My grandfather's brother was with Patton's division, which liberated a few of the camps. One camp contained nearly 2000 Christian priests and pastors among the other prisoners (those who had survived). Other camps contained mainly political prisoners. People often forget that the Nazis targeted many groups for internment and extermination. Hitler had dissolved all christian associations, and the cross and other religious symbols were banned, those on churches, catholic or protestant, were required to be replaced by swastikas. National Socialism was the official religion, and Hitler was it's god.
