“Hostility”

Nice try with the psychology word play.

The correct word is distrust and ignore.

Aka, the MSM is becoming irrelevant and this article is them huffing and puffing about it.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

t's been true for some time that Republicans are generally more hostile to the news media than Democrats , but a study released Thursday found that's much more the case for supporters of President Donald Trump.

Trump and his Republicans continue their attacks on those in the media questioning Trump's attempts to further undermine the democratic principles the republic was based on, such as "abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press". (1st Amendment, US Constitution) They're using tactics dictators throughout history have to stifle opposition while supporting media outlets, such as Breitbart, Fox and Comrades, RT, Sputnik, infowars and others pushing their agendas. In addition to far right media, Trump etal are financed and backed by the globe's richest and most powerful.

Aka, the MSM is becoming irrelevant and this article is them huffing and puffing about it.

I'm uncertain what MSM might mean, but if the point is people are relying more on what they read on the internet, especially in social media, that could be possible. That's why some governments are paying groups such as the Internet Research Agency to use social media to push propaganda.

Losers stick with losers.

A more accurate headline would be "study shows hostility towards Trump supporters by journalists". The blatant left/Democratic bias in the majority of the media is breathtaking. Tell me who in the media, outside of Fox News staff, perhaps voted Republican in 2016....

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

A more accurate headline would be "study shows hostility towards Trump supporters by journalists".

Yeah because we should start reporting on ‘Pub delusions rather than reality. Gotcha.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Actually Stranger, there are myriad studies which clearly show the left leaning bias of the media. CNN is infamous for it especially- during the 2008 election, for example, they aired stories critical of Republicans three TIMES more often than stories critical of Demcrats. You think that has changed? Again I ask you, who at the big three networks or big three cable channels do you think possibly voted for Trump? Excepting Fox news, the remaining 5 sources lean totally Democrat.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Where's the study that shows hostility toward Trump by journalists?

Oh that's right, don't need a study for that, we see it every day. Sometimes it's hilarious, like CNN's Don Lemon's triggered reaction to Trump's Thanos meme tweet, haha lol

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Where's the study that shows hostility toward Trump by journalists?

Normal people have serious questions about Donald Trump as president, both because of his lifetime of cheating and scamming and because of his unethical and unprofessional actions in office. Normal people question these things, and real journalists more so. It’s their job.

Trump and his supporters don’t care about accountability for their team as long as they get to win and, more importantly, feel like they’re sticking it to the “libs” and the “left”. Resentment and hostility are the driving forces behind the MAGA cult.

Just read the Trumpsters’ responses to my post.

@bas4fBecause we know that the msm

I don't know who the 'we' being referred to might be, nor what's meant by 'MSM'. Though I've read its definition in the alt right's glossary of terms, I'm still confused.

Posters on this forum have crowed Fox 'news' has the biggest audiences, which to me suggests Fox is pretty mainstream. But the right still belief what's said on it. Fair enough. Freedom, after all. Rupert Murdoch owns one of the globe's largest media empires, yet somehow his outlets aren't included by rightists as MSM. Then there's Putin, a rightwing politician said to be the richest man in the world, a man who owns a global media empire. But for some reason rightists don't include his outlets under MSM. I know Alphabet's one of the largest corporations in the world, and includes 'corporate' media like youtube, which rightists, actually people of all political beliefs, cite to justify their opinions. Once again freedom to believe.

Given an increasing number of people around the globe can use the internet to get the full spectrum of opinions in dozens of different languages, I find it odd that people attack the media as being biased. Of course it is. And really worrying that people like Trump use their power to attack outlets that question him. Objective and reasonable journalists must see that as a problem.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

PT, I include Fox as the largest and most popular of the cable networks. However, their viewership is dwarfed by the Big Three tv networks, who all lean decidedly left. Plus the largest newspapers in the US- New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, all are left of center. Only the Wall Street Journal is centrist, with a right leaning editorial page. As for online media? Forgettaboutit.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

As for online media? Forgettaboutit.

