Yet another reason I unfortunately can't move back to my home country.

Cannot possibly subject my daughter to a world where she would be forced to give birth in any scenario.

Absolutely disgusting.

I applaud the decision and think that the law was flawed, to begin with. It should never have been a Federal law, it should have always been given to each state to vote on, each state will determine its stance whether for or against it. Good on the justices for holding their ground and NOT allowing the Pro-abortionists to scare, intimidate and threaten them with violence should they vote the way THEY want. Great day for life and a great day for each state.

-50 ( +28 / -78 )

"Back to the past!" This is unreal.

My body - my choice. How can a handful of people (SCOTUS) make a decision for thousands of women?

Get out'a here! Is there anything else they will change to make life more difficult?

25 ( +46 / -21 )

The decision by the court's conservative majority

The Trump Supreme Court is taking rights away from women, but making it easier for individuals to carry guns. The radical fundamentalist herds led by Trump and his extreme right Republicans are taking the US back to its mythical wild west days, for them 'progress' has long been a pejorative. If the Trump sect of the Republican Party get congress and Trump returns to the White House look for an even greater shift to the far right, and more steps backward, the USA will look even more like Russia and Saudi Arabia. The world should worry, who knows what part he will want to add to the US empire, he failed to buy Greenland, last time he was in the White House.

13 ( +34 / -21 )

support abortion choice, but Roe has always been a poor ruling destined to become obsolete through medical advancements that continued to shorten fetus pre-viability. Abortion is an issue that should be resolved legislatively, thus reflecting the will of the people, more than half of whom are women (51%) in the U.S.

3 ( +24 / -21 )

Ridiculous! The majority of Americans support women having the right to choose but not the Supreme Court. Republicans always say that don’t want the government in their lives, and to give more power back to the states but they suddenly forget their core principles when it comes to abortions. Mix politics with religion and you know the results - the whole country goes backwards, women and minorities face legal discrimination and democracy goes out the door. Welcome to the Christian Taliban!

21 ( +35 / -14 )

This is seismic. In the #MeToo era, with a Democrat president, more than a dozen states can now crack down on women's rights like the Taliban.

Roe v Wade was perhaps the jewel in the crown of post-war Democrat politics. Any workarounds that Biden implements will be wiped out by a future Republican regime.

This is Trump's real legacy - not the theatre of tweets, gaffes and garbled speeches. The Democrats believed that they could beat any Republican. They took their foot off the gas and waved through Hillary Clinton, who turned out to be the perfect opponent for Trump. All he had to do was be in power to turn the supreme court Republican for a generation.

The moral here, is that politics is a serious business. There is no room for showboating, laziness, activists or incompetence. No matter how secure you think you are, there is rarely much margin for error. One small failure can cost you so much.

There will actually be an environmental cost to women having to move from coathanger states to places where they can get treatment. It will be a lot of airmiles. The chance of not being able to travel - lockdowns, new laws preventing women from leaving the state for an abortion, or returning after one, and cost - may see families with daughters, women and female university students move out of Republican states to places where they feel more secure. Medical staff may also leave these states. It will be interesting to see how many people migrate as a result of this.

Courtesy of the supreme court, America is no longer 'one nation under God', but two. And Americans may have to consider which they wish to live in.

18 ( +34 / -16 )

The Trump Supreme Court

Correction, it’s the Supreme Court of the US.

is taking rights away from women, but making it easier for individuals to carry guns.

No, women's right to abortion is also protected, half of the states will still allow abortion, so if the left want access to abortion there are enough states where they can go and do it. Stop with the leftists talking points that there is doom and gloom, it’s not.

The radical fundamentalist herds led by Trump and his extreme right Republicans are taking the US back to its mythical wild west days,

Absolutely not. The law was a flawed law and should have never been ruled on the way it was. That’s the problem, big government should have never made it a federal law, it should be the decision by each state and allow the voters to decide how their states should vote on the issue and it always should have been.

for them 'progress' has long been a pejorative. If the Trump sect of the Republican Party get congress and Trump returns to the White House look for an even greater shift to the far right, and more steps backward, the USA will look even more like Russia and Saudi Arabia.

It absolutely would not, not even close, in fact, the rule of law, justice, accountability, crime etc will now be seeing a strong resurgence. We see what states like California and New York look like when their is complete lawlessness. The Dems and Biden had their chances and they squandered all of them, this President now has a 38% approval rating and Republicans are winning in local an state races that they have never won before. The people are saying they don’t trust Democrats and it’s enough. That’s according to the voters, ain’t got nothing to do with Trump.

