@carpslidy - I mostly disagree with you regarding the handling of the covid pandemic, but thank you at least for getting your shot. I hope I can get mine soon too but it seems extremely difficult at this time.
carpslidy
Coronavirus doesn't worry me personally,
yet I got my first shot today because I want society to return to normal.

Refreshing to read a post not part of US political squabbling on a story about a worldwide catastrophe.
I struggle with the idea of the government mandating vaccines for travel, but one interesting view was a comparison to smoking. There were people arguing against banning smoking in public places on the grounds of individual liberty. I can’t imagine too many now who would argue for bringing back smoking on planes.
If people choose not to be vaccinated, they have chosen to be a health hazard to others.
Leaving it up to the individual companies to decide has been put forward, but bringing in unvaccinated people to a country is surely an issue which falls in the lap of governments.
I’ve generally been quite tolerant of morons/hysterical types/conspiracy theorists in my life as we can’t help the cards we were dealt, but they are really testing the patience of many now.

And all those highly paid virology experts tell me about approximately 40% less rates in summer, expectable decreasing caused by seasonality and all such… Go back in your room playing with your toy cars and puppets. lol
takeda.shingen.1991@gmail.com
As your ill-informed choice threatens the post-pandemic recovery and I can and will advocate for people to get vaccinated: get your vaccination, people!
And I'll even go a step further; I hope countries start mandating vaccinations to travel overseas. Make your choice, fine, but I hope society chooses that which is in it's self-interest, and right-wing garbage.
Jsapc
How is not getting vaccinated leading to a "return to normalcy", exactly? Because that's what's driving the numbers the most.
Antiquesaving
Sure and the moon is made of cheese.
The Delta variant would have made it out anyway, perhaps a little slower but would have gotten out sooner or later.
Come on think sometimes people, plagues and pandemics have been crossing countries, continents, etc ..for millennia long before planes, even before ships.
This constant false idea one can isolate a country or region is a pipe dream of a long forgotten time when people locked the doors to their fortified cities expecting the plague outside not to get in.
It didn't work then it will not work now.
Slowing travel will help slow the spread but it will spread.
The only solution is vaccination and early detection and maybe just maybe we can reduce or localise future outbreaks but this is not smallpox and eradication will most likely not happen.
Blacklabel
what else could it be? oh they "know",
healthy 16 year old kid gets vaccine and dies. Oh we "dont know" what happened, says CDC.
Anyway its a personal choice and others should not be telling people what to do (either way) or advocating for people who dont get the vaccine to be discriminated against. Its not as clear as you claim that getting vaccinated is the correct long term choice for every single person.
Christopher Glen
"How did you come to this flabbergasting conclusion? The actual answer is right there in the article:"
And you're taking it at face value I see. Yes, anything that would lead to a return to normalcy, apparently, is driving up the numbers.
Christopher Glen
"Vaccine shortages, vaccine deniers and irresponsible behavior are driving up the numbers."
Being skeptical of rushed MRNA modifiers is natural. To be honest I fear them more than the actual virus. But at this point, the vax-skeptics and proponents are so entrenched in their positions, there will likely be no room for compromise.
"covid-19 (605,000 deaths)?" Of? With? Underlying conditions? Almost all those who - unfortunately died of/with Covid have either been the elderly or those with compromised immune systems. Deaths from other illnesses/causes are no longer considered important it seems. This is what is scary and what should worry people.
takeda.shingen.1991@gmail.com
Lmao it's been approved via emergency use authorization. If it wasn't authorized, it'd be impossible to die.
If the vaccine is unnecessary as you claim, then why are 99.99% of current Covid deaths from unvaccinated people?
ulysses
The internet is full of videos of covidiots getting arrested for trespassing , damaging property etc for trying to enter private establishments without masks. Each one of this not so smart bunch had delusions of suing the establishments the police etc etc, all they ended up with was arrests and fines.
So if anyone has delusions that they can sue over their own lack of intelligence, then go for it.
