People looking for excuses to do what they know best: hate, ransack, steal, burn, and destroy.

13 ( +20 / -7 )

This all gives the little people something to do in their boring lives. They feel important for a bit. Plus some join in the demos/riots to get some free stuff.

If a black cop had killed this thug nothing would have been said as it's common. But because the cop was white, all hell breaks out. It's racist.

Maybe the Pope should make this Brown into a Saint??

Title on the article is wrong. Many of these are not protests, they are riots. Difference is between whether violence or property damage is occurring or not. Since it is, its a riot, not a protest. Protests did occur, but a lot of rioting went on as well.

Seriously these people need to get a job and not looking for a reason to loot

white policeman was cleared in the killing of an unarmed black teenager. Is't this a racial statement?

with many blacks feeling the U.S. legal system and law enforcement authorities do not treat them fairly. Law enforcement does not target Blacks. Blacks by percentage are overwhelmingly committing crimes.

On Monday he said deep distrust exists between police and minorities and that “communities of color aren’t just making these problems up.” Yes, many feel victim of the system. They are not. Finish school and follow rules and work towards a career. No problems!

A 2013 state attorney general’s report found more than 85% of motorists pulled over in the city are black, and the arrest rate among blacks is twice the rate among white residents. And of those 85% how many were justified? Arrest twice that of white- Statistics show this not "targeting" it's reality. Just look at the looters!

How does stealing a TV help address the bias in the justice system?

13 ( +14 / -1 )

A big part of the racial disparity in arrests and incarceration of blacks is a by-product of the "War on Drugs". The numbers prior to the 70's campaign against drugs are far from today's. This has caused an even greater class disparity as more young men(mostly) of color have become entrapped in the cycle of poverty and criminality. This has also enhanced the deterioration of the family unit, furthering the cycle of poverty.

That's the new slavery.

As we saw in the France and the UK riots, the bottom feeders of the society will not miss a chance to take advantage of the mayhem.

All those who provoked these thugs should be put in prison, including Brown's stepfather.

Such a great percentage of America is similar to Ferguson where racism and racial profiling is still very existent but not apparent sometimes. In fact, your New Yorks and your Los Angeles' with liberal and non-racist image is probably in the minority. But the question is, does that have anything to do with this particular case? 12 Jurors, including 3 black Jurors don't think so. Personally, I'm going to trust their judgement.

And now, cops probably have to show "restraint" amidst the rioting and looting because, well you know, everything is related to racism. (that last part was sarcasm)

Ferguson’s mayor, James Knowles, is white, as are most of its city council members. A 2013 state attorney general’s report found more than 85% of motorists pulled over in the city are black, and the arrest rate among blacks is twice the rate among white residents.

What would one expect....Ferguson is 67% black and 27% white. That statement is a bit misleading given the ratio.

It's a familiar scenario: white cop shoots and kills black man and gets exonerated.

Definitely drug arrests have spiked in recent decades. The cycle of poverty also includes the Welfare generations. Expecting to be taken care of and relying on "the system" does not a whole lot for self esteem.

Unemployment in Black youths is nearly 20%, entry level jobs are there but it is difficult for some to be hired for their first job. W/O work history and competition from (formally) illegal immigrants makes it even tougher. A motivated Black youth has every opportunity anyone else has in USA perhaps more! Lacking high school completion seals the fate partially. They'll need to work even harder to make a good life for themselves.

Successful Blacks have one thing in common. The stepped away from violence and crime. They educated themselves and motivation. Same goes for ANY other race or religion. Crime, laziness and drugs do not fit in success!

Oh please. This shows a complete lack of understanding about the issues that black people face in the USA. I'm not saying that there are not motivational issues within many parts of the black community themselves, but the fact is that the issues/challenges faced don't only come from within the community, they also come from society at large.

Successful Blacks have one thing in common. The stepped away from violence and crime.

This also makes some pretty bad assumptions. The first is that all black people were born into a life of violence and crime, and have overcome it - what about kids who are born to affluent black parents? The second assumption is that all black people start off in violence and crime, then move away from it. A significant number never start in the first place.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Big difference lucabrasi! Open the eyes. Worked out for Obama and Bill Clinton also. The difference is leaving that behind. The three of them are/were motivated, educated and more than likely retired the drugs in their early 20's.

Of those rioters, how many needed to return to work on Tuesday? How many were stoned or other substances including alcohol? How many graduated high school? College? We'll never know.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

How does this help the black people? A lot of the businesses that got burned down are owned by black people. These people did nothing to deserve this. What is wrong with these people? You're making this into a race issue when really it's a criminal incident. But they're making this into a race issue and then turn around and burn down businesses owned by people of the very race that they say they want to protect. This is craziness.

Forgot to add: "Sparking unrest".

It's not hard to imagine who do the quick thumb down on my statement. Could it be those who refuse to accept, understand the underlying reasons for the position of the black man in the US?

