Fighto!
Hopefully Yoon steps down voluntarily. He is clearly finished either way.
The region needs a stable and strong democracy in South Korea to help stand up to the authoritarian neighbors. Sadly, SK is neither stable, nor strong.

In a state of self induced paranoia, boarding on a political nervous breakdown, President Yoon Suk Yeol has taken leave of his senses. declared martial law.
It more than just a momentary lapse of reason.
Yoon is irrationality believing convinced, insisting “anti-state forces” are crawling out the woodwork, “threats posed by North Korea”. are everywhere, bobbing up and down staring out at him from his soup, within parliament, tormented by “false propaganda”, and impromptu “gatherings that incite social unrest”.
The timing for such unhinged deranged visions of insanity couldn't be more problematic.
The North Korean madman fighting a proxy war for potty Putin. Xi Jinping President of the People's Republic of China bullying threatening an invasion of Taiwan, seizing vital global shipping routes.
Maybe we are all witnessing an episode of the Twilight Zone, praying soon we will all wake up.

Maybe Yoon can ask for asylum in Japan. Kishida is a good friend. The alternative is certain legal proceedings and likely incarceration.

I have a few questions, possibly someone with better knowledge of situation may help.
Is DPRK president democrat or not?
Is DPRK opposition democratic or not?
I am in doubt who is who..
if compare with say Slovakia/slovak gov is not democratic one but opposition is democratic one/,Sakartvelo/ge gov is not democratic one,ge resident and opposition are democratic ones/ in start contrast with Moldova/md president is democratic one,her opposition is not democratic one/ .
When we are sure who is democrat and who is not?

What bugs me most is that their professional military didn't refuse to be part of martial law. The South Korean Army should know better considering their sad history of past massacres. I feel bad for the conscript soldiers sent into their Parliament. I'm sure they were scared to death and confused. Their leaders however have no such excuses and must be held accountable for their part in this. Good military officers are supposed to know what a legal order and an illegal order is and refuse to obey an illegal order. Their top leadership should never have put their mid grade and junior leaders in such a position. Some of those top leaders now must face discipline. I fear the people of South Korea will now greatly distrust their military and that has all kinds of ramifications for the future.
Japan will also now likely have a hostile leader in South Korea to deal no matter what Japan does or does not do. Just a turd sandwich all around.

Yoon's coup fortunately was virtually stillborn. But it is a chilling reminder that democracy is endangered in South Korea.
HopeSpringsEternal
Let's hope the SK politicians decide to build rather burn bridges, as their people want them to work together to solve THEIR problems, make society better etc. Ditto US, Europe, Japan, etc.
One party rule is a receipt for corruption and failure, no matter where the democracy resides. Even in China within the CCP, there's lots of internal battles over ideas and direction, it's a healthy and needed process.
kohakuebisu
While this was going on, Japanese tv was still doing its regular programming. I may be wrong on this, but I think an attempted coup of sorts in the country next door is slightly more important than Shouty Comedian #1, Shouty Comedian #2, and Eyecandy Girl eat a steak. Or whatever they were showing.

Nice little head turner for those that still entertain a bit of superstition or numerology. 108 being a very auspicious number in the Asian view of the cosmos. Not too auspicious for Japans mate Yoon though by the sound.
Agree with kohakuebisu, this is a big deal, very dramatic, almost movie-like yet haven’t heard anyone talking about it here at work today. Martial law declared in a neighboring country should have alarm bells ringing.
Just realized how little I know about what’s going on in SK. Think it maybe time to read up on the place as it affects the stability and future of the entire region. Everything being connected
Earthly temptations
In Buddhism, there are 108 earthly temptations, or vices, that humans must overcome to achieve enlightenment. These temptations include arrogance, obsession, and violence.

Kim Jong Un has kindly offered to dispatch a peacekeeping force to help stabilise the situation. This would have the added bonus of facilitating the reunification of the occupied south province under the legitimate, true capital, Pyongyang, which can help restore sovereignty, public decency and dignity over the entire peninsula for all Korean people, freeing the victims of the south from the imperialist proxy yolk once again.
Occupied South Korea province has had 12 presidents violently overthrown, military couped, assassinated, imprisoned, sentenced to death, arrested, impeached, jailed, suicided - out of 13 (excluding non-acting presidents). Something is rotten with the satellite state down there.
TaiwanIsNotChina
And much laughter was heard. Maybe Zelenskyy should have offered a peacekeeping force when Wagner had its rebellion.
I believe Kim Il Sung would like his talking points back.
And yet they score wildly better on all measures of democracy than russia/China. Go figure. Also no way to refer to a country with 100% UN recognition.

The tragedy is the prospect of a return to the sneering loathing, resentment of another "Moon Jae-in" a relic of a form festering toxic animosity directed at the people of Japan, at the expense of regional peace and stability.
Moon Jae-in belligerence towards Japan was matched by his total disrespect disregard for international treaty law, weaponizing his domestic judiciary to breech the terms of The Treaty on Basic Relations between Japan and the Republic of Korea was signed on June 22, 1965.

Yoon has shown what a paranoid little man he really is.

Washington's lobbies are already in a panic mode about the last weapons order they placed couple of weeks ago in Seul for $6,2 billions of weapons. Will it be still valid?

Not surprising the guy was the best friend of the current US administration.
Last time I’ve checked he was singing American Pie at a US state dinner with Joe Biden:

When Yoon is impeached or resigns his hand picked Prime Minister Han Duck-soo will lead an interim government. A special presidential election must then take place within 60 days.
Yoon's People Power (lol) party will get crushed.