The world should worry,

No, the US should feel a huge sigh of relief

who knows what part he will want to add to the US empire, he failed to buy Greenland, last time he was in the White House.

Ok, now we are just spinning our wheels as we move along on this. Again, the Justices did the right thing and proud that they never caved to the vicious hate, threats and intimidation that was thrown their way. They were unwavering and we saw that democracy prevailed today.

-27 ( +20 / -47 )

So 4 old men and a Catholic zealot decided that they knew better than women what to do with their bodies.

There are at least 5 sitting SCOTUS justices who lied during their nomination hearings. They called it settled law. They talked about precedent. They were lying the entire time.

Usually when the Court overturns itself, it’s because the country has changed as in Plessy vs. Ferguson or Brown v Board of Education or the facts have changed.

But neither is true here. A solid 2/3 majority of the US favors Roe and the support for abortion rights themselves is higher and that has never changed.

The science has not changed either. Abortion is safe. We know this because last time the zealots tried restrict it claiming safety until RGB elicited evidence that it had a lower risk of complications than eye surgery which was being handled on an outpatient basis without any fuss at all. .

No, make no mistake: This right was revoked because a small sliver holding the ridiculous position that if the constitution, written 250 years ago, doesn’t mention it specifically, you don’t have the right to it decided that they don’t like women controlling their bodies.

It’s really that simple.

So they say it was wrong from the start. To do otherwise would reveal them to be the cynical hypocrites they are.

(Fun Fact: the right to carry an AR, or any other fire arm, outside the home is not specifically mentioned in the Constitution either. Oops)

Scalia’s mini-me was at pains to state that this ruling seals only with abortion. Do not believe it. A whole host of individual rights not mentioned in the Constitution are on the block. Here is a by no means comprehensive list:

Gay marriage (this is the big one)

Gay rights in the workplace

Inter-racial marriage

contraception

But don’t take my word for it. None other than the stain on Marshal’s legacy Clearance Thomas said he would welcome exactly that (Although I bet Clarence wouldn’t vote to overturn inter-racial marriage because that would infringe on HIS right. Can’t have that.)

So here we are, in “The Hand Maiden’s tale” because Mitch violated Senate norms (I would add his own scruples, but he doesn’t have any) and put in 2 unqualified liars, one of whom thinks having 6 kids means she knows better than other women their circumstances, the other of whom is a drunken perv in control of every woman’s body.

I really hope that women and the men who respect them remember this at the ballot box.

14 ( +31 / -17 )

This is why Kavanaugh should of been impeach, the court has no credibility, when a bunch of religious zealots are in charge,Biden will appoint at least justice, before his first term end

2 ( +20 / -18 )

What a country! I’m some states you can’t have an abortion but you can walk down the street and to the next Walmart and get yourself a rifle. Honestly, the lights are out in the States

23 ( +38 / -15 )

A sad day in the US. "...wrongly decided because the U.S. Constitution makes no specific mention of abortion rights." By that logic, I suppose most medical procedures are not supported by the constitution. The triumph of archaic religious thinking over reason and science. So much for the separation of church and State in the US.

Anti-abortionists overlook the result of poverty, child neglect and increased crime that results when women give birth either too early or at the wrong time and in the wrong circumstances. A childhood in neglectful state care leads to a difficult adulthood. Yet women who give birth too early are still never giving to have more than two children on average, even though each has abut 300 eggs and potential lives.

Abortion is a tragic but realistic choice that builds better communities and stronger lives. If anti-abortionists cared for children, why is state care and foster care lacking? Better still, why not make pregnancy tests and abortion pills free and readily available, even by mail?

This is America. You cannot abort a fetus but you can shoot children by the dozens and the courts and Congress guarantee that everyone will have the arsenal with which to do it. Make America Great Again????

11 ( +25 / -14 )

There are at least 5 sitting SCOTUS justices who lied during their nomination hearings. They called it settled law. They talked about precedent. They were lying the entire time.

They didn’t lie. Even Johnathan Turley (no conservative) was there at the hearings and said, none of these justices lied and the the Senators knew where they stood, I did. But Collins and Manchin didn’t, many of us watched the hearings they always thought R v.W was a flawed law and it was, even RBG, a woman that supported abortion felt it was written wrong.

