Wow, for some reason, I thought he died back in the 80s. I must have gotten him confused with Heinlein.

He was a truly great man whose warnings about censorship are not heeded nearly enough in this internet age.

Best thing ever!

A prophetic writer to say the least.

I do remember reading his work in the 70's.
The one I remember most was one about an Astronaut falling back to earth and loses an arm.
The Illustrated Man?
His view on death:
"Death doesn't exist. It never did, it never will. But we've drawn so many pictures of it, so many years, trying to pin it down, comprehend it, we've got to thinking of it as an entity, strangely alive and greedy. All it is, however, is a stopped watch, a loss, an end, a darkness. Nothing."

"Fahrenheit 451" should be on everyone's reading list. Fiction based on reality.

It is regrettable that writers of Bradbury's ilk are fewer and fewer in number these days.

Eventually he'll be proved right, as the digitization of all books will lead to a society where all information is centralized and hence subject to censorship or deletion by the powers that be.

I've never read any of his stuff but maybe I'll check it out. I always seem to be a bit late....

“The Martian Chronicles" is his most famous work, isn't it? A legend in a class by himself.

Ray Bradbury, Robert A Heinlein, and Issac Asimov were the holy trinity for those of us growing up in the 70's. "The Martian Chronicles", "Stranger in a Strange Land", and "I, Robot" were the big three for those looking to the future. With the passing of the last of these authors, the world has become a less visionary place.

Like Moliner, for some reason I thought Bradbury was already dead as well. Must have been another SF writer.
Anyway, sorry to seem him go -- he was an amazing writer and I still love to go back and reread The Martian Chronicles and Farenheit 451. RIP, Bradbury -- you will live on in your work.

I miss him already.

I loved the Martian Chronicles Ray. RIP.

Rest in Peace, sir, and thank you for the really good times.

The world has lost a true treasure. What a talented and honorable man, 57 years married says a lot about his character.

SuperLib, although not SF, perhaps you might also want to read Orwell's "Animal Farm" and "1984". "F-451" is very thought-provoking and even chilling.

I've read The Trial and liked it.... I'm too busy reading the free downloads of free domain material on my iPad. Just read The Time Machine, Sherlock Holmes, The Picture of Dorian Grey. All free!

i don't know why people thought bradbury had already passed. i clearly recall him being in the news on conservative and libertarian blogs (bradbury, like many of the great American s.f writers identified as a libertarian) after b*tch-slapping michael moore for referencing fahrenheit 451 in the title of his ridiculous pastiche of lies and crackpot conspiracies about 9-11.

bradbury, who spent the final half of his life in california, praised reagan as our greatest president.
