Herding cats trying to get elementary students to "social distance", wear masks, wash hands 8 times a day.

In 2-4 weeks, all the kids and teachers will have the virus, spread it to their families, work places, restaurants, grocery stores. At least there are treatments to reduce the seriousness of the sick.

At least then, the parents will be required to take care of their kids at home.

I hope it's worth sacrificing children for.

Because that's the sort of messed up thing ancients did to appease their deities.

Newly reopened schools in Mississippi, Indiana and Georgia have already reported infections just days into the academic year,

As long as it's kids from families at the lower end of the economic spectrum, Trump, De Vos and their fellow plutocrats 'can't be bothered'.

Trump and his fellow 'elite' continue further dividing America along class lines. And race. Trump etal continue to weaken America. Putin and Xi are smiling.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Sorry, but "Back to School" ain't gonna work. Kids in classrooms will learn with a virus that can already add, multiply and then divide and subtract. Trump's zeal for "lerning" the kids is belied by his own infamous ignorance. With no regard for the health and welfare of Americans he swore an oath to protect, Trump just wants the children out of the house so that their parents can return as "heroes" to their work places while he hunkers in his bunker watching trash TV, when not riding around the green on his golf cart.

Nice to see kids back at school.

In most countries the schools have reopened and if you take the proper precautions you can make schools a safer environment, my kids are all back in school now in Japan and if they can do it, the States can as well and should. This is just so ridiculous.

As long as it's kids from families at the lower end of the economic spectrum,

That’s a bunch of manure!

What? Oh, lol....

I hope it's worth sacrificing children for.

That's a bit melodramatic. Far more kids will die as a result of accidents on their journeys to and from school than they will of COVID-19.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

In most countries the schools have reopened

In most countries severely affected by Covid-19, the schools are still on their summer vacation.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

so liberals are now in disagreement with your hero Dr Fauci and your leader Chuck Schumer?

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Most, but not all children will be ok. But that’s the horrible part. They will be channels for the virus. Teachers, bus drivers, janitors and family members will get infected and they will NOT be ok.

This is basic science (probably why Trump and his Rubes don’t get it.) .

I fully understand that virtual is not as good as in person (one wonders why I am paying the same tuition for my older child...) I understand that some parents do not have the means to wfh. It’s what we have. It’s the least worst option. Fewer deaths, less illness. For kids, it’s rounding error in the grand scheme of things. (Full disclosure: my child is taking a gap year between HS in Tokyo and University in LA. It’s just too dangerous.)

stay home, when the vaccine is ready (likely next summer) get the jab (jab me twice please), come back and try again.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

so liberals are now in disagreement with your hero Dr Fauci and your leader Chuck Schumer?

You'd have to ask a liberal.

As it stands, I'd mostly trust a scientist with a credible record for long term service rather than politicians.

We already know they don't give a damn about kids - just witness the platituded rolled out after every school massacre.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

We already know they don't give a damn about kids - just witness the platituded rolled out after every school massacre.

You must be talking about the black on black 100 children that have already been randomly shot in Baltimore right? BLM?

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

As it stands, I'd mostly trust a scientist with a credible record for long term service rather than politicians.

As do I and many others and there are plenty of doctors with the same level of credentials and long time service that disagree with Fauci

We already know they don't give a damn about kids -

No, they do and since kids are MORE resilient to the virus and like in most countries, they can indeed go back and should go to school and it can be done in a safe way, public schools are already a mess to begin with, but at least the kids have the right to be educated even if the public system is crap.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

I hope it's worth sacrificing children for.

Kids are at extremely low risk for getting sick from the coronavirus. The risk is not zero for anyone. We can't all stay home.

It's more harmful to them to keep them at home at this point. From moms.com -

"Unfortunately, COVID arrived with some negative repercussions, too. The great divide is now more significant. One study suggested that the change in our regular academic schedule will leave those lower-level students at a considerable disadvantage. The researcher project that at the being of the next school, roughly 66 percent of students will lag in their reading skills and 44 percent in math. It suggested the reading gap may widen more; as the top third, readers are likely to continue to build their skills.

