South Korea reported more than 400,000 new coronavirus cases Wednesday, a new record, as the country continues to ease restrictions despite the Omicron-fueled wave of infections.

A country tacitly admitting not a single restriction was anything but useless in the past 2 years.

They get it.

A country tacitly admitting not a single restriction was anything but useless in the past 2 years.

Or, simply acknowledging the game has changed with omicron.

The vast majority of South Korea's eligible population has been vaccinated and boosted, and despite the record number of infections in the country of 52 million people, death rates remain very low.

This is the important part.

*death rates remain very low. ***This is the important part.**

vaccinations and the omicron variant has bascially made the covid a super flu.

which is what we should have been aiming for all along, all pandemics diminish eventually, most important part is how many lives in can save

FWIW, the moving 3-day average is 248. So it's debatable if it's very low. Probably one of the top killers in the country.

nope as a county their deaths per capita are doing far better than most

Health authorities said 400,741 cases were recorded, the country's highest daily figure since the pandemic began two years ago.

The contrast with Japan is stark. As well as with the record number of deaths. What could be the significant factors differentiating the two neighbors??....

Only if by "basically" you mean "not even close". Else anything and everything would be also one.

The aim has been always the same, limit the cost in lives until the risk from COVID becomes undistinguisable from background levels, something that is obviously not happening yet. Eventually it will, the important part is to have the least amount of people dying before that point.

This does absolutely nothing to refute the point you are quoting, having 248 deaths a day from one single case even when measures are still in place can be characterized as high without problem, specially because they are expected to increase much more since the increase of deaths lags behind the increase of cases.

Because Koreans share one big plate and pot at dinner isn't it?

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

The number of death in Japan on last five days was: 163/169/125/108/180

The number of death in Korea on last three days was: 200/193/164

Based on this datas, we can assume that the number of test will not help the number of deaths decrease. I'm not against testing everyone, but what we are looking for is, ways to decrease the number of deaths or make the number of deaths be ZERO.

Ive got the solution.

Nobody get out of bed for the next two weeks to flatten the curve.

The election was probably the cause of this whole rise. I wouldn't call their death count low considering it's around 200 every day now, but i guess if you keep seeing that number, eventually you will get use to it. If it was two years ago, just the having a dozen death would have shock the whole nation.

I also feel sad here about our own deaths. Just these 2-3 months alone, we lost more than 6000 people to it. It's still a lot. Is almost like we have grow numb to all the losses during these 2 years. I pray this is truly the last wave we have to suffer before things get better.

You see? relaxed the rules, and now a record count. And with a record high, there won't be staff to work the companies complaining about a few restrictions.

They "relaxed the rules" that haven't worked anywhere in over 2 years.

Tey should just adopt Japan's strategy...there msut be pllen allergies in South Korea?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Difficult to believe they are even able to test that many people effectively.

The expert and the data they use to investigate the pandemic clearly contradict you, do you have evidence necessary to support your belief? or is this based only on your personal authority?

The expert and the data they use to investigate the pandemic clearly contradict you,

On the contrary, they disprove you and totally so.

The proof is in the pudding. 2 years of complete and total incompetence. They are walking back all of their disastrous policies by the day and hoping no one notices.

But we do.

They "relaxed the rules" that haven't worked anywhere in over 2 years.

And yet counties that took proper actions against covid had low numbers, while countries like America that failed in their covid response everywhere, had massive numbers of deaths.

Oh sorry, did you want us to believe your rhetoric and pretend reality wasn't real? My bad, there I go being all rude destroying people's narratives again with my mic drop. Very rude of me to expose these people as not having the intelligence to apply critical thinking to something that is so clear to see to anyone with at least average intelligence.

Really? Where are you getting this information? You sure seem secretive about your sources, even though they're supposedly "overwhelming".

What kind of person claims to be overwhelmingly correct, while having an overwhelming absence of anything to support their claims? It would seem to be an overwhelming lack of intelligence.

I thought most South Koreans are fully vaxxed.

Painkiller...

I thought most South Koreans are fully vaxxed.

They are, that's why they are not filling the ICUs and coffins.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

The vaccination rate is above 90% and boost rate is above 60%, so it's time to open up economy.

Seems like they went overboard the last two years then.

Yeah, what are they waiting for?

" Nobody get out of bed for the next two weeks to flatten the curve."

This actually WAS the point of staying away from others in the beginning, and would have worked if EVERYONE cooperated. But too many "Nobody tells me what to do" stubborn people wouldn't stay home or wear masks. The numbers of people afraid of the vaccine are just a mystery. Science is bad at marketing itself.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

The proof is in the pudding. 2 years of complete and total incompetence. They are walking back all of their disastrous policies by the day and hoping no one notices.

That would prove the opposite, if for 2 years the measures were extrmely efficient, enough to prevent the current disaster then it becomes solid evidence for their efficacy, if their application was lukewarm against omicron it becomes clear they needed stricter application that was not done for a variety of reasons (valid and invalid) but the value of the measures has been proved above any reasonable doubt.

Of course you could prove this wrong by providing a reference where a recognized institution of experts on science or medicine say the measures have no value. If you can't that means your personal opinion is not supported by them.

And it worked in countries where people did, like NZ, Australia and Canada.

I don't think someone is up on his current events.
