Here's hoping they smack down the GOP-passed restrictive voting efforts and set a national minimum for registration, absentee voting and after hours and early voting. Voting should be easier, not harder.

America needs to amend the US Constitution to move voting from a weekday to a weekend too.

If copyright laws have more reasonable time limits and prohibit the assignment of copyright to a non-human entity, the idea of copying wouldn't be nearly the same issue. Protection wasn't meant to be forever, regardless of what artists or Disney want. It was to be for a period of time to allow the original creator to profit from their work. Any copyriht laws have far reaching impacts, since software is also covered under copyright law. Between copyright, patents and trademarks, there are lots of ways to protect unique works. They shouldn't be forever.

How about doing as many countries, national holiday and vote in person.

TheFu, early voting even in the "Jim Crowe' reboot state of Georgia has multiple weekend voting opportunities. I have not voted on election day in a decade or more although I would. Voting should be a thoughtful endeavor and not like ordering a pizza.

OnTheTrail - I like the idea of a national holiday. Some states do have state holidays. Many people are not able to vote in person, however, and the convenience of vote-by-mail helps to encourage voter participation, which is a good thing. Generally, once people are able to do things remotely (work, bank, shop, vote), it becomes the preferred option, though many may still prefer the traditional methods. I am in favor of expanding options for people, not restricting them.

I have been able to vote by mail for some time now, and I appreciate the opportunity to sit down with my ballot and research all of the candidates on my own time. I certainly wouldn't go back to standing in line, like people still have to do in many parts of the country. Who has time for that?

UChosePoorly, I don't disagree with your comments, my questions arise with the many options available in the US versus many European countries which have more limited access to vote and don't seem to be " DEMOCRACY IS IN DANGER!" status.

I live in Georgia and absentee vote, but they've made it more and more of a hassle. For example, I cannot request to have a ballot mailed for all elections for the next year or 5 yrs. We've lived in the same location nearly 25 yrs and aren't planning to move. What's the point of making us fax in an absentee ballot request, if not to make it a hassle? Our govt needs to do better.

They also close access to absentee ballot boxes when early voting closes. What's the point in that? Those ballot boxes are 10x more secure than a USPS box, easily. They were placed outside county buildings during COVID - with 24 hr surveillance cameras. It was convenient to drop off the ballot after 9pm. Since they moved those ballot boxes inside, if the building is closed, they aren't available. No county office is open at 9pm. More hassles.

Our govt needs to do better.

Not everyone has a normal work schedule. EVERYONE legally registered to vote should be able to vote easily. That's my stance 100%. Anything that gets in the way of easy voting needs to end ASAP.

Our govt needs to do better.

There are huge lines here during early voting too. People wait hours. There's a phone app that estimates the wait at each of 6 locations for early voting. Over 700K people have to share 6 locations!

Our govt needs to do better.

I last voted in person sometime in the 2000s. Took me 15 minutes, because I had the flexibility to vote at 10am, when most people needed to be somewhere else. At other locations, people what 2-4 hrs. Seems those other locations tend to be in low-income parts of the state. Those are the people that the govt really could help and make a positive change in their lives. For me, the govt is mostly in the way. For low-income people, without the govt, they cannot feed their kids, get to work daily, have health care for their kids. They need to exercise their right to vote, to make changes.

Our govt needs to do better.

I like completing the ballot next to a computer, so I can look up information about candidates over a few days and get to research those funky extra questions that aren't discussed, but end up on local, precinct ballots.

This year, I'll be checking whether they are liars or not. Liars will not get my vote, regardless of any other policy.

If they aren't liars, I want to know their voting record on taking abortion rights away or massively restricting those from 50% of the population. For me and my family, it is a minor inconvenience, but for many people, it is a forced birth with a life they don't want. That's effectively slavery. I'm surprised when my neighbors vote for slavery in 2022.

Next I'll look at their efforts to support everyone being able to vote who is legally registered to vote. These are the big, fundamental, issues for me. Govt spending, DoD support, immigration are all important to me too, but fundamental human rights take precedent in my mind. I regret that I can't vote against Marjorie Taylor Greene. She's evil and has no place in any govt office, even "official paper pusher." It is embarrassing that she was elected.

BTW, I put in a request for absentee ballot about 2 weeks ago. Nothing has been returned. Just checked on the request. All is fine. They plan to snailmail the ballots in a few weeks. At least my vote will offset some bigot's vote.

Excellent potential for getting rid of more crazy state laws.

True, but it won't happen. People hate it when the feds "meddle" in state affairs, even when that meddling is needed and right.

OTOH, at least we can discuss problems in public without worrying that the govt will send someone to our houses or relatives to "educate" us about being a proper citizen .... like some other places that begin with a C and an R and an I or an Af or an M. The freedom to disagree with your govt in public, on media, and be very vocal about it is a very important right for all to have in the world.

Total disagreement.

People hate it more when their constitutional rights are meddled with by state laws.

See Roe v. Wade for example.

A new clash involving religion, free speech and the rights of LGBTQ people will also be before the justices.

This has a strong chance of a favorable outcome for the plaintiff, as it has to do with free speech.
