Announces agreement.

2 hours later threatens to veto agreement unless....there is also a separate agreement made with everything else that was removed in order to get the first agreement.

plus “bipartisan” doesn’t mean “democrats and Trump haters”. We need an actual bipartisan solution.

Some people just live to whine.

Rather than Biden’s proposed corporate tax hike that Republicans oppose or the gas tax increase that the president rejected, funds will be tapped from a range of sources -- without a full tally yet, according to a White House document.

Shameful that the GOP refused the corporate tax hike. They have completely sold their souls to big corporations and don't care about the american people for one second.

snd this is what “progressives” care about, not the American people.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

Comments from the leaders of the Democrat party about this exact agreement are in fact on topic.

sorry you don’t like what was said.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

don't care about the american people for one second.

Govt spending all comes from taxes payed by the American people. Only the GOP understands that corporations don't pay taxes. They pass those costs onto the final customers - the people.

Raising taxes on wealthy just makes them leave the country. There was a study in a norther European country. They raised taxes based on means and a significant number wealthy people moved to other countries. Finding the middle taxation point isn't easy. I don't recall if it was Sweden or Norway or which country did it now. Sorry.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

veto - The procedure established under the Constitution by which the president refuses to approve a bill or joint resolution and thus prevents its enactment into law.

wouidnt this also cover a refusal to sign? Yep.

Lack of signature = refusal to approve.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

After a certain period of time, the bill becomes law with or without the President’s veto. It’s called a pocket veto.

So you are factually inaccurate, Black.

And it’s called the “Democratic” Party.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Only the GOP understands that corporations don't pay taxes. They pass those costs onto the final customers - the people.

This is patently and laughably false.

Raising taxes on wealthy just makes them leave the country.

Can you tell us how many corporations were leaving america 4 years ago, before Trump lowered their tax rate?

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Breaking: no-partisan police reform as well. Joe gets stuff done.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Are there 5 more republicans that will vote yes? I’ll believe it when I see it.

Counting on the GOP to support bills that are good for the American people is always guaranteed, as is believing they negotiate in good faith, remember what they did on the ACA, argued all of their amendments in and then THEY ALL REFUSED TO VOTE FOR IT.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Raising taxes on wealthy just makes them leave the country.

So either we let the wealthy get away with not paying taxes, or we increase their taxes and they all leave? I say unpatriotic wealthy start learning a second language.

Absurd.

Since taking office the national debt under Biden has increased by less than $1 trillion.

I am surprised that CNN allowed you to believe even that clearly false lowball claim to be true. I suppose you missed the flurry of spending passed under reconciliation by Schumer and Pelosi. Your bubble is impenetrable.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

More borrowing, more printing, inflation, price rises. All this has only accelerated under Joe. How these clowns get away with this is a mystery? How they can say they care about the country and the people while ruining the first and impoverishing the second is a scandal.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

because he cant get any of the legislation to spend the money actually passed!

Since taking office the national debt under Biden has increased by less than $1 trillion.

“Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slams the lack of diversity in an all-white group of lawmakers who drafted a bipartisan infrastructure deal”

Gurantee you, by the end of the year, the streets of New York will still be ridden with potholes. Remember, the race and color are more important than the overall deal. 5% of that money will be used to fix the crumbling infrastructure? Good luck with that.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

Breaking: no-partisan police reform as well. Joe gets stuff done.

kinda low bar for saying Biden is getting things done. He wasnt even involved and nothing is even close to being done. One Republican agreed with two Democrats on a "framework".

The three chief negotiators on a police reform package announced Thursday they had reached a bipartisan agreement on the issue.

“After months of working in good faith, we have reached an agreement on a framework addressing the major issues for bipartisan police reform,” Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.), Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) said in a joint statement Thursday afternoon.

“There is still more work to be done on the final bill, and nothing is agreed to until everything is agreed to. Over the next few weeks we look forward to continuing our work toward getting a finalized proposal across the finish line.”

Posters bandy about numbers like almost 30 trillion like they are meaningless. At current economic output an[d tax take there is ZERO chance of even balancing the budget, let alone trying to pay down some of the deficit. And these number don’t begin to cover the ACTUAL level of indebtedness. So many government obligations don’t get included in these on balance sheet numbers. End of an economic era is coming.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell complained

Cry. Me. A. River.

Overall, great job by Democrats to get 10+ Republicans on board.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

IF the infrastructure plan is good for America (and I think it may be), then there is no need to tie it to another, more controversial, proposal. Let it stand or sink on its own merits. Doing so just shows how craven and political the so-called bipartisan Democrats are.

As for the rich not paying taxes, the top 1% already pay more than 40% of federal income taxes. How much more is enough? Someone for the love of God give me a concrete meaning of 'their fair share'!