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

I'm black, and from what I'm seeing in Ferguson the "parents" of this boy who quite literally was committing a felony before he lost his life. This young man was actively committing criminal acts. All of those who are "protesting" because the officer was Caucasian are really just blowing the situation into a racial act when it was all the fault of the idiot son that didn't have any common sense in his skull to keep his @$$ out of trouble. The police force in my city has black, Latino, Native American officers on the force so that when "situations" similar to this happen, its rarely considered racially motivated.

As I live in CO for well over 30 years, we've never had an incident like this in all the time I've been here. NEVER. But this isn't Missouri, and I can't really say what's up in their area or what their police force is like. And if the internal investigations couldn't turn up any evidence of wrongdoing then that's that. It should be federal law that all local police authorities have cams on the dash and in the car on the police officers so that all evidence can be captured about any situation that can and probably will happen.

13 ( +14 / -1 )

A big part of the racial disparity in arrests and incarceration of blacks is a by-product of the "War on Drugs".

And they were forced to deal/use drugs that they knew were illegal? If there was no "War on Drugs", all these people who are incarcerated would have stayed out of trouble and led productive lives? While I can see that keeping crack or whatever illegal makes it expensive and a temptation to make big profits, does that prevent people from looking at the risk of prison and seeing that they stand a better chance by doing something more productive? Blaming a bad life on drugs being illegal sounds like an excuse for not taking responsibility for one's own life. But this is just me. You can believe whatever you want.

There is an OVERWHELMING ratio of black men killing white people to white cops killing unarmed black men. OVERWHELMING. Where is the unrest there? Where is the media spin? Where is the outrage? Nowhere. Because this is PC America - turning into PC world. Too afraid to confront the truth, and instead, vomit excuses and scapegoats.

Hell, most blacks killed in the US, are killed by other blacks. Why are they not outraged and protesting against all the black crime leading to all those deaths of innocent black women and children, and all those incarcerations of blacks?

Think I'm a racist liar? I'm neither. Look up the facts; you'll see. Give me thumbs down if you want; but don't bury your head in the sand away from statistical truths.

Okay, I'm ready now - label me a racist. I'm white and I speak the truth, so I must be. Welcome to the new world.

There is an OVERWHELMING ratio of black men killing white people to white cops killing unarmed black men. OVERWHELMING. Where is the unrest there? Where is the media spin? Where is the outrage? Nowhere.

Facts are irrelevant in America. Spin is the rule not the exception.

Race has always played a role in media crime coverage but the emphasis has changed since the civil rights era. The racial aspects of crimes committed by minorities are downplayed by the media as opposed to those committed by whites because of institutionalized political correctness. Political correctness in the media is rationalized by the absurd notion that minorities cannot commit racially motivated crimes because it is believed that they hold no power in society. This is of course is patently false. So called 'hate crime' laws are used overwhelmingly against whites notwithstanding the fact that blacks are much more likely to commit crimes against whites instead of the reverse. Clear evidence of racial bias is routinely ignored in black on white crime because the hate crime laws were created to be used against whites.

In the years to come you can expect to see a repeat of high profile race cases like this one in Ferguson just like we have seen with the Duke Lacrosse and Trevor Martin cases. It is selective outrage to fit a politically correct media agenda. It is exasperating and counter-productive to a healthy society because it does not reflect reality in totality.

When I saw Michael Brown's step-father shouting to the crowd, "Burn this b---ch down!", just before the rioting began with his pants hanging down to his knees, all I could think was "Pants up! Don't loot!".

Oh please. This shows a complete lack of understanding about the issues that black people face in the USA. Please enlighten me? Anyone in a depressed community has a mountain to climb, it's not color! Unless you go on job interview with your underwear hanging out. I'm not saying that there are not motivational issues within many parts of the black community themselves, but the fact is that the issues/challenges faced don't only come from within the community, they also come from society at large. I may give you some credit here. I have not spent enough time in the deep south. Everywhere else, no problem unless you want to retain the 'gangsta" image.

Successful Blacks have one thing in common. The stepped away from violence and crime.

The second assumption is that all black people start off in violence and crime, then move away from it. A significant number never start in the first place. True Stangerland but were are talking about the low lifes rioting here. They feel they are victims in many experiences in life. More a paranoid issue leading to resentment.

Exactly. Glorifying the gangsta rap thug life doesn't get the nice mansion, sparkly spinning wheels, and "ho's" in reality. Unfortunately many of the kids I grew up with ended up without stable work, a bunch of baby momma's, and some wonderful criminal records that helped make their employability practically nil to any HR department especially since their parents weren't really all that helpful in the first place.

I was no clean jeans myself and I did have a few issues with the law, but I was never found with gang members, doing or dealing drugs, or doing felonious things that could land me in prison and turn me into a convict. But then again I had a good parental figure who didn't smoke, suffer from alcohol weapons, do drugs, or bring as many men as she could into the home. The rest of the parents in my neighborhood were doing exactly what my mother was not doing.