I can't. It's too important.

A vast majority of adults in the United States get at least some news onlinehttps://www.journalism.org/fact-sheet/digital-news/

And that's a reason many governments are paying trolls to spread propaganda via social media, including sites like this. Freedom includes the right of those attacking the media to be able to do so. Even those who don't understand the consequences of state media control should have that right, as well as those who want to see continuation of freedom of the press able to express a full range of opinions.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@serranoOh that's right, don't need a study for that,

The above a good example of partisan extremists going by feels and not valid research. No wonder so many believe the conspiracy theorists.

I don't know who the 'we' being referred to might be,

Becoming a growing (discontent) majority

https://theintercept.com/2019/12/12/the-inspector-generals-report-on-2016-fb-i-spying-reveals-a-scandal-of-historic-magnitude-not-only-for-the-fbi-but-also-the-u-s-media/

nor what's meant by 'MSM'.

“Main stream media.”

Though I've read its definition in the alt right's glossary of terms, I'm still confused.

that should now clarify all of that.

Given an increasing number of people around the globe can use the internet to get the full spectrum of opinions in dozens of different languages,

There's more unverified crap out there as well.

I find it odd that people attack the media as being biased.

No the media should never be THAT bias, you do have that on both sides, but when it comes to this president they are beyond bias and they will try to attack you or Censure you, disable your twitter account, do whatever they can to shut you up and unwilling to engage, it’s easier to just get rid of you and we have seen more than enough of this over the last 3 1/2 years. these people are not being objective these people are just condemning the president without a shred of fax, this is one of the reasons why so many of the liberal media outlets had to offer apologies and retractions of stories and statements because they were getting debunked at every turn.

A Trumpophile playing the victim card. What a shock and surprise.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Publishing demonstrably false and heavily biased information as "truth" loses credibility among cognitive people. This is another propaganda puff piece to disparage conservatives who don't agree with the far-left.

A Trumpophile playing the victim card. What a shock and surprise

Actually, he’s looking more like a winner if this continues.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

This is another propaganda puff piece to disparage conservatives who don't agree with the far-left.

Isn't it reassuring to be able to read an article, interpret and form your own opinion supporting or rebutting it, and then have that opinion published after the article? And to think there are those who attack the free, for-profit press., some even trying to glorify a Russian style media controlled by the state. SMH

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Calling out deliberate lies and obvious omissions is not “hostility”

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

some even trying to glorify a Russian style media controlled by the state. SMH

Be honest, you really respect Russia. You mention it every single post, even Schiff as bad as he is doesn’t invoke them THAT much, but you....

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

The disdain for Trump and his supporters is palpable in the mainstream media. Also, apparently, on this forum as well. The same goes for the entertainment industry- it is sometimes embarrassing how ham-handed they are in shoehorning left wing values and ideology into movies and tv shows.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The press got caught taking pictures of what was on the desk while the impeachment committee was out of the room. Supposedly....

“His photos include members’ copies of the U.S. Constitution, the Holy Bible, The Federalist Papers and pieces of illegible paper that were sitting on the dais,”

who takes pics of illegible pieces of paper?

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Be honest, you really respect Russia. You mention it every single post, even Schiff as bad as he is doesn’t invoke them THAT much, but you....

You mention Democrats in every post. Does this mean you really respect dems?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

You mention Democrats in every post. Does this mean you really respect dems?

Yes, we only have two political parties in the US compared to one “Russia.”

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Yes, we only have two political parties in the US

Failure of the American political system. Yes!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Be honest, you really respect Russia. You mention it every single post, even Schiff as bad as he is doesn’t invoke them THAT much, but you....

If that's your measure of liking something, you must love Obama and Hillary...

By the way, who met with a Russian in the Oval Office this week and yucked it up? And did you see Rudy's buddy and Trump photo-mate Parnas received $1 million from a Russian oligarch close to Putin? How many photos was he in with Donnie?