This right was revoked because a small sliver holding the ridiculous position that if the constitution, written 250 years ago,

The founding fathers created these rules that we live by, basic fundamental rules that are enshrined. The Constitution is not a living breathing changing document. This is why the Democrats continue to lose because they think all laws, rules and societal norms should be changed according to how they feel and they keep hitting these roadblocks.

-26 ( +12 / -38 )

Avenger , money is the constitution, how many poor people do not get justice, because they do not have access to a court, you showed your true right wing colors, even in Ukraine abortion are legal

3 ( +11 / -8 )

Now that the people who have worked so hard and so long for the "Right to Life" have succedeed, I look forward to their campaign to stamp out the death penalty in the U.S.

Not so sure that will happen though.

America, sadly more like Saudi Arabia every day. What an embarrassment to the world.

9 ( +25 / -16 )

70+ million babies killed since R v W!!

30+% of those being unborn black babies!!

Achieving exactly what Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Singer wanted!!

Eugenics!

Abortion has always been designed to eliminate the undesirables in the U.S.

Which is why the majority of PP clinics are in minority-dominated areas.

-19 ( +13 / -32 )

Another fantastic day for America and Americans with values.

Roe vs Wade has been a blight on the soul of America for half a century.

No more.

-26 ( +13 / -39 )

America, sadly more like Saudi Arabia every day.

Nonsense, when America starts following Islamic laws you can say that.

What an embarrassment to the world.

It doesn’t matter what the world thinks, it’s about the US and the right that each state should govern and decide the issue and by the Federal government.

-27 ( +9 / -36 )

Disgusting.

Why not just officially classify women and being the property of men and get it over with.

I cannot believe that people can in good conscience, legally force a woman to remain pregnant and birth a child; condemning that person to a life sentence of being a parent when they did not want to be. Pro-life very clearly actually means pro-dictatorship, or pro-hatingWomen.

America, I R Disappoint.

Yet another reason I unfortunately can't move back to my home country.

Cannot possibly subject my daughter to a world where she would be forced to give birth in any scenario.

Absolutely disgusting.

Don't worry, I'v got a great solution.

Just ask her to take advantage of the myriad forms of birth control and to refrain from degenerate, promiscuous sex.

It's pretty easy, really.

-11 ( +14 / -25 )

What song comes to mind about this historic event? Mmm oh yeah

“It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood,

A beautiful day for a neighbor.

Would you be mine?

Could you be mine?

Please won’t you be my neighbor?”

Mr. Rodgers theme song.

Have a wonderful day everyone and remember these women, shoot sorry I forget sometimes these birthing-people can go to other states to get there abortions. It’s still a free country.

-15 ( +11 / -26 )

Oh, they absolutely lied. They talked about settled law and respect for precedent, all the while, they were waiting to overturn the decision because THAT was what they were out there for.

Do not lecture me on the United States Constitution. I am well aware of its creation and the balancing of different legal theories during the back and forth of its writing.

The dead document theory - a favorite of Scalia because it allowed him to pick and choose (which is exactly what he did: See Bush v Gore States rights indeed) claims that the document is set at the time of writing and is immutable save an Amendment for all time.

Antonin was not fond of having it pointed out to him that this was silly on its face - that no document, no matter how perfectly constructed, could foresee the future with clarity.

Thus the eminently more logical living document theory of Constitutional Law which recognizes the balance between different interests in the United States and allows for the living to govern themselves (what an idea!) by adapting immutable rights (equal treatment under the law for example) to current circumstances (Gay Marriage).

This is the true beauty of the law regardless of what the Federalist Society claims.

There is nothing “conservative” or “constitutional” about this ruling. The term “Constitutional Conservative “ has been made an oxymoron after January 6th and is not a title but a pejorative and a stain on American society.

No, this is nothing more than one part of society gaining power and using that power to strip rights from a much larger segment of society for two reasons: because they don’t like that right and because they can. The rest is just window dressing

Allow me to explain the difference between religious faith and religious fascism. Faith is when one’s belief in a deity of some variant that drives one’s OWN behavior. Not eating meat on Friday during Lent for example.

When one decides that ones beliefs demand making decisions about how others live THEIR lives. That’s not faith. That’s fascism. It’s deeply un-American, it has no place in American law and the proper response to its proponents (in addition to voting) is a two-word compound with the second word being “You”.

-1 ( +10 / -11 )

In killing Roe vs Wade the Supreme Court has become the enemy of the majority of the American people. Thus, Trump has created a moral disaster with is Supreme Court appointees that will likely last for generations.

