If they were this diligent at the beginning of this whole mess,

instead of allowing infected people to fly all over the world, things might be different.

Now it's just overkill, making people suffer under tyranny, just because they can.

I heard an interesting take on this the other day. It could be a stress test to see how the urban populations deals with extreme duress like those they could potentially suffer if the CCP decide to invade Taiwan!

Let's hope thats not the case and they are just being their usual selves and brutalising the Chinese people in the name of ideology.

It's good everyone is telling China to stop this zero covid policy. It means the CCP definitely won't do it even though they know they should. _

5 ( +6 / -1 )

The CCP's policies do not have the best interest statement. The sole purpose of the CCP policy is for XI to be re-elected. This is a political fight. Many people died because of this.

There are tons of videos of people suffering on YouTube. The bloodier YouTube doesn't even allow uploads and is only known through videos from the Great Translation Campaign.

Glad to see the CCP shooting themselves in the foot with their dopey zero Covid policies.

I hope to see the demise of the CCP asap and this is a promising sign.

If they were this diligent at the beginning of this whole mess,

Absolutely!

From the beginning they handle this Virus in a complete mess.

They create this virus and then let it escape from their Laboratory in Wuhan.

They deported each person who has proof for that.

They destroyed all documents who proof that.

They don't give inspectors full access to data.

They still let people travel around the world and let them spread the virus around.

And now? Bringing their own population at the edge of their nerves.

Conclusion 1:

China completely failed in handling with what they create.

Conclusion 2:

China sucks!

1 ( +5 / -4 )

So China created a virus that they released on...themselves?

Created by themselves, and released by themselves or by accident.

Which cannot be verified because you said all proof is destroyed?

Maybe destroyed is the wrong word. Hiding is the better word. But I assume that also a lot of evidences were already destroyed.

Until today, China do not let anyone conduct a full investigation. They do not give fully access to their laboratories including fully access to all data and they do not let investigators talk to the correct persons.

In my opinion, China is hiding something.

China is hiding the truth behind the origin of this virus.

And I am still not convinced that this virus origin is natural.

I say, China create that virus in their laboratories and then set if free on purpose or by accident.

The CCP do not hesitate in anything!

(Best friends of Russia)

But I said that already many times here before...as long as there is no FULL investigation with FULL access to the Laboratory in Wuhan with FULL access to all data and experiments, and FULL access for the investigators to talk with ALL laboratory staff, I am not convinced that this virus is origin natural.

But that is not the topic here.

The topic here is their stupid Zero Covid Strategy.

But sometimes I am wondering why are they doing that?

Do they know AND HIDE something about the virus what the rest of the world do not know?

Or is it like AAA said?:

I heard an interesting take on this the other day. It could be a stress test to see how the urban populations deals with extreme duress like those they could potentially suffer if the CCP decide to invade Taiwan!

Or is it because the CCP is just stupid?

Who knows...

Maybe we will never know....

Given their track record thus far, way more inclined to trust them over WHO which has long since lost much credibility.

“Should we relax our vigilance, the epidemic may rebound, so it is necessary to persistently implement the prevention and control work without relaxing,” he said.

I only wish more places had this attitude from the start. Not only would we be past this whole pandemic already, but many millions more would be alive. The whole "Lockdown and then relax restrictions the second the lockdown starts working" dance has cost millions of lives.

@Monty

So China created a virus that they released on...themselves? Which cannot be verified because you said all proof is destroyed? So why would anybody believe that? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

but still can love how they fight those viruses there, exactly like it has to be done.

Me, and I guess millions of people who are living in China, and not overseas in countries with almost zero restrictions, completely disagree with that!

@Monty

Its understandable why you are so unhappy because your living in China now.

Whats not understandable why you chose to stay there considering all your conspiracy theories and disdain.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

They create this virus and then let it escape from their Laboratory in Wuhan.

When you repeat discredited conspiracy theories that are easily proved false with evidence you give an easy exit out of the real responsibilities the CCP has about the pandemic.

The terribly obvious reason why China do not let anybody investigate them is because they have never tolerated that, it is a clear show of power not matter the topic. That does not mean all the evidence that clearly points to a natural origin magically disappear, that is just an illogical step.

The main point is not about the origins of the pandemic but the clear mismanagement the CCP has cornered themselves by refusing to listen to actual scientific evidence that pointed out that the zero covid policy costs more lives and resources than what it saves when compared with the strict but realistic control other countries do. By refusing to accept their approach may be actually wrong they burned their bridges and now have no other option (since they never pushed for vaccination of the vulnerable population) but to oppress their population and try to hide the huge cost COVID has in the country.

I was so hoping you would hit the nail on the head but you didn't. The CCP are deeply fearful of being revealed as incompetent managers and public officials. I am of the opinion that a detailed investigation of the origins of Covid-19 would reveal a long list of mistakes made by Chinese officialdom, including and perhaps especially the eleven critical days early in the pandemic when CCP leadership could not make a decision about how to proceed in the face of steeply rising infections and deaths in Wuhan. The incompetence goes all the way to the top and for that to be publicly revealed would cause the Chinese to question the basic competence of the CCP as a whole. The CCP cannot afford to be seen as anything short of China's saviors, otherwise they fear they would be firmly shoved aside by an angry Chinese populace.