Good luck with finding lawyers!!!
Haaa Nemui
So if the vaccines are not approved, that makes Operation Warp Speed an embarrassing failure.
sunfunbun
COVID has been stifled to a large degree by vaccination, but it is a virus, and virus will mutate into different strains.
It is the main reason why letting the virus fix itself with herd immunity was so stupid, why it is just the flu was a stupid statement, and why ignoring it was flat out the dumbest thing anyone with any critical thought would do.
Thinking the pandemic is over, as many areas seem to, by having huge gatherings and not wearing masks is still a huge danger.
takeda.shingen.1991@gmail.com
No. Again, read what I wrote. I answered this very question:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety/adverse-events.html#:~:text=Reports%20of%20death%20after%20COVID,received%20a%20COVID%2D19%20vaccine.
Unnecessary? What are you talking about? You think getting a vaccine to prevent an illness that killed 605,551 in one year is "unecessary?"
Those "adverse side effects" occur at rates, far, far less than Covid-19 deaths. And I highly date those numbers are going to suddenly jump.
lincolnman
Absolutely. Don't get it. And refuse all the other vaccines too - Polio, Tuberculosis, etc...
No need for safety googles, life vests, etc...they just restrict your freedom...
And those tornado sirens - you won't get blown away - stay out on the porch and watch the view...
I do recommend that you update your will though...
Blacklabel
let me guess its death with vaccine, not death by vaccine?
this nonsense again? which when it was Corona deaths you said that with means by, its the same thing.
But now, will flip flop to those being different?
Blacklabel
then how do you calculate 6,079 death from vaccine compared to 605,551 deaths from COVID?
do you have some special math?
Jsapc
Nope.
Nope.
Blacklabel
so deaths from the vaccine are 1%+ of the total deaths from COVID?
Over 6000 people who didnt even have COVID died because they got an unnecessary vaccine for something they didnt even have? there are already adverse side effects, will there be more found next year? in 5 years?
and that doesnt concern you at all?
Well ok then,
Jsapc
Ah yes, the famous "I don't need a seatbelt because I don't get in car crashes." argumentation. The pinnacle of sensible thinking. Can be applied to anything that even remotely impairs the perceived liberties of the most selfish members of our societies. Bike helmets, condoms, social security...
Nothing to be gained here. Downvote and move on.
takeda.shingen.1991@gmail.com
For those not interested in looking things up themselves:
Covid-19 adverse events report, as reported by the CDC:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety/adverse-events.html#:~:text=Reports%20of%20death%20after%20COVID,received%20a%20COVID%2D19%20vaccine.
US Covid-19 deaths:
605,551

Get vaccinated everyone.
ulysses
France introduced measures to ensure only the vaccinated could go to cafes and a million immediately signed up.
Other countries will follow suit to bring the not so smart in line.
So unless you live outside of civilization and survive by farming and hunting you will need a vaccine sooner or later.
Bob Fosse
If you’re not going to listen to me to me the 100th time I tell you I’m not a liberal what is the point of listening to you at all?
takeda.shingen.1991@gmail.com
And you know, I wouldn't really care if you wanted to play Russian roulette with your own life, but unfortunately for the rest of society, the carelessness of people such as yourself threatens everyone else in society.
There's a chance much, much higher than 99% that you will get Covid 19. It's infected tens of millions of Americans.
Let's see: how many people died after getting the vaccine vs. how many people died from Covid 19?
Blacklabel
and what if I dont get it? People have died from.....getting the vaccine, no?
ulysses
Wrong!! And it prevents you from falling seriously ill if you get the virus.
What if you do get it!!!
4 million people are dead and the numbers are increasing by the day!!!
SuperLib
If it gets to where the anti-vaxxers start screwing up the vaccines and people start to get wiped out again I think we will see a strong push to have then rounded up and segregated from society.
