China doesn't get involved in weapons development of other countries.

For example, the most powerful conventional ballistic missile in history is ROK's(9 ton warhead), yet you don't see China protesting or trying to stop ROK from deploying it.

Likewise China remains silent to Japan's effort to develop hypersonic missiles(Japan doesn't

Well, that was easy to prove wrong....

Land-based medium range weapons threaten security of region, experts warn. The Chinese military will not sit idly and allow the United States to deploy land-based medium range missiles in Asia-Pacific countries,

It's a shame that the average person in N. Korea must suffer because Kim demands a military he does not need.

They could join the world community and bring prosperity to their country.

China doesn't get involved in weapons development of other countries.

Well, that was easy to prove wrong....

You didn't.

Hmmmm.....

The Chinese embassy's charge d'affaires, Wang Xining, said Australia would become the "naughty guy" if it procures the submarines, which are capable of stealthy, long-duration missions. Nuclear-powered submarines are designed to launch long-range attacks, Wang argued in an interview with The Guardian. "So who are you going to attack? You are no longer a peace lover, a peace defender, you become a sabre wielder in certain form," said Wang, who is China's top representative in Australia...

Eating, love, care, and empathy for its people. This dictatorship doesn't understand what's important nor how wonderful life can be.

Curiouser and curiouser. Here’s China’s chance to prove itself on the world stage, but it doesn’t do anything even on its own border.

Not really about the North Korean Missile launch, which show that they seem flush with cash if they can afford to waste so many in tests.

The comment by the Chinese about Australia getting submarines similar to those China already has itself, and saying "who are you going to attack, your no longer a peace lover" Shows that China with Nuclear powered Subs and with long range land based ballistic missiles, (Australia has none of those and no plans to develop any) is obviously not a peace loving nation and must have plans on attacking one or more nations. Pot calls Kettle black!

China needs to either disarm to prove its peaceful intentions or remain quiet on Australia exercising a sovereign right to determine what ships it needs in its navy. China meanwhile is silent on NK missile development and its plans to develop its own nuclear powered subs.

"As part of its efforts to enhance its capability to launch ballistic missiles from submarines without detection, the DPRK is pursuing the development of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines,"

China, always the hypocrite. Do as we say, not as we do. We are allowed and you are not.

n case you didn't know the ROK has the world's most powerful conventional ballistic missile in history, only North Korea protested about it.

So?

You said: "China doesn't get involved in weapons development of other countries."

I gave two examples where China criticized US Intermediate range missile deployment and Australia's acquiring nuclear-powered submarines...

So you were wrong - just admit it...

Hmmmm.....

That's China's wolf warrior diplomat speaking his personal opinion.

Who are you kidding? China's diplomats don't speak their personal opinion in public - Xi wouldn't stand for it...

He was China's Ambassador to Australia - the senior Chinese diplomat in-country...speaking to a major publication on the record...

Your statement that "China doesn't get involved in weapons development of other countries" was proven flat out incorrect....

Again, just admit your mistakes...rather than digging your hole deeper...

Looks like North Korea needs some aid so they're ramping up their saber rattling so they can later request aid as a criteria for stopping missile tests.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

I repeat, you show me where Chinese foreign ministry issued a statement opposing Australia's nuclear submarine program.

I did - three times. Chinese diplomats don't speak "on their own"....especially to major Western media outlets...if you think so you are truly uninformed...

crippling U.S.-led sanctions

seem not to be crippling after all, vis-á-vis missile tech anyway....

Little Rocket Man at it again.

Lets all hope there is an underground resistance movement that rises up and assassinates Kim and as many generals as they can get - if the US is unwilling/unable to do the favor.

Basically throwing money into the sea. Not like we should care or even try to stop them. If they want to ruin themselves, be my guest.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Only the 6th? Pfft.

Sounds like they are behind schedule.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

If North Korea isn't following international protocols of warning of missile tests -- never mind ignoring the UN -- seems like a fine opportunity to assess Japan's anti-missile systems.

Ukraine/Russia hogging the limelight.

6 launches in less than 4 weeks this year.

What is Pyongyang up to, burning lots of money away when its people are looking for enough food to eat?

