Seems pretty logical to me. A cop doesn't roll through gangland without a bulletproof vest on. If a woman knows that she's about to enter a packed train full of horny male commuters with wandering hands, she can suit up or risk being shot.

To be fair, though, the subway company should also've made a poster of a train groper with his hands cut off-- ala Tokyo Gore Police or something.

Hahaha, China is once again right on human rights!

Lostrune, it's not about civil rights, but self-protection. Would you pull out your wallet on the crowded train and start counting your money for all to see, or flash your bling Rolex on the streets of Harlem(or any inner city) and be shocked when robbed? Really?

That's their choice. If they want to wear those kind of clothes, so be it. Let them experience the groping consequences. Those women deserved it anyway for tempting the perverts har...har...har...

This is a real problem. Of course, people should keep their hands to themselves unless their with their partner. If everyone could do that, we may even be allowed to walk around in our birthday suits in summer instead sweating in our suits. However, sadly, gropers will be gropers.

I think most women do dress properly and when groped are honestly violated. But those that wear see-through or overly revealing clothes seem to be wanting the attention. I don't think any women would dress that way because it is comfortable...unless they are in constand need of attention to make them feel relaxed. I don't think they are wanting to be touched but are surely aware what reaction their appearance may ellicit. Since the public transport system wants to lessen the chances of wandering hand syndrom, I can see why they are attacking the less than appropriately dressed women.

JT does it again! No pictures???

Why complain about the way women dress? If the gropers can't keep their mitts off women then lock the buggers up... Is self-control really that difficult? Sorry, but as far as I'm concerned women should be able to wear what they want without some slug trying to cop a feel.

many expressing outrage and criticizing the subway operator for “sexist” remarks.

so right.. what about a poster warning men not to wear revealing clothes to avoid being groped!!! >:-(

Rather than warning the women about the evils of revealing clothes the authorities should be warning men to keep their hands to themselves. Scantily clad women may well attract more attention but an advert is only an invitation to treat, not permission.

@SwissToni

I agree, but it's quite obvious that if one dresses provocatively, there will be more attention. Risk increases. Doesn't excuse people who do it, they're scum, but it's less likely if they don't dress that way. It would be better if this wasn't an issue and women could dress how they wanted without this being a risk.

A subway operator in the Chinese metropolis of Shanghai has caused uproar

Uproar huh? Was this uproar in China, or in the minds of ultra-feminists outside of China I wonder?

Its amazing how a simple piece of advice for one's own protection gets turned into a rude sexist comment. Some people just HATE reality. Any woman so angry about the advice, should indeed go out and reap what she sows.

I would be happy to let them go get their reward if not for one thing: provocative dress stimulates men even after that woman has left the train. Then some get ideas about other women who are dressed more sensibly.

women, have some self-respect!”

I really don't understand what self respect has to do with this. If anything, self-respect is why women dress so provocatively in the first place! The problem is not self respect, but one of respect for others. Men are the approachers and the protagonists, and are the ones required to exercise restraint of their natural urges, and women should respect their position and difficulties enough to not go out an public and ruthlessly yank their chains.

It is the criminals who accost other people who need to learn self respect. There is no excuse for accosting others. None at all.

Yeah, as if only scantily-clad women get raped. I think studies show that rapists often target dull-clothed victims.

Rapists don't target confident women, they target insecure and vulnerable women. So since scantily-clad women are often confident, they are not targeted by rapists.