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

matters not.

as Biden already said he wont sign it unless the things the 10 Republicans DONT support are included separately and sent at the same time.

Overall, great job by Democrats to get 10+ Republicans on board.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

The bar is set so low for Biden that when he trips over it and falls forward its considered a success.

He got only the anti-Trump Republicans to agree to something that he will never sign, in his own words.

His last speech-

President Biden’s topic was one of utmost importance Wednesday — crime and gun violence. But you wouldn’t know it from the way he spoke.

He slurred his words. He called the ATF “the AFT.” At one point, he talked about the history of the Second Amendment and “the blood of patriots” before concluding that someone would need nuclear weapons to take down the government. If you weren’t confused, you were horrified.

Biden was obviously tired, speaking in barely a monotone. He couldn’t pronounce “cognitive.”

Well done President Biden - showing that you can accomplish things for the American people, and not just the Top 1%...

The Dems really played the Repubs here - and have a great talking point for 2022/24;

"In 2018 the Repubs gave the Top 1% a $1.9 trillion tax break that was completely unfunded - on the nation's credit card...

Now they only want to pay for the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that fixes our roads/bridges and creates jobs by levying a tax on gas - which would affect the lower and middle class the most - and refuse to raise taxes on the rich and powerful, letting the Top 1% continue with their tax windfall...

Pretty easy to see who is on your side when you vote..."

For this infrastructure bill which means, nothing. By the way, how’s that high-speed rail doing in California?

The Dems really played the Repubs here - and have a great talking point for 2022/24;

How, it’s there bill. The only GOP leaders that signed onto this bill are the ones that are and need to worry about reelection.

"In 2018 the Repubs gave the Top 1% a $1.9 trillion tax break that was completely unfunded - on the nation's credit card...

So in other words, we don’t need the rich to prop up the economy, poor people can somehow magically do it. Who needs job creators anyway….

Hasn’t been in 40 years, but now Joe will change it? Ok, sure….lol

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Also, kudos to the Republicans who stepped up for the compromise. We know their party bothers and sisters will be stabbing them in the back shortly for the crime of actually agreeing with Democrats.

Hopefully it all gets worked out in the end. The GOP supporters get a huge win for themselves, the others in the GOP will vote against a wildly popular bill, and the Dems get what we want in 2 phases and will have a victory lap in time for 2022.

Just a masterful performance by Biden and Congressional Democrats overall.

The USA’s infrastructure has been in decline for decades.

Wasting trillions of taxpayers funds in mindless wars of choice, as well as nation building, is not the way to go.

We have wasted trillions on a client state in the Middle East since 1946 just to satisfy a religious, but ever powerful, minority.

Enough already.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

The more they print and spend the richer the top 1% get. And yet they have fooled people into thinking the opposite. The current regime is the best possible ally of the rich and famous.

This bill means nothing? Well, since its not another unfunded tax cut for the rich, I guess you'd day that...

"There" or "their"?

So in other words, we don’t need the rich to prop up the economy, poor people can somehow magically do it. Who needs job creators anyway….

In other words it was an unpaid-for tax cut for the Wall St fat cats and their rich friends...and you want to tax gas so people have to pay more to get to work? Great, campaign on that in 2022/24...

Keep running on that one - tax the lower and middle class, no taxes for the rich...that's a real winner there (not their)....

Lincolnman, the top 1% already pay 40% of federal tax. how much more should they pay? I always hear this cant from the left that the rich have to pay "their fair share" yet nobody can define it. Care to have a go?

US super-rich 'pay almost no income tax'

Lincolnman, the top 1% already pay 40% of federal tax. how much more should they pay? I always hear this cant from the left that the rich have to pay "their fair share" yet nobody can define it.

Well that's an easy one - the Top 1$ do pay 40% of all taxes in the US - but that is a deflection - the key factor is how much tax do they pay as a percentage of their individual overall wealth....

The average US lower and middle class household is 14.6%....

The rich? How about this...

For example, Carl Icahn, whom Forbes lists as the 40th-wealthiest American, has an outstanding $1.2 billion loan with Bank of America, according to ProPublica. That means he is able to "turbocharge his investment returns" and then "gets to deduct the interest from his taxes." When asked whether it was appropriate that he should pay no income tax at all — as he did in 2016 and 2017 — Icahn objected.

https://www.nbcnews.com/business/taxes/richest-americans-pay-almost-no-income-taxes-report-finds-n1270069

Icahn is worth $15 BILLION - and he paid no tax in 2016 and 17....

Care to have a go?

Absolutely - over to you...

I don't recall if it was Sweden or Norway or which country did it now. Sorry.

Sweden, Norway and Finland have some of the highest quality and living standards in the world, but their taxes are pretty high too. At least the peopkle are getting something good out of it.