Just remember: This is not the end of abortion in the U.S. It is the new beginning.

Good morning to the new civil "war."

5 ( +16 / -11 )

Trust in the Supreme Court is already at an all time low of 25% and this mistaken decision will erode that even further.

It's easy to see why? Between Mitch McConnell and Trump, they have undemocratically packed the court with judges who lied during their confirmation hearings that they considered Roe as settled law.

It's now time to unpack the court by installing new justices. The GoP have created a political body out of the SCOTUS and the only way to fix it is to install new judges.

8 ( +16 / -8 )

Still waiting for that explanation.

Having an abortion affects only the woman.

Refusing a safe and effective vaccine makes the likelihood hood of one becoming a carrier and thus a spreader of a possibly deadly virus. In other words their selfish actions affect the lives of others.

I suspect you are already aware of this. If you are not, this discussion is beyond you.

And as was pointed out, losing privileges is not the same as being forced to take a vaccine.

6 ( +12 / -6 )

Do not lecture me on the United States Constitution. I am well aware of its creation and the balancing of different legal theories during the back and forth of its writing.

Let me stop you right there. You need to be lectured.

Abortion is, and has never been, a constitutional right.

Which was the basis for it being overturned.

-11 ( +10 / -21 )

Yet another reason I unfortunately can't move back to my home country.

Cannot possibly subject my daughter to a world where she would be forced to give birth in any scenario.

Absolutely disgusting.

You do realise that there's also no constitutional right to an abortion in Japan, right? (or any other country for that matter)

1 ( +10 / -9 )

They are going after marriage equality next. I can really see this backfiring for the GoP. Democrats have never been energised by abortion as a voting issue, because they never thought Roe would be stupidly repealed. This will get many Dems out and voting.

The GoP are like the dog that have finally caught the car. Now what?

8 ( +13 / -5 )

If a man rapes his daughter at gunpoint and she gets pregnant, the party with the most rights is the gun.

5 ( +18 / -13 )

Express sister

If a man rapes his daughter at gunpoint and she gets pregnant, the party with the most rights is the gun.

Yep. States don't have the right to pass common-sense gun safety laws, because a well regulated militia can't have any rules.

Yet, they are completely free to pass draconian abortion laws, because women shouldn't have rights. /s

12 ( +20 / -8 )

Oh, this is an interesting comment.

What are the legal reasons who Kavenaugh should have been impeached??

-8 ( +7 / -15 )

Who will suffer to most in the killing of Roe vs Wade? The poor. The rich and the well-off have mobility and thus the means to get good and legal abortions. The poor do not. The poor stuck in the Bible Belt (so-called) will be among the Trump court's most likely and most vulnerable victims. A lot poor women will die because of Trump. When we have put aside Trump's other evil acts we will remember the killing of Roe vs Wade and the inevitable deaths of many innocent women.

What about cases of rape? Not at all easy...

2020 hindsights is under the impression that women will not be able to have an abortion in the extremely rare case of rape.

That is the go-to argument for pro-abortonists. It is not based in reality and ignores the fact that 99% of abortions are used as birth control.

Having an abortion affects only the woman.

Nemo - tell that to the babies who are torn limb from limb in an abortion procedure.

-11 ( +8 / -19 )

Being an unapologetic pro life supporter, I applaud this outcome, even if it only means that each state now gets to choose for themselves.

it was never a women’s rights issue for me. It was purely for the protection of an unborn child right to live.

The fact that pro-choice supporters were using the argument and conflating it to denying women’s right to choose actually sickened me.

A right to choose or a right to live… not a difficult decision for me

-14 ( +9 / -23 )

The staggering collapse of the US into a Christian-Fascist authoritarian hellhole continues.

12 ( +26 / -14 )

Oh, they absolutely lied. They talked about settled law and respect for precedent,

No, they did not lie, Turley just stated that as he was there for the hearings, the man is a liberals and supported his nomination. if the left want to make that outlandish charge and thinks it’s going to help them, they’re going to be even more disappointed.

all the while, they were waiting to overturn the decision because THAT was what they were out there for.

As it should have been. It should have always been a stateside issue and not a Federal one.

Do not lecture me on the United States Constitution.

No one is lecturing you, the Supreme Court lectured the public and nation that the Constitution still matters.

