Well, they went after a soldiers family... and last time I checked you don't want to start a family feud by spilling all their relatives blood. I'm pretty sure they're big on revenge, and these drug cartels are going to be wiped out the cruel, harsh, and unforgiving way. If the mexican navy starts using aircraft, tanks, and other heavy military equipment I'm pretty sure the cartels are going to go down much harder and much much faster.

addiction is irrational logic = goto YouTube and watch any Meth Intervention video = these addicts have a very hard time stopping until almost everything is lost.

Still I think legalizing it and taxing it sufficiently to support user groups would be the best solution. =You must declare your addiction and join a group before you are able to buy.

-I guess legalizing drugs in Mexico doesn't work.

Heroin and Cocaine over the counter? Meth from Wallmart? Oh right, it must only be about marijuana. No, numbskull, as I`ve tried to point out before, there is more lucrative deals made other than pot. Taking away the least cash crop for these cartels will stop nothing. Take netreks advise and look up data from the FBI and DEA. Rather than feed the supply, how about seek to cure the demand. Only then will the supply be worth nothing. In the meantime, bomb them into oblivion...

I say the Mexican Armed Forces should use these drug lords families for target practice as well as any of their personal property. Bomb them to oblivion. Go in and arrest any that are still standing or crawling. Show the cartels that not only they can play hardball.

netrek: There is a HUGE causal link between drugs and crime.

I would say its only huge where recreational drugs are illegal. This sort of crime in Mexico would taper off if the drugs were available over the counter without a prescription and at reasonable rates.

It might be replaced by more petty crime, but it seems a good trade-off to me.

yes; right over the american border . the situation ignored by usa's government . guns and drugs indirectly funded by america . much more important to invade iraq . thanks heir donald rumsfeld .

"Ironically, all this will do is teach the marines to shoot more people and take fewer prisoners in their next raids." I don't see any down side to that.

There is a HUGE causal link between drugs and crime. Check out FBI and DEA crime statistics. Most people don't realize it though. In my county the district attorney says that 90% of all violent crime here involves drugs in some way.

Whatever, next youre probably going to try and say the single biggest determiner of crime in America is the "ethnic makeup" of the community you live in.

seijichuudo9sha I hope that last comment was sarcastic. There is a HUGE causal link between drugs and crime. Check out FBI and DEA crime statistics. Most people don't realize it though. In my county the district attorney says that 90% of all violent crime here involves drugs in some way.

'The drugs aren't the problem, it's executing thousands of innocent people that's the problem.'

Thats more like it.Glad to see I'm not the only progressive who realizes there is NO link between drugs and crime.

Whats next with the war-mongers here? IS America supposed to invade Canada to halt the marijuana business that is british Columbia's largest cash crop?

BTW Altria you must not know the first thing about Mexico if you think they'd let a single US soldier step on their soil. It's extremely taboo, and ironically the same reason Osama bin Ladin used to justify 911 (troops in Saudi Arabia). Needless to say, even Bush withdrew troops from Saudi Arabia after 911.

"Shame on Obama - why is he sending troops to Afghanistan when this is going on right next door."

Altria: Shame on Obama - why is he sending troops to Afghanistan when this is going on right next door.

So what do you suggest? You do realize that Mexicans have pride and don't want handouts from Uncle Sam? Oh, yeah, I know they NEED the handouts. But pride does not work that way.

What Mexico needs is a patriotic man making patriotic speaches with the balls to declare martial law and make several harsh new rules for dealing with drug dealers, including bombing their luxury villas from the air and rounding up their families.

I wish Hillary would step forward and blame it on us in America.

Shame on Obama - why is he sending troops to Afghanistan when this is going on right next door. These drug gangs are worse than the Taliban and need to be hunted down with deadly force.

I hope this unites Mexicans in their determination not to be intimidated by criminals. If the criminals succeed then Mexico is headed down a long dark path that will make it a very bad shithole. I can see the US invading to help out if it continues down this road. Kill those drug cartels and don't be intimidated. Blood will be spilled but it' better to have it spilled in a fight than in submission.

Its like Afghanistan.

Looks like the government messed up by publishing the name of this marine. A very sad day indeed.

This is so sad... I'm from Mexico and looks like the battle against drug lords is never going to finish. I recognize that Felipe Calderon has been one of the Presidents that really has fought face to face with drug traffickers but we have to stop and think that violence only causes more violence. I would increment more education and jobs for our people so mexican people wouldn't have to consume drugs neither need to work for drug lords.