Mental well being has magnified in children and adolescents since school closures began. Schools provide up to 57 percent of mental health services for adolescents. A study published in JAMA Pediatrics found that school closures are particularly disruptive for children in lower-income families, as the families are less likely to have access to alternative health care services.

Research shows academic achievement and mental health significantly affect one another. Those who live in chronic stress, experience change to the structure of the brain. Impaired cognitive skills and deficits can result in poor educational performance for our students."

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Fauci said return to school is fine, did you miss that? or are you agreeing with me that Fauci is a politically biased clown with no credibility?

As it stands, I'd mostly trust a scientist with a credible record for long term service rather than politicians.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

He also said

"We must not compromise the health, the safety, and the welfare of the children, of the teachers, and secondarily of their parents."

And "bringing kids in only some days or parts of the day and implementing mask-wearing and physical distancing — may be safest".

And even more importantly "... then there are other areas of the country where the infection prevalence and rate of new infection is so high that you really have to say, 'it is not a good idea to bring the kids back to school... you've just got to be flexible depending upon the level of infection where you're located."

So, unlike the disingenous Trump cult, I don't believe he's a clown or politically biased.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

typical Fauci. Three paragraphs of uncertainty, obvious statements and hedging between do it and dont do it. that way later he can see what happens then claim its what he proposed.

What is he actually telling us to do there?

"bringing kids in only some days or parts of the day - but doesnt give us any specific days or times or even recommend how many days, morning or afternoon. Nothing.

are other areas of the country where the infection prevalence and rate of new infection is so high - but doesnt tell us where is safe and where isnt. has no idea.

just got to be flexible - how? what are the actions to be taken?

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

"We must not compromise the health, the safety, and the welfare of the children, of the teachers, and secondarily of their parents."

And "bringing kids in only some days or parts of the day and implementing mask-wearing and physical distancing — may be safest

So by listening to the changing science, we now know from most experts, it’s better for the kids to go to school. Now that we know it can be done with the proper precautions.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

We already know they don't give a damn about kids -

So, no follow up? You’re usually quite animated when it comes to social justice issues, but strangely quiet now.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

yep, cause 7 people tested positive. 6 students and 1 teacher. I wouldnt call that an "outbreak" of corona.

However, more than 116 teachers and students in a Mississippi school district were instructed to self-isolate on Thursday, due to an outbreak of coronavirus less than two weeks after they reopened.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

@Black

Im just repeating what Chuck Schumer, Democratic leader of the Senate, said. need to reopen schools, he agreed with Trump, as did Fauci.

I'm just reporting the actions of what the teachers, parents, and students like trump whose son will not be going to classes in the Fall because it is still dangerous.

Do you believe that only the president's son should be out of harms way, but not all the other students in the country?

It has already been verified on multiple occasions that this administration is incompetent.

The fact is 5 million infections and 160,111 deaths all under trump's poor leadership and critical thinking skills.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Ok, so as soon as you denounce Fauci and Schumer for being wrong, we can proceed.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

yep, cause people tested positive. 6 students and 1 teacher. I wouldnt call that an "outbreak" of corona.

Every pandemic starts with one person. Remember when trump said, "And again, when you have 15 people [infected], and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that's a pretty good job we've done."

How did Israel fair during a fall in infections?

When Covid Subsided, Israel Reopened Its Schools. It Didn’t Go Well.

I remember when trump said only 15 infected in the whole country and so does the family and friends of those 5 million infected and 160,111 deaths.

@Black

Ok, so as soon as you denounce Fauci and Schumer for being wrong, we can proceed.

LOL! But, you did not mention trump being wrong........"the current leader of the US!"

Let's see.....trump attacked Birx as pathetic, and his trade advisor Navarro said of Girior disagreeing with him that doctors' opinions are a dime a dozen.

Yeah.....OK! Ha!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Trump is not wrong, its your dilemma as you are claiming he is wrong, yet two of your icons agree with Trump.

So if Trump is wrong, so are they. But you are trying to say Trump is wrong without saying those two are wrong too, which is impossible.

LOL indeed. what a pickle to be in.

LOL! But, you did not mention trump being wrong........"the current leader of the US!"

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

and Fauci is the current leader of the US. Why?

Because all liberals screaming Trump must listen to the experts.

But there are no experts in liberal land, just one- Fauci. So if Trump must listen to him and get his approval, who is really the leader?

