The new S.Korean President proposed approach of rekindling the sunshine policy and dialogue is the best option to deescalate the situation in the peninsula. Hot heads must cool down first for a middle path to be reached. I don't think Un is a nut job. I'm sure he's not oblivious of the precariousness of the ( his ) situation. If it were some of us, we'd already have backed down, maybe he's the kind of people with a pathological aversion to defeat/ loss of face. Commonsense calls for different approach, even temporarily.

" Hiro S Nobumasa May 21 08:35 pm JST

High time for PM Abe to be a world class top statesman .

Shinzo should follow an independent Japan first policy and go to Pyongyang and talk with Kim Jung Un.

Nobel Peace prize awaits!"

Isn't Xi Jingping supposed to have done that by now?

If you look at the achievements of neighboring former adversaries in the rest of the world as compared to East Asia, one wonders if there should be necessary a new localized term for 'diplomacy' among supposed security allies.

The only hope now is that they'll do so much tests that they'll deplete all of their supplies.

Since 1905, US invasion of Honduras(twice), Nicaragua(thrice), Haiti, Cuba(twice), Panama, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Korean Peninsula, Chile, Granada, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. Is it any wonder that NK want a nuclear deterrent? A robust nuclear deterrent is the only hope a sovereign nation can hope to avoid US aggression and maintain its sovereignty. It is time for China, NK, Iran and Russia to put an end to US aggression and expansionism.

If people stopped making such a mess out of it, simply pretending the North Korea does not exist, or even preparing the defensive measures silently without all the indecent militaristic hysteria, Kim would stop firing them. It is common sense, no reaction without the action, and... vice versa. Were they smarter, they would have broken the cycle already.

Yeah, in a fantasy world, that would work, but in the real world of geopolitics, it doesn't and wouldn't work like that.

You "real world of geopolitics" is the reason people are in predicaments here and there this age. You might want to take several looks at reality and ask yourself, what are you: a human being with compassion or a product of history of the power.

Keep that answer to yourself, though, for you will not win and we will have the world protected from being plunged into primordial chaos you are working hard towards.

Just keep moving more US weapons in the area and wait for China to tell NK to knock it off.