The disdain for Trump and his supporters is palpable in the mainstream media. Also, apparently, on this forum as well. The same goes for the entertainment industry- it is sometimes embarrassing how ham-handed they are in shoehorning left wing values and ideology into movies and tv shows.

A little off;

The disdain for the truth by Trump and his supporters is palpable in the alt-right and Russian-partnered alt-right media. Also, apparently, on this forum as well. The same goes for the alt-right entertainment industry- it is sometimes embarrassing how ham-handed they are in shoehorning Russian authored right wing conspiracy theories into their "entertainment" shows (Hannity, Carlson, Ingraham)...

There, fixed it for you...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Failure of the American political system.

No, I vehemently disagree.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

If that's your measure of liking something, you must love Obama and Hillary.

Close.

*The disdain for the truth by Trump and his supporters is palpable in the alt-right and Russian-partnered alt-right media. *

What?

Also, apparently, on this forum as well.

For example?

*The same goes for the alt-right entertainment industry- it is sometimes embarrassing how ham-handed they are in shoehorning *Russian authored right wing conspiracy theories into their "entertainment" shows (Hannity, Carlson, Ingraham)...

....and yet judging by the polls, the entire Russian narrative hoax is falling on deaf ears and people are getting tired of it, but the liberals in the mainstream media really want to continue with the Russian negative, because they have nothing else to run on or to talk about. If it’s not Russia then it’s Ukraine, if it’s not Ukraine then it’s Russia. Lol

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Lincoln, the whole "there I fixed your post for you" is sooooo 2015. Do you have anything constructive to add to the discussion? I would love to hear about this "alt right entertainment industry" that you mention- where is it located? Which movies has it produced? There has got to be more to it than a couple of cable tv talk shows...

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The media have been against Trump since The Apprentice days. On the first day of his presidency, the left had a 200,000 people demo., in effect against his election, with huge coverage and support from the media.

So, why shouldn’t Trump supporters dislike the media??

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

You can also contrast the unrestrained ebullience shown election night on the major networks when Pres. Obama won in 2008 and 2012 with the somber funereal mood when Trump won in 2016. There is really no denying the bias. The only question is the extent and how honest they are about it.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

@bassBe honest, you really respect Russia. You mention it every single post,

Every single post? Bad counting, bad conclusion, but one to be expected from posters who can only see the world as A or Z. And posters who support Russia and its meddling in other nation's affairs. No, I am anti-authoritarian; that's why I oppose Russia and 'Americans' who want Trump to be Putin-like. Or Xi-like. Or Kim-like.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Every single post?

Yes.

Bad counting, bad conclusion, but one to be expected from posters who can only see the world as A or Z.

But R is the preferred alphabet choice for liberals.

And posters who support Russia and its meddling in other nation's affairs.

Seems like the majority of liberals support Russia given the fact, that’s the ONLY thing they want to talk about.

No, I am anti-authoritarian; that's why I oppose Russia and 'Americans' who want Trump to be Putin-like. Or Xi-like. Or Kim-like.

Then please excoriate the biggest mouthpieces For Russia, the Democrat party.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

@bas4fSeems like the majority of liberals support Russia given the fact, that’s the ONLY thing they want to talk about.

The ONLY thing? Russia and the global alt right's inroads into the US are of concern to most who want to see the US remain a sovereign state, not one sold out to Russia or any other foreign government. Russia's meddling in US politics and Russia's financial connections with Trump, McConnell, Graham, Cruz, Kennedy, Rubio and other 'American' politicians is definitely one of many things many Americans are concerned with. It's definitely on the list of worries along with Trump's attacks on the free, for-profit press (cornerstone to democracy and ensured by the US Constitution), nepotism, using the White House for family profit, wasting taxpayer's dollars playing golf, etc. etc.

But definitely not the ONLY thing. When rightists admit Russia meddles in US politics and rightists denounce Russia for doing so, I might start to believe the American right care about US sovereignty.