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

@Black

Trump is not wrong, its your dilemma as you are claiming he is wrong, yet two of your icons agree with Trump.

LOL indeed. what a pickle to be in.

LOL! Which means Dr. Fauci is right, and you have been wasting our time for months to discredit Dr. Fauci because trump has no credibility with anyone that has common sense.

Fauci said return to school is fine, did you miss that? or are you agreeing with me that Fauci is a politically biased clown with no credibility?

LOL! The difference between us and you is that we are not taking people's words out of context while not understanding the concept of a fact.

Anthony Fauci says schools can be reopened safely, but on a case-by-case basis.

Oh, my.............

LOL! In a matter of weeks, we proven that 116 teachers and students in a Mississippi school district were instructed to self-isolate on Thursday, due to an outbreak of coronavirus less than two weeks after they reopened.

All thanks to more of trump's poor leadership skills.

Thanks, @Black!

Did you read that from a QAnon website?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

he cant be right if he agrees with Trump and you say Trump is wrong.

You can keep posting about 116 teachers and students all day, but only 7 of them have corona.

Covid: Seven year old dies of coronavirus in Georgia, a day after Trump said children are ‘almost immune’

https://www.yahoo.com/news/covid-seven-old-dies-coronavirus-133005361.html

Mr Trump said on Wednesday morning that “schools should be open. If you look at children — I would almost say definitely — they are almost immune from this disease.”

After the president posted a clip of the comments on his Facebook page, it was taken down by the social media site, who said it contained “false claims”.

In a statement on Wednesday evening, Facebook spokesperson Andy Stone said: “This video includes false claims that a group of people is immune from Covid-19 which is a violation of our policies around harmful Covid misinformation.”

The post was also taken down from both Twitter and Youtube, for breaching their coronavirus misinformation rules.

Oh, my..........................

I said that is what liberals are screaming, not what is happening. Back to reality, Fauci is a partisan clown who controls no one and Trump is the President.

But wont stop liberals from screaming about listening to experts, then saying everyone but Fauci is not an expert. People arent that dumb to not know what is going on.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

@Black

LOL! Here, we have another strawman argument from the usual supporters because your logic does not have legs to stand on! Once again, using only your imagination to prove that trump is a competent leader.

Where is the proof that anything that you said above is true? I can provide your posts from this site showing you misleading people with false claims or taking people's words out of context.

Reality........yeah, right!

4 ( +4 / -0 )

So his son is going back into a school?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@Black

You can keep posting about 116 teachers and students all day, but only 7 of them have corona.

Yeah, and the school district is now on lockdown!

Just like we have 330 million Americans with 5 million currently infected and 166,111 died. Let's see how that nonchalant attitude pans out.....shall we!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@Black

he cant be right if he agrees with Trump and you say Trump is wrong.

a) LOL! No once have you asked me my view on the matter, so how would you know (Your imagination again).

b) LOL! Let me show you how this logic is faulty again:

Example:

Dr. Fauci agrees the number of cases are high in the US, trump believes that the number of cases are high in the US because we test more.

LOL! Dr. Fauci is right, but trump is wrong because of logic like you sometimes!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Im not risking my child. Trump isn't sending his son into school either. Hypocrite.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

@Britta

So his son is going back into a school?

Nope! At home! His school will not be open in-person this fall!

5 ( +5 / -0 )

5 million are not currently infected either.

You also conveniently forget that (a) there are 320 million+ people in America. So less than 1% of the population has ever had positive corona. A good many without any symptoms at all.

Then of that less than 1% positive, 95%+ of those have recovered or are recovering.

Its no wonder you keep posting 116 when you keep being told its 7 positive cases in Mississippi kids/teachers.

with 5 million currently infected

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

so then his son cant go can he? Trump has no choice in that matter. Or should he misuse his Presidential power to force the school to reopen only for his son?

His school will not be open in-person this fall!

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

@Black

Really.........?

According to the most recent data from Johns Hopkins University, the United States had diagnosed more than 4.8 million COVID-19 infections by Friday morning, which accounts for nearly one-fifth of the 19.1 million cases globally. The U.S. also recently surpassed 160,000 deaths.

Oh, my...........!