Could such quality and quantity of missiles scare or thwart the west by any chance? Hardly..

ballistic missiles into the sea

into the sea, again. I think they're secretly fighing the Kaiju

@Busby

Hmmmm.....

That's China's wolf warrior diplomat speaking his personal opinion.

China hasn't officially opposed Australia having nuclear submarines; what China opposes is transfer of HEU fuel enriched higher than 20%, because all US and UK submarines use 80~90% enriched uranium and China considers such transfer a violation of NPT, while the US's claiming it didn't for propulsion purpose, but that's debatable.

China has been quiet about the ROK's nuclear submarine program because that program involves use of 20% LEU fuel and international transfer of 20% LEU fuel doesn't violate NPT.

@Busby

I gave two examples where China criticized US Intermediate range missile deployment

US intermediate range missile is the case of a 3rd country deploying its offensive weapons on China's neighbors. China does not oppose Japan developing and deploying missiles of similar capability. Yes, Japan has long range and hypersonic missile development programs. When was the last time you heard Chinese opposition to Japanese long-range hypersonic missile programs? You didn't. Why? Because it is Japan's sovereign right and China's policy is not to interfere.

and Australia's acquiring nuclear-powered submarines...

1) Show me where China's foreign ministry opposed the deal.

2) The Australian nuclear submarine program as it currently stands has NPT violation concerns.

just admit it...

It is you who needs to admit you were mistaken.

Japan unveils its hypersonic weapons plans

In a Japanese-language document published on the Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency website, the government said two classes of standoff hypersonic systems will be deployed — the Hypersonic Cruise Missile (HCM) and the Hyper Velocity Gliding Projectile (HVGP).

China's diplomats don't speak their personal opinion in public

They do. The foreign ministry is telling its diplomats to watch what they say because they are out of control.

https://thediplomat.com/2022/01/is-china-putting-wolf-warriors-on-a-leash/

Is China Putting ‘Wolf Warriors’ on a Leash?

Recent signs indicate that Beijing wants to moderate – but not abandon – the assertive tone of its diplomats.

On December 20, 2021, former Chinese ambassador to the U.S. Cui Tiankai delivered a biting keynote address to a symposium co-hosted by the China Institute of International Studies in Beijing. In front of assembled dignitaries including Wang Yi, China’s foreign minister and state councilor, Cui criticized the current state of China’s diplomacy, warning against “carelessness, laziness, and incompetence.” He admonished his fellow diplomats to “always have the country at large in mind, and not always think about being an internet celebrity.”

The comments were a thinly-veiled dig at the increasingly sharp-edged messaging emerging from China over the past several years, as its diplomats have embraced a uniquely aggressive approach now widely known as “wolf warrior” diplomacy.

Apparently, North Korea is trying to perfect the know-how of building short- / long-range cruise missiles. If North Korea had perfected that know-how it would mean the expensive U.S.-made AEGIS missile defense systems had become meaningless and useless. Russia and China are said to already possess such missiles.

Military technology seems to be progressing rapidly, especially with the advent of IA technology, making deployment of large contingents of troops in overseas bases superfluous. Thus, building an air base for a U.S. Marine Corps air squadron is nothing but nonsense.

第三 North Korea.

Eating, love, care, and empathy for its people. This dictatorship doesn't understand what's important nor how wonderful life can be.

The regime knows that without powerful offensive weapons, the life of the entire population is hanging by a thread due to the USA threat.

@The Avenger

Kim demands a military he does not need.

He does. Remember that the ROK is in top 5 in the world in terms of war fighting capability and claims all of North Korea as its own territory. North Korean military estimates they would last 1 month max if the South decided to force a unification by invasion.

The NK nuclear missiles are this deterrent against this ROK invasion.

They could join the world community and bring prosperity to their country.

And Kim could lose his little kingdom and his life if he opened up. That's why he won't/can't.

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

@Busby

Well, that was easy to prove wrong....

You didn't.

China opposes two things.

China opposes 3rd countries(ie USA) deploying weapons around its neighbors. China doesn't oppose its neighbors developing weapons by themselves. This is why China opposes US deployment of intermediate missile in Japan, but doesn't oppose Japanese development of similar capability missiles.

China opposes anybody selling weapons to Taiwan, which China considers its own territory.
