13,500 killed in gang violence since Calderon came to power? That's a figure I find hard to believe. Why aren't there more calls for a comprehensive ban on guns.Maybe more pressure from international groups can convince Mexicans they don't need guns to protect themselves.

because Mexico is a lost cause. rules don't apply, police and govt all corrupt, gun control would be a total waste of time there. you know this

This is destroying Mexico. How much longer can they continue like this?

Mexico is well on it's way to becoming a failed state. Police are too corrupt or scared to do anything. Mexico's cross to bear is that it's right next to the largest drug market in the world and provides a perfect staging point for importation from the rest of South America. Three cheers for the war on drugs.

Sinaloa is the coutryside of Mexico, and the women from there make outstanding wifes. Mexico has to step up more troops to get control, 13,500 deaths are just the begining. Major drug lords reside there, I heard of them taking over cities, killing and running out the Cops. This is an honor and noble war for the Mexican government. They should continue to roll out the tanks, and storm the drug compounds. Hope they win!

13,500 dead in 3 years is astonishing. How sad is it when a person is safer on the front line in Iraq than attending a party in Mexico. Without absolute military intervention, which won't happen, Mexico is lost. Or is already.

I do not want to remind our fellow JT bloggers, but I will, in MEXICO, GUNS, GUN SALES, RIFLES, MACHINE GUNS ETC...are ALL 100% ILLEGAL! Why so many guns in Mexico? The USA is the No.1 provider of all of these illegal weapons to the mafias in Mexico. The Mexican police and Mexican Army now are being out gunned by gun runners in the USA. All along the Mexico USA border on the USA side, it is full of LEGAL gun shops, they are making money hand over fist, while their Mexican customers are killing each other night and day. Even President Obama knows about this situation and has sent the FBI, etc..to the border state areas to try to stem the tide of all of the American weapons into Mexico. Where do the Mexican mafias get so much money? From selling drugs to Americans and then they need better guns to protect their business, right? RIP Mexican kids in the state of Sinaloa. The NRA says guns do not kill people, that only people kill people? What a joke! I am sure that those NRA lovers are loving this, making lots of money from Mexicans and getting them to kill each other too! The great benefits of unbridled capitalism?

Hah ! Marijuana, crack cocain, heroin etc are also illegal in the USA, and they are vastly supplied by Mexican drug cartels. So what's your point elbuda ? You might find a more sympathetic ear if you approach the story from a gun lobbyists point of view. It's exactly the reason that guns are illegal in Mexico that is fueling this vast expanse of violence.

Yeah, more guns- that's obviously the solution.

Actually, I think the common law abiding Mexicans should start taking up arms themselves. If the government can't protect them, then I believe its time to take matters in their own hands. Not only do the common people have to fear the drug gangs, they also got to fear the police. Its time to take matters into their own hands.

I'm conflicted. We need to stop the flow of guns into Mexico but I wouldnt go as far as demanding a wall, for the obvious reasons.

elbudamexico: The USA is the No.1 provider of all of these illegal weapons to the mafias in Mexico.

...and just where did you get that source of information from?

Look, it's not America's job to save Mexicans from themselves. I support Obama is in assistance with the drug problem, I support the recent talks trying to stem the flow of weapons from the US into Mexico, I support all of that because the US and Mexico are intertwined with this problem. But you're just whining and pointing fingers north of the border and mostly just wasting everyone's time.

Guns are a legal constitutionally protected product in the USA for US citizens, not for Mexicans who bring them south for blood money.