Thomas Tank
Not all conservatives are morons. There are even a few liberals who aren't either! Can't we just stay away from politics and just comment on the rising Corona numbers?
Blacklabel
typical liberal response. Im right and if you dont agree with ME, you are spreading misinformation and should not even be allowed to speak. just shut up, dont question ME, says the faithful liberal.
umm thats not how it works, sorry.
Jsapc
Yup.
Because dying sucks.
If it wasn't approved, nobody could get it.
Any other questions?
Bob Fosse
I respect integrity and stickin’ to your guns in most cases. Blatant idiocy and stubborn ignorance masquerading as integrity however, that needs stomping on.
Take your vaccine or shut up about it because the only other thing you are doing is displaying your ignorance and idiocy.
Blacklabel
no thanks! its not approved and getting it doesnt even mean that I cant still get the coronavirus anyway.
So why do I need to inject something into my own body that has unknown consequences a year, 5 years from now?
to not even get full immunity from something that I am 99% sure not to get and that if I do, I am 99% sure to survive?
unknown consequences of the vaccine vs I get less seriously ill IF I get corona?
What if I never get it? then which is more dangerous to me, getting the vaccine or not getting corona at all?
ulysses
Wrong!!
You can get it but the chances of you being seriously ill go down.
There is enough information available out there and most people are aware of it.
Though I consider it a privilege to educate our lesser educated brethren.
takeda.shingen.1991@gmail.com
Literally nothing funny about it. 99.99% of Covid deaths are from unvaccinated people. Get your damn vaccine.
CarlosTakanakana
@virusrex
The problem is that people are not used to seeing real science in action. They think of science as a series of facts written in textbooks (in stone.)
The real strength of science is the possibility for consensus to change when compelling evidence comes to light.
I also would like people to stop criticising politicians when they change their mind, this should also not be a weakness.
vic.M
Strange how there are more deaths supposedly by " Covid " as the vaccinations numbers increase.
takeda.shingen.1991@gmail.com
Wrong. You can get it. It's not likely, but definitely possible. If you do get it, chances are you won't get very sick, but if too few people get vaccinated, chances are it mutates and the vaccine efficacy decreases.
Haaa Nemui
To finally start to make headway into combating this virus. You might think that because it doesn’t 100% stop you from getting the infection that it doesn’t work. You would be 100% wrong.
lincolnman
The great irony in the US, is that you have people that refuse the current vaccines...
Yet a year ago were all for HCQ and Clorox injections...
Most will end up like this unfortunate fellow...
A 24-year-old Georgia man who contracted COVID-19 and required a double lung transplant, and who remains hospitalized, has expressed his regret he did not get vaccinated for the virus, which has so far killed more than 607,000 Americans.
https://news.yahoo.com/24-year-old-who-needed-double-lung-transplant-wishes-hed-been-vaccinated-for-covid-19-180810400.html
Blacklabel
so you can still get it even if you are vaccinated?
then why get the vaccine, which is still under "emergency usage" authorization and is not approved?
Haaa Nemui
What gives you this idea?
Blacklabel
you cant get it once you get vaccinated, right?
so the vaccination status of others wouldnt affect you anymore.
Commodore Perry
Eighteen-year-old actress and singer Olivia Rodrigo appeared at the White House on Wednesday as part of an effort by President Joe Biden to persuade more young people. Getting a vaccination is something "you can do more easily than ever before,” she said.
It makes sense to have this young actress take a role because even though the elderly were targeted first for vaccination that cases would still grow since the young are going about life as if everything were normal, and this is happening globally. Holland, France, Germany, Japan, Korea . . .
takeda.shingen.1991@gmail.com
Maybe not though. Unless enough people get vaccinated like you. I'm getting my first shot this weekend, and this is what bothers me more than anything else; A minority of people can ruin this for everyone.
SuperLib
I'm vaccinated so I should be fine.
What would help would be to redirect extra supplies to countries in need so those who want to be safe from the virus can be safe.
