Sun shoots out biggest solar flare in almost 2 decades, but Earth should be out of the way this time

Sooner or later one of these things will get us, and that will be a world-wide disaster, with all sort of electronics and things that depend on those shutting down.

Once that happens, we'll return to the 1800's where winters will be unbearably cold, summers scorchingly hot and life a lot simpler and quieter. The worst of it all, no more JT. Let's just hope that if one of those things hits us, it will just be a light show and not be a lights out.

Could be more yet - the large sunspot group from where these flares are coming is now on the other side of the sun, but in a couple of weeks from now it will have come round to face earth again assuming it lasts that long.
