Yes, rest in peace, another great man and patriot died today. Very sad, my heart goes out to him and his family.

RIP. A man of great honor. Militaries all over he world need more folks like him. Very interesting childhood which is why I think he was a bit more open minded and well rounded than most.

Gen. Schwarzkopf will go down in the annals of military history as one of the greatest generals who ever lived.

Goodbye, sir. I was honored that you were my brigade commander at Ft. Lewis in the mid-1970s. Your service to our great nation shall never be forgotten.

Until the truth comes out, yeah. I will say RIP from my heart, though. We all must die, and now that Norman is just a bag of rotting meat he can no longer suffer. Loss of life is a tragedy, and it's a shame he caused so many to lose theirs before their time while he got to wait it out and lose it naturally.

Hopefully, if there is a next life, he'll have learned and lead a better one.

Yes and no. He'll go down as a good general, without a doubt, but also as a puppet to bad leadership. It'll take a couple of generations and some distance to admit if, of course, but there you go. Still, a loss of life is a loss of life, so RIP. At least he got to live his out.

What made him a so-called patriot, RR and bass? Was it his ability to blindly follow inept leaders, or was it his later statements where he laid low and admitted "hindsight is 20/20" and the wars should not have occurred?

I'll just say that, as long as armies are necessary, our nation was in very good hands having men like General Schwarzkopf leading the troops. I guess the ultimate "test" question is: Would you have wanted your son or daughter to serve under him?

I would have no hesitation in answering "Yes" to that question. There's not much more to add.

Smith, he didn't have much to do with Iraq beyond making some statements. He's credited for leading the international coalition to oust Saddam from Kuwait under H.W. Bush.