North Korean migrant workers in Shanghai may be wishing they were back home.

If they don't want to be prisoners serving an open-ended sentence, Chinese people need to escape the cities whilst they can. But for most of them, aside from work, their apartment - even if it becomes their prison cell - is their primary asset.

You have to wonder whether there is any discord in the CCP about Xi's Mao-style revolution by stealth, taking down sectors and cities and locking everyone up. Are they getting the embalming fluid out, or is his dictatorship absolute?

And will any areas see civil disobedience or open rebellion? Even Chinese people may have their limits.

Nobody goes through a pandemic with zero deaths unless they seal the borders and lock everyone up. But it is difficult to see a large population accepting that for an extended period of time. An Covid is unlikely to completely go away, so China will have to remain a big prison filled with little prisons for the foreseeable future.

Well, if one thing had been taught during this pandemic , then it is you shouldn’t listen to what they say or do at the WHO and better walk quite some steps into the opposite direction. You don’t have to like China , CCP or Xi , but still can love how they fight those viruses there, exactly like it has to be done.

New Zealand went through a recession during the Covid crisis;

At the very start, when the entire planet shut down. But NZ sprung right back up quickly.

Oh sorry, did you want me to not tell the actual story, and just leave your soundbite? My bad.

Only China has had a growing economy

For example, Canada, where I am right onw, had a growing economy.

Ryan gave China's death toll as just over 15,000 and the Johns Hopkins University of Medicine Coronavirus Resource center offers a figure of 14,538.

That's the total!

Lower than the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, ...

The problem with that argument is that having infections by itself is not a problem, specially if they have LESS deaths than China after the way of counting them is equalized.

But they don't. According to government statistics Australia has one of the highest infection and death rates in the world; and much higher than China as the official source below show.

Well, countries have lower death rates than China, so there is nothing to think about, it has been proved perfectly possible.

If you create false statistics, anything is true.

But let's look at the BBC; oh, one country has a lower death rate than China---Burundi!!!!

But they don't. According to government statistics Australia has one of the highest infection and death rates in the world; and much higher than China as the official source below show.

That is completely false. Why misrepresent a source that clearly disproves your point and anybody can easily check?

Australia death rate (including people with other health problems) 27.8

Asutralia death rate (counting as China does, patients with COVID as only health problem) 1.06

New zealand the same 13.2 that becomes 0.8

China already has a death rate of 1.0 and the outbreaks are multiplying instead of decreasing. a difference of 0.6 is not "much higher" as you mistakenly thought. And New Zealand has an even lower death rate!

So, your own source clearly proves China's policy is worse than other countries (even before counting the extra deaths product of the policy and independent from COVID).

Also, Micronesia, Vatican, Marshall Islands, Burundi, etc. Have lower deaths rates even before adjusting the reporting to the Chinese way, Generally speaking any of the dozens of countries with a report of death rate below 15.0 is very likely to surpass China if they reported in the same way.

It is easy to say that if you are not living there and if you are not directly personally affected from that.

Is a WHO team of scientists and analysts on the ground?

Fact not conspiracy theories and speculation.

The Government of China is locking itself down.

Why?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

“When we talk about the ‘zero-COVID,' we don’t think that it’s sustainable, considering the behavior of the virus now and what we anticipate in the future," Tedros said at a news briefing Tuesday.

Does the WHO think any country's approach is sustainable enough to keep covid infections and related deaths as low as China?

Obviously not, or else they would have mentioned one.

New Zealand and Australia were on the right track following China's zero covid policy but now those countries have some of the highest infection rates in the world.

New Zealand went through a recession during the Covid crisis; China had positive growth the whole time.

Only China has had a growing economy and the lowest rate of infections during this period so the WHO is trying to make excuses why it has not come up with a better plan.

If you left actual facts or data that conflicts with the fact that New Zealand has a high infection rate.

You didn't.

Oh, my bad. (waiting for you to use the word "binary").

I am of the opinion that a detailed investigation of the origins of Covid-19 would reveal a long list of mistakes made by Chinese officialdom,

That is also very much true, but contrary to the origin of the virus it can be much more easily hidden, any serious investigation could find obvious manipulation and missing information instead of clear proof of the mismanagement.

Does the WHO think any country's approach is sustainable enough to keep covid infections and related deaths as low as China?

Well, countries have lower death rates than China, so there is nothing to think about, it has been proved perfectly possible.

The problem with that argument is that having infections by itself is not a problem, specially if they have LESS deaths than China after the way of counting them is equalized. That would mean that the opposite of your opinion can be proved, their approach is now much better than China's. Specially when the recession you tried to use as an argument was a direct consequence of the zero covid policy and was reverted after abandoning it. China growth on the other hand keeps shrinking.
