With these last two remaining in the race to the bottom it looks like the Brits are well and truly "Trussed" (and oven-ready for another roasting if the Tories play their third "Queen of Hearts" card to hide their cruel austerity for the plebs program behind the soft image of a distaff candidate. I saw an interview with Kemi Badenoch where she simply answered all of the interviewers questions and criticisms in a direct and straightforward manner - obviously she didn’t stand a chance in the leadership race. The remaining two are just career politicians and will have no chance of connecting with the so called “red wall” voters. The next election is Labour’s to lose - all they need to do is keep a lid on all the indulgent woke and radical stuff that turns off a large swathe of British voters outside of the capital.

Labour have at least managed to hold themselves together, unlike the continually fragmenting Japanese opposition parties, they generally manage to keep up with the Conservatives in the polls and perform respectably in elections, and people generally have a good idea of who their leader is as they go head-to-head with the Prime Minister every week, and Keir Starmer has invariably wiped the floor with Boris Johnson.

It wasn't a very nuanced question though, was it. In general the Tories, or Conservatives lean right and favour low taxes, private enterprise and employer-friendly policies whereas Labour are historically left-wing and support more state control over public services. In practice though the ideologies blur a bit depending on what appears to be necessary or popular, e.g. Labour were calling for a windfall tax which the Conservatives opposed until they changed their minds and decided to introduce it.

Maybe a fantasy, but it occurred to me that Sunak has engineered this so he goes head to head with Truss. Although popular now with members, Truss will lose because she is fundamentally an idiot and the scrutiny she comes under in the next month will demonstrate what an electoral liability she would be. Sunak can't win on his own because of the non-dom thing with his missus, his green card, and most of all, because he's seen as having betrayed Johnson. He needs Truss as his opponent to make him look the less bad option. If Sunak beats Truss, he also temporarily defeats the ERG right wing nutjobs who have turned the Conservative Party into a mix of UKIP and the EDL. If Truss wins, the ERG would be even more powerful than they are now. For those not paying attention, it was the ERG who brought down May. Mourdant too had a weak standing and did not seem to have any clear policies, so she too would have been subject to ERG control. If Truss and the ERG beat Sunak, the Tory Party will implode, it'll be more of the same but without Johnson's jokiness to distract people, and Starmer will win in a landslide. Sunak may win and still face major problems with the ERG, because no amount of Brexit is ever enough for them and their next mission is to stop all net zero projects.

It does not appear things are going to get any more sensible in Great Britain anytime soon. Boris Johnson is going to be replaced as the Conservative Party Prime Minister by either a) a corrupt Indian with shady global finance connections or b) an incompetent Remain lunatic who does a convincing neocon impression.

I gave Truss the nickname ‘human hand grenade’ when she worked in the Department for Education. She said this week it was a ‘compliment’ because she gets things done. No. It was because she caused chaos and misery INSTEAD OF getting things done. Truss is the only minister I shouted at in No10. The reason was her compulsive pathological leaking. As soon as she left any meeting she would call people like Harry Cole (The Sun) and blurt out what had been said. This routinely caused chaos and often damaged the UK. I called her over to No10. I sat in that tiny little room near the Cabinet room next to the loos (G39). I said to her: what are you doing leaking everything, stop, focus on your real job where you’re failing to grip your department, focus on that… The eyes had a thousand yard stare. ‘What do you mean the real job?’ she said. I agree with the idea that to believe you are the right person to lead a country takes some degree of narcissism. The bigger problem is when you have little or nothing to justify such inflated confidence.

Liz Truss has far less than Sunak and I’m not a fan of Sunak at all.

Truss is not cut out for anything approaching this level.

Britain’s already had a couple of female Pm’s So give the guy with Indian heritage a chance—-he’s not going to be there very long anyway and it’ll make 1.4 billion Indian’s chests swell with pride that one of their own could become the British PM.It’ll bring happiness and pride to so many people.

Tax rate cuts in practice often don’t result in lower tax revenues. But higher tax revenues often don’t result in lower debt, because politicians in democratic countries promise to spend more of other people’s money in order to get themselves re-elected.

Thatcher had a great quote about socialism I think being fantastic, until one runs out of other peoples money.

JFK has a notable quote about the tax revenues point, noting a paradoxical truth that a best way to boost tax revenues in the long run is to cut tax rates now.

Sunak seems very flaky from what I have read, and Truss seems to lack charisma but at least she seems to understand Thatcher better than Sunak.
