Spending the rest of their lives behind bars will make anyone wish they were dead especially if they are young.

A firing squad? Really? Let me check... yes, 2024. Why not strap him to a canon barrel or march him through a minefield?
Yes, he deserves capital punishment, but a firing squad?
bass4funk
But I don't have to pay more, that is what I am more concerned about, so NO get rid of them and be done with it, the best solution for everyone.
Either way matters not, I just don't want them to have any peace or tranquility whatsoever.

Jesus’s teachings also include loving your enemies. So you can go and love Xi Jinping and the CPC now.
bass4funk
Not in the US in some states.
You don't either, that is why my state has it and it won't go away anytime soon. We are happy with it.
Yes
That is like saying, that killing mosquitos doesn't work because more will come, interesting analogy. Don't see them stopping to make insect repellant.
quercetum
Then they should be put out of their misery of life imprisonment. Why is solitary confinement not a form of torture?
It is a form of torture, just for the passive aggressive types.
TaiwanIsNotChina
The blood for blood crowd don't stop to ask questions. The barbarism of China, Iran, and certain US states should be put to death.

It is illegal and against human rights to inflict unnecessary punishment and torture on anyone, including death row inmates.
You don’t get to decide how your tax dollars are spent.
I have opposed all forms of capital punishment and executions for more than 50 years.
You already know that one.
During those years I have never read any material to change my mind. It does not stop people from killing and murdering others even if the executed can no longer do it.
quercetum
Look up negligent homicide, manslaughter and first degree murder. They’re not the same.
This way of arguing by lumping all in one should be put to death.
TaiwanIsNotChina
But we've already told you, you don't get that money back. If your really want to save money on prisoners, make guns harder to get.
Not that I condone your torture plan, but offering them lethal injection is by far the easy way out from that.
TaiwanIsNotChina
So execute the survivors of car accidents?
Toblerone
Blood for blood.
bass4funk
Naw, just execute them and be done with it. I can use my tax dollars for something worth spending on. But if there would be no other way (frightening) then at the very least deprive them of everything, just give them a slice of bread a day and a cup of water, in a blackened room in solitary confinement 23 hours a day, and a shower once a month, that is it, that is all.
I see.
Well, I always believed in it and always supported it, and wish we could push for more by shortening their appeals process time.
TaiwanIsNotChina
They deserved to rot in their cell with crappy literature and no internet.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Because the law isn't about revenge. Civilized states understand this. If you keep them alive you have the opportunity to correct injustice later, too.
Imprisonment is imprisonment. It's not final until the day you die. I agree that all prisoners should be given a way "out" but that is a separate conversation.
quercetum
Deterrence is not black and white as you seem to make it out to be. The argument that there are still murders and capital crimes in societies that administer death penalties does not negate the effect of deterrence.
It would be like saying there is still trash in cities that place trash cans in public areas, therefore, trash cans do NOT REDUCE littering.
konjo4u
If they were offering lethal injection as "putting them to sleep" they might sell it. Instead, it has to be sick. If you want them to suffer, life in prison cannot be beat.

Reciprocity. You can choose to reduce the pain in the executions but to begin with, why should it be painless?
And why assume the psychological pain of life imprisonment is less than the pain of physical capital punishment?
Is it not barbaric to torture psychologically a human being by placing them in solitary confinement?
Some dude
Unofficially poisoning them so they die of "heart conditions" is still the death penalty.
Now, be fair. They also have Execution by Window, Execution by Polonium Tea, and Likely Execution By Being Drafted To Go Fight In Ukraine.
bass4funk
The crimes they committed gave them that sentence or do you think Dahmer and Bundy deserved less?
Not necessarily, depending on how the decapitation is done.

bass4funk
The electric chair is more barbaric than a beheading which is instant dead.
wallace
bass4funk
Capital punishment is barbaric by any method but the electric chair frying a man's brains is the most. Thank goodness more and more countries, I think about 118 have abolished it.
Still barbaric.

Russia doesn't have capital punishment yet they get transparently lectured ad nauseam by the moral trumpet carrying brigade.
WoodyLee
Even the state of Israel does not carry out the death penalty, Most civilized nations and societies don't for the simple fact that it does NOT DETER .

People confess to anything when under pressure or tortured or starved or deprived of their basic survival needs, happened many time before, happening as we speak, will continue to happen for as long as Devils live among us.
Once we take someone's life there is no going back.
So many time we have put people behind bars for so long, tortured them, and even killed them or they die while in captivity only to find out they were INNOCENT.
The forces of Evil never seem to stop controlling the devils among us.
Cephus
"South Carolina prison director says electric chair, firing squad and lethal injection ready to go."
27 years later, after providing Owen with everything for free. Now the Corrections Director, is bragging with his three methods of execution. Plain pathetic!!
bass4funk
Nine states in the US use it.
I think that some of the crimes that these people commit are barbaric, and what do you want to do with people like that? Spare them? Show mercy and take care of them through taxpayer money until they are deceased? I'm sorry, I don't want that. If they do the crime, they should do the time, the sentence should match the crime they committed.
Wasabi
Barbaric! As human, it show how evolve we are.
We want to visit Mars but we also are still using middle age "justice".
Toblerone
Time to fire up Old Sparky again!

And they are all barbarous, particularly in proportion to the numbers executed.

The far right is fiscally responsible except when it comes to killing people, then the paycheck is blank.
Toblerone
That's not what the actual numbers stated by the actual people who actually know what they're talking about actually say.
Who cares? It’s money well spent sending scumbags like this to hell.

You left out this:
Less than 15% of Americans. As I said:
Yubaru
Dont forget to send the electric bill or bill them for the drugs, if he chooses one of those methods.
bass4funk
No, I just think criminals like this thug should not take up time and space in our society and pay the ultimate price, that simple.
u_s__reamer
Execution = state murder. And there are much bigger American mass-murderers who funnily never fail to fly under the radar of folks with cognitive dissonance.

I disagree it is way cheaper to execute someone and as Jesus was peaceful as was MLK, but I'm more of a Malcolm X believer and being militant.
quercetum
This is one area China, Iran and the US States that administer executions see eye to eye on: an eye for an eye, miscarriages of justice aside.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Except its not cheaper and it is against the teachings of Jesus.
dagon
Why not?
It is not like every other aspect of the massive US carceral is monetized.
https://news.law.fordham.edu/jcfl/2018/12/09/the-american-prison-system-its-just-business/
Of course innocent people are never caught up in this system.

Bill his family for the ammunition fees !

I actually thought that was an Onion headline for a moment.

Can they double up the methods?
Maybe zap him and then shoot him?

Yeah, sounds like the kind of guy that deserves a bed, 3 meals and a warm shower every day.

I agree that there is less burden on the taxpayer, and everything seems fine to me.

Scumbag deserves all three.
