others feel that once covid is over or deemed not a threat, the powers to mandate will still be held.

The powers to mandate have always been there and they have been used before.

Can't you realize that dictatorial power always begins with seemingly good intentions?

I can see things like the Patriot Act falling into this category. Vaccine mandates? Not so much.

Have you no foresight?

Yes. Yes, I do.

“My prayer is that somehow or another, an angel passes over and these kids are allowed to grow and mature without finding themselves in a hospital on a ventilator.”

That's one approach, one apparently favored by many far right Evangelicals,

But I would rather listen to pediatricians, who say:

Everyone Should Wear A Mask In Schools, Vaccinated Or Not, U.S. Pediatricians Say

https://www.npr.org/2021/07/20/1018380783/everyone-should-wear-a-mask-in-schools-vaccinated-or-not-u-s-pediatricians-say

But I know pediatricians are considered 'experts' which is a negative word to many in the religious far right and their global media these days. In stead many in the far right follow the advice of a televangelist or an anti-science entertainer paid by Rupert Murdoch, like Tucker Carlson who says things like call the police if you see a child wearing a mask.

As the virus kills and sickens more people, and healthcare systems get overwhelmed.

Far right pandemic deniers, saying 'just another flu', including the religious as well as those paid by an authoritarian regime bent on undermining democracies, and the just plain wack, do not care a rat's about anyone but themselves, and they call that level of selfishness 'freedom'.

More good news.

At least eight Republican-led states have moved to ban universal mask mandates in schools, including in Texas, Florida and Tennessee.

These are also the states where people are taking Ivermectin, meant for cattle and horses, to cure COVID.

If the FDA has to inform people they are humans not cattle, you know there are a lot of people are sliding down the ignorance slope.

Masks are the answer. They clearly work.

but their views are sharply divided along political lines

How not surprising! Trust Republicans to endanger peoples health in the name of Trumpism!

Vaccinations are part of our lives from the day we are borne. It has always been done for the good of the society as a whole. But now vaccinations and masks which are obvious spread prevention measures for the last 100 years, became weaponized by the Republicans in deprement to society's well being!

Recall, not too long ago the politician who suggested injecting a disinfectant, and some of his followers actually following his suggestion, and many others defending what he said.

So the result is: everything is a political circus, not about health anymore.

It seems that the left wants to wear masks forever. I don't really mind as long as they don't force it on others.

The polls are inaccurate as usual.

Many respondents just say “No Way” and hang up.

However, those are counted as “invalid response” instead of disagree.

Ever since 2016 it’s been obvious that the polls are skewed.

I guess the Talibans are right for making women wear hijabs. It's also effective as a protective measure. It's no worse than forcing everyone to wear mask, isn't it?

Doctors think it's good to place a cast on someone when their bones are broken. I guess doctors want to make everyone completely immobile. I am very smart.

Ever since 2016 it’s been obvious that the polls are skewed.

Polls have been off since telephones stopped being answered. Getting a completely random sample has been a challenge for all reputable polling companies for about 15 yrs - basically since VoIP happened.

What happened since 2008 is that "approved" media bias has been fighting "lying" media from bloggers (i.e. Fox News personalities), since they weren't interested in the truth, just sensational headlines and crazy, untrue, stories with a massive slant.