Unfortunately even if there are well off black parents, their children can still become ignorant, thug life emulators because they're still tweens~teens who can't completely equate the difference between what they see and hear in videos to the actual reality of living in and growing up in such conditions.

Some actually do have some sense in their heads that its better to stay in school and out of trouble so they can accomplish what their parent's had a hard time getting what they have, and rise to even greater heights. There is still some underlying racism in the US as far as employment and living opportunities in the US, but they're easier to overcome and point out.

In a democratic and egalitary country I do not understand why statistics about race crimes are done. A citizen is a citizen.

Statistics about crime rate based on social status would be much more relevant.

I find it very disturbing how racism is becoming more and more socially acceptable again. Whilst Ild never condone looting and rioting, the policeman shot that unarmed young man 12 times. He should at least be brought to trial and made to answer for his actions in front of a jury.

Blame the Al Sharptons of USA who profit being racist and inciting protests. Not helping acceptance in the non-Black views.

As far as the policeman shooting that unarmed young man 12 times. Your facts are incorrect. Fired 12 rounds hit 6. At close range this is an indicator of desperate gunshots as per the Grand Jury's findings. And some posters like to term the Grand Jury as a "Secret Tribunal" which by the way was 30% racially representative, has never been under such scrutiny and distrust in such a scale ever before.

Rest assured Obama and Holder are publicly noted to continue with a federal investigation. No need for the officer to defend his action in front of a jury if the Fed investigation concurs with the Grand Jury. Disregard what the news media fed you in the prior months. It was false and proved to be fabricated and lies.

More than 400 arrested as Ferguson protests spread to other U.S. cities

So, a drugged out teenager stole something from a store, assaulted a clerk, then later assaulted a cop in his vehicle and tried to kill him with his own gun. Gotta wonder which part of this chain of events they are supporting.

What they should be protesting is black leaders like Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, Eric Holder, Barack Obama, etc., who continually blame the police, white people and everything else under the sun while not doing a damn thing to address the problem.

The legislation passed by Johnson, "the war on poverty", civil rights bills in the 1960's has a direct link to whats happening in Ferguson and other parts of America. Draw a direct line of causality to this Democratic failure and the other programs that have failed miserably,

---Their would be less of a problem if as mentioned above "A citizen is a citizen" approach was there. It seems Blacks want to continue divide and constantly blame the White man. This nation went through a civil war to end slavery. This nation went through violent protests 50 years ago for racial equality. Accept it, embrace it and move on! It is a much better world for Blacks. If Brown was Asian would this have made the news?

Why the US government is suppressing the freedom of speach?

I find it very disturbing how racism is becoming more and more socially acceptable again. Whilst Ild never condone looting and rioting, the policeman shot that unarmed young man 12 times. He should at least be brought to trial and made to answer for his actions in front of a jury.

The grand jury found that their wasn't enough evidence to bring him to trial. Should he be further put through the media inquisition and be branded a racist by the race hustlers when there is no evidence to substantiate such claims? The man was doing his job and was assaulted. Thousands of law enforcement officials are assaulted every year in America. If Wilson went to trial and is found innocent - as the evidence shows he would - do you think those that have already convicted Wilson of a racially motivated murder would feel any better about it then? The Zimmerman trial tells us that they would not.

However, I do agree that racism is more acceptable now then at any time since the end of Jim Crow. Except black Americans are the beneficiaries of this racism as a matter of public policy.

In a parallel universe; The cop is indicted, jury trial, finds him guilty, death penalty. Praise The Lord!!! This is the only option that would be acceptable to those opposing the outcome as it stands.

I feel like there are many Americans that believe that it would be best for the country for Wilson to be found guilty whether he committed the crime or not. The two men that dragged a black man to death in Texas were racist killers. They were found guilty of the crime and executed. Governor Bush was still considered insensitive to blacks by many on the political Left. There is no satisfying people that do not want to accept reality. That is where things stand with Officer Wilson.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

branded a racist by the race hustlers You lost me right there - as soon as you started using whitepower shock-jock radio talkshow rhetoric.

Everyone else has to go before a jury to answer for their actions when an event such as shooting an unarmed man from a distance occurs. Being white, male and wearing a uniform should not excuse someone from having their actions fully scrutinised.

The grand jury found that their wasn't enough evidence to bring him to trial.

The precise statement is this: Four or more members of the grand jury thought the evidence was insufficient to warrant any of the charges placed before them.

The charges ranged from first degree murder to involuntary manslaughter. For every charge, all it takes is four members to produce a "no-bill." If they wanted to charge Wilson on any of them, it would have taken nine votes. That is an extremely high hurdle to overcome when a DA does not recommend charges.

So, if voluntary manslaughter received eight votes to indict and four votes not to indict, the "No's" have it. The votes are secret and jurors are prohibited by law from discussing them. Some "justice" system, eh?
