What could have happened to Snowden (but didn't):

There are a few possible scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: Snowden goes through "official channels" to blow the whistle on the NSA spying on US citizens and the politicians and diplomats of other countries.

RESULT: Probably nothing. At least nothing visible. The reports would be filed in the "round file" and Snowden given psychiatric "help" as he is obviously insane.

SCENARIO TWO: Snowden gets his reports published somehow and remains in the U.S.A. to take what comes.

RESULT A: A tragic car accident: http://rt.com/usa/hastings-dies-crash-suspicions-020/

RESULT B: Snowden is under lock and key, in solitary confinement like Mannings for several years, while the government very, very slowly gets its case together.

As it is, he is alive and kicking.

He is not a coward.

He is very sensible.

I reiterate, we need many, many more Snowdens.

I find it funny that its not so much other countries that we have to worry about destroying the US, but our very own citizens that will destroy us from the inside out. I wonder how many Brits, Aussies, and Canadians would be willing to do the same. Oh wait, they might actually have thought out the consequences if they did.

Sorry, right back at you. Personally, I do wish the absolute worse for him. You say, the US is to blame, hardly. If he WERE an actual hero, why run, WHY? A hero would NEVER run. Liberals in typical fashion will dismiss it and give 1000 different excuses as to why it's ok from him to be cowardly and flee. He doesn't even fit the description as a true whistler blower, but him putting men and women around the world that are operating covertly and compromising their safety is reckless, thoughtless and the man has already blood on his hands. A coward all the way. If something happened to him... Well, I wouldn't shed a tear, quite the opposite.

Saint Petersburg is a beautiful city, historical, great nightlife and some of the most stunning women I've seen anywhere. Best of luck to the lad and he deserves to have his whistle blown.

@Fredster Since when has Russia ever needed the US? Relations between the two nations have been strained since the Cold War. They're relatively stable for the time being, but that won't last. It was Russia who was needed to bring affirmative action to Syria, and they did not help out initially. It took several diplomatic discussions before Russia agreed that Syria's Sarin Gas stockpile needed to be removed and destroyed. I highly doubt Russia will ever need the US for anything. They've managed quite well so far, and I don't see that being any different any time soon.

Also, Karma? I didn't think anyone actually believed in that. I know I certainly don't. If Karma was real, then it owes me an extensive debt. And what explanation can be given for everyone (barely) living in Third World Countries? Where is Karma for them? Where is the Karma for victims of abuse and rape? Where is the Karma for the families of those killed by terrorists, extremists and general scum?

Now to defend him in a way I guess, I understand what he has done, and I am against the US hiding the fact that they are spying on our communications. I am not against the spying part though. I have nothing to hide, they can spy on my comms, JR can track my IC card, I honestly dont care as long as it makes the world a safer place. I am against hiding everything from everyone though.

Be careful, VKontakte, not to trust him too much. Social networks, after all, spy on their users so they know how to target their ads. If he's willing to leak a government, he'd be easier to leak a business.

I feel sorry for Edward Snowden. He's lost his freedom and his dancer-acrobat girlfriend. Plus he's charged with huge, grave damage to U.S. national security, while being applauded by the arguably worst president in U.S. history, Jimmy Carter.

The Russians better hope that Snowden is not a planned plant.

So much for Snowden's "visa-enabling condition" to the Russian Government that he would be welcomed only if he stopped leaking classified and potentially damaging intelligence information...

Karma's a bitch me thinks - for the US, for Snowden and also for Russia for enabling this situation to proliferate while they chuckle for the chaos being witnessed...

It will be interesting to see what goes down the next time Russia needs the USA to take sides with them....

How many people hid Jews from the Nazis then had to run and hide themselves? The end of the Vietnam War was one big American retreat. MacArthur ran from the Philippines. Malala Yousufzai ran to Britian. Thomas Jefferson fled Richmond to avoid capture by the British. And then there is Edward Snowden.

Not likely, were he NOT a coward and as I said, numerous of times, went through the proper channels, lawyered up, the spotlight on him would have been huge, he could have stood for something, but he pissed it away, damaged his country, fled like the coward he is. And we need more stringent laws that clearly state that a person that engages in espionage, passing secrets, hurting national security can risk life in prison or anything that is harsh to show these people for one that they cannot violate their contract without severe consequences.

Bertie, Sorry buddy, you once again didn't read correctly, so let me reiterate my point again, so that is no confusion as to where it stands on what Snowden is: he is a coward, a thief, a traitor, he should be tried and locked up, personally, I think he should go to Guantanamo, but hey...