Jimizo
It’s an optimistic view. A lot of the problem is low IQ, a pathology for conspiracy theories and a temperament unsuitable for the realities of life.
Education can only go so far but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try. It’s worth remembering that part of the attraction of conspiracy theories is that they flatter their followers into believing they are the truly educated ones.
ulysses
There’s definitely a deficit of courage amongst the vaccine deniers that is leading to a rise in infections.
Sometimes it comes from something as trivial as the fear of a needle .
This all comes out of ignorance and it is our duty to educate our not so smart fellow beings.
lincolnman
Well in the US, when you have far-right media sites like Fox and Newsmaxx telling their viewers that "vaccines are against nature" and "diseases are supposed to wipe out people"...this is what you get...
https://news.yahoo.com/newsmax-host-suggests-vaccines-against-193741171.html
The level of negligence is amazing - hopefully they'll be sued out of existence...
Fighto!
Unfortunately there are millions and millions of Covidiots, anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers worldwide. They are academically dumb, hate science, are sociopaths, and are mostly responsible for this resurgence.
Monty
Unfortunately even some of our scientists, who at the beginning of the pandemic told people they did not have to wear masks
Yep!
Thanks God that I did not listen to them, what so many people here requires.
egads man!
Doing my part. Got my first jab last weekend and I'll get the 2nd in 2 1/2 weeks.
ulysses
99% of the COVID deaths in the US now are from the unvaccinated.
How’s that for a statistic!!!!
Kaerimashita
Indeed all the silly conservatives citing stats and data to illustrate a point around draconian measures not working in controlling this virus.
Jsapc
How did you come to this flabbergasting conclusion? The actual answer is right there in the article:
"The reversal has been attributed to low vaccination rates, the relaxation of mask rules and other precautions, and the swift spread of the more-contagious delta variant."

Readers, please do not bring your daily U.S. political bickering to this thread.

Summer setback: COVID deaths and cases rising again globally
Its only summer in half of the globe.
Bob Fosse
So Fauci was right to begin with then? You have any more own goals lined up?
JeffLee
Thanks, Modi. If all flights from South Asia were grounded by all countries right after the Kumbh Mela festival in India, this wouldn't be happening.
NOMINATION
I hope you aren't talking about that one guy because it would be blasphemous. Also you can never blame the country where it came from, that failed to contain it and that tried to hide its seriousness by silencing their doctors.
ulysses
Fortunately the scientists studied and were able to come up with new guidelines as new information emerged.
Unfortunately the ignorant crowd did not do so, they went from denying the virus, to it not being harmful to suggesting bizarre treatments……
And now the ignorant crowd is driving up the infection numbers worldwide.
Haaa Nemui
Certainly mistakes were made, but things started to improve and are going downhill again because certain groups of people are always looking for someone else to blame. Certain groups that ulysses made clear in his/her post.
virusrex
Why would anybody have to acquit himself from giving proper advice according to the best available science at the moment? are you under the impression scientists have access to time machines or that situations (like mask shortages) always remain the same?
Wolfpack
Unfortunately even some of our scientists, who at the beginning of the pandemic told people they did not have to wear masks, haven’t acquitted themselves all that well. That to me was a critical mistake from the onset. By the time they were proven wrong and changed their tune, the damage had already been done.
ulysses
The scientists developed vaccines against the virus, unfortunately they didn’t develop one against ignorance.
The biggest danger is the ignorance being spread by ignorant people!!!!
Wolfpack
You would think after the start of the year when vaccines were spread being approved and produced in large volumes that governments would have had this under control by now. Even countries that initially handled the crisis well - like South Korea - are starting to have problems at this late date. It’s inexplicable.
ulysses
Vaccine shortages, vaccine deniers and irresponsible behavior are driving up the numbers.
Ignorance is a serious problem!!!!
Kaerimashita
Interesting about Australia

Stuck record. The previously used measures are clearly jot working to suppress or eliminate the virus. But the fearmongering continues
