I think it's safe to say when you are sailing the seas, make sure you have a reliable and infallible boat new engine, enough food, a backup plan and top of the notch radio because once you are stranded, you are nothing but a pin in the giant ocean. Thank god these people are safe.

It is a sailboat with an inboard motor. I don't understand why they could not use their sails if their motor failed. Anyone travelling from Hawaii to Tahiti you would think would carry a spare mainsail and jib.
