Yoon did just that, taking a mic and belting out the first stanzas of the song, in English and in tune, while an astounded Biden and a delighted crowd, including actor Angelina Jolie, looked on.

"Something touched me deep inside, the day the music died," he finished, sparking a standing ovation and loud applause from the audience and the Broadway singers, who were still on stage.

And the world feels warm, comforting in a safe space tonight.

Well tomorrow there are threats of a Beatles medley.

Who needs nuclear weapons?

Very impressive and my I suggest expensive guitar

Bye Bye Miss American Pie,

Drove my Kia to the levee but the levee was dry,

Good old boys were drinking soju and sikhye,

Singing this will be the day that I die,

This will be the day that I die

What's the guitar? I don't recognise it. I know some guitars like early Ovations were Glen Campbell's and made by his mom (by hand).

I have to say, so impressed with Yoon, made up with Japan, stands with USA, no ifs, no buts, and knows how handle rocket man too. A breath of fresh air compared to the last guy.

Sh1mon M4sada, the guitar appears to be a Gibson, according to the headstock at least.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

A signed Gibson. That’s a whole lot better than a slice of chocolate cake.

True enough, Bob. Who downvoted me???

2 people apparently. Must be your reputation.

I'm liking President Yoon more and more. I hope he goes down in SK history as the leader who turned his country around towards the right direction.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Bob Fosse thank you, I thought as much,

Ossan

Agree. He's doing really well so far. A complete breath of fresh air and no doubt the younger ones in SK will really support him. He also won't take NK's bs and that is good, too.

President Yoon : the first likeable South Korean leader. Ever. I really like the guy. A breath of fresh air and - amazingly - not presenting Koreans as people with a victim complex. Yoon is getting things done.

Great movie!

The Marine Band Leader in the back has so much stuff on his chest he looks like a North Korean General.

Like Koizumi's Elvis

Looking forward to reactions from Nkorean media like Hankyoreh

You don’t know what you’re looking forward to …nuclear war .

The most strategic contribution Yoon can offer is not singing American Pie but to be a thorn in North Korea and China’s side.

Korea has the best position to counter China. It’s not the singing, instead Yoon can allow US to dock its subs in Korea.

Korea can allow the US to dock nuclear subs, not a nuclear powered sub, but nuclear ballistic subs, in Korea, Doing so would be a deterrence to both North Korea and Beijing.

It would only be minutes before missiles reach Beijing. The downside of course would be nuclear proliferation and mutual assured destruction but if you believe in deterrence, then Yoon should do that for the US.

If this happens expect more more missile from North Korea to fly.

Little kim in NK has no idea what he is missing, may be someday he might change his mind and join the festivity or just give up..

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Yes, Bob. I know my opinions are too conservative for most of the readership of JT, but one would have thought my comments about the make of a guitar were pretty unpolitical and uncontroversial! Music brings people together...NOT.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

What's the guitar?

Gibson J-35 Faded 30s. 220,000 yen.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

One thing we do know Biden didn't join in on the sing a long because he forgot the words! LOL he just mumbled!

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Biden told Yoon he had "no damn idea" he could sing, and then presented him with a guitar signed by Don McLean, who wrote the song.

While a positive gesture, this just shows that it was completely scripted and briefed. Right down to the “surprised” Angelina Jolie who, guess what; is a professional actor…

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Yeah how amazing is that for an “impromptu” performance?

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Hope he didn't sing the whole song. That is one long, boring tune. I liked when Koizumi did Elvis, personally.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Yeah how amazing is that for an “impromptu” performance?

Do you have to rain on everything? If Biden hadn’t been involved you’d be pumping tiny fists a la YMCA

I’ve had 10 people downvote a post or a word definition from the dictionary.

You just don’t get it, do you?

Yes, Bob. I know my opinions are too conservative for most of the readership of JT

That must be why people downvote you.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Yeah how amazing is that for an “impromptu” performance?

If I, or any other amateur wrote the screenplay for this “impromptu” event, we would have at least presented the guitar first, and then had Biden say something like “I heard you were a fan, I hope you like this.” Then start the performance.

These kinds of displays of friendship to the media are always highly scripted and planned meticulously (a signed guitar from Don McLean is not something you can run to 7/11 to buy in a pinch). I can’t believe they couldn’t think of a way to make it even half convincing.

Liberals downvote everything like it actually matters.

im not a liberal, yes a downvote doesnt matter, just like your post.

you know what does matter Trumps poll numbers, near record lows with all major polls. LOL

Thats what happens when one is consistently objectively wrong on the issues and facts. Go figure.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Beautiful!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Two downvotes for accurately identifying the guitar. Odd people here - wonder what motivates them?
