"Initial indications are that this was not hostile fire"

Was it friendly fire then? @.@

RIP to the soldiers.

more likely pilot error or a mechanical. RIP. so sad seeing young people dying along way away from loved ones.

indicating the incident was not believed to be the result of enemy fire.

That is the standard statement until some proof comes out (thank you wikileaks) that it was in fact, enemy fire. I believe they did the same with the Chinook that got shot down. And mind you, I am not blaming the press. I am blaming the military and its bullcrap press releases designed to make the public think all is well in Afghanistan. And somehow, despite 10 years there, some people do believe all is well. Sometimes I think that with people insisting on being that dumb, I should just join the party and get rich too. Nah. I couldn't look myself in the mirror if I had all that blood on my hands.

I flew in the 53s in Helmand province a few times... really strong bird but man they leaked a lot of hydraulic fluid! Don't sit underneat the engine bay or you will take a shower!! Wouldn't surprise me if it was technical failure!!

Two more years before all U.S. troops are out of Afghanistan, right?