The dead document theory - a favorite of Scalia because it allowed him to pick and choose (which is exactly what he did: See Bush v Gore States rights indeed) claims that the document is set at the time of writing and is immutable save an Amendment for all time.

Correct.

This is the true beauty of the law regardless of what the Federalist Society claims.

or what liberal justices would want it to be.

There is nothing “conservative” or “constitutional” about this ruling.

No, this is nothing more than one part of society gaining power and using that power to strip rights from a much larger segment of society for two reasons: because they don’t like that right and because they can. The rest is just window dressing

So now all of a sudden, the Dems care about a power grab. So when it comes to guns it’s ok because they kill people (essentially the nexus of their argument) but reversing a faulty ruling that should have never been handed to the Federal government was a just ruling? Give me a break.

When one decides that ones beliefs demand making decisions about how others live THEIR lives. That’s not faith. That’s fascism.

Again, now the Dems claim the ruling is fascism..because it allows each state to have a say and vote on the issue? Hogwash.

It’s deeply un-American, it has no place in American law and the proper response to its proponents (in addition to voting) is a two-word compound with the second word being “You”.

I disagree, Roe v. Wade was un-American and the justices did the right thing by enshrining the rights of the public and made sure they have the constitutional right and responsibility to vote on the issue by its citizens. There are 26 states that will still uphold abortion rights. Abortion will not go away and if you are in a state that prohibits it, then go to a state that provides it, but you are not regulated or barred from having an abortion if that is what you wish.

-23 ( +8 / -31 )

This doesn’t surprise me in the least. Americans are very conservative and most prefer they were living in the good old days. Watch out other minorities.

-15 ( +13 / -28 )

This ruling, coming so close after the asinine gun ruling makes me think that the States wants to self destruct. How absolutely abhorrent and vile of them to take away the choice of what girls and women can do with their own bodies. Whoever approved of this decision should be ashamed of themselves.

The Republicans own this now. Even most of GOPers support a woman's right to choose, but their vocal minority will make it hell for state Republicans to follow the wishes of their constituency.

Get ready for women in need to flood liberal US states with "abortion tourism." California is already gearing up for some expected 9,000 - 12,000 women from neighboring states coming in for care. Once again, Repubs provide clear proof that they are nothing but liars and scoundrels...

“It is important precedent of the Supreme Court that has been reaffirmed many times,” Kavanaugh said of Roe. “It is not as if it is just a run of the mill case that was decided and never been reconsidered, but Casey specifically reconsidered it, applied the stare decisis factors, and decided to reaffirm it. That makes Casey a precedent on precedent.”

Gorsuch, in 2017, would only characterize Roe as “a precedent of the U.S. Supreme Court” reaffirmed by several subsequent cases. He went on to say that precedent fills out U.S. law. “Once a case is settled, that adds to the determinacy of the law. What was once a hotly contested issue is no longer a hotly contested issue. We move forward,” he added.

They moved forward alright - forward toward their dream of a far-right authoritarian state where the government takes away the rights of women - just like the Taliban...

This week we were provided two vivid examples of outright Repub untruthfulness....this example and the Jan 6th committee hearings which showed Trump and his band of insurrectionists KNEW they lost, but continued with the fake fraud allegations to stage a coup and fleece his flock....

Americans are very conservative and most prefer they were living in the good old days.

I don't think that's true at all. The Supreme Court clearly is, the majority of its members having been appointed by Republican majorities in the Senate, but an upper house in which each State gets two Senators regardless of population size can hardly be considered representative.

10 ( +15 / -5 )

Once again, Repubs provide clear proof that they are nothing but liars and scoundrels...

If liberals think that name calling to these justices will help their causes won’t help their cause. They didn’t lie, their hearings were public, I watched them and they were very vocal about how they viewed this flawed ruling.

They moved forward alright - forward toward their dream of a far-right authoritarian state where the government takes away the rights of women - just like the Taliban...

No, what they did was doing what the Constitution stated and given back the rights to its states citizens to vote on the issue as if should always have been. Why do the left love big government intrusion into all lives of Americans.

This week we were provided two vivid examples of outright Repub untruthfulness....this example and the Jan 6th committee hearings

That sham hearing show will now be postponed, not to mention viewership is wavering, but they have nothing so now they want to move all their resources to towards this issue. Trump or J6 has nothing to do with this issue.

@Laguna

“Get ready for women in need to flood liberal US states with "abortion tourism."

Holy smokes, you mean to tell me that Capitalism works? Thanks for making the point for us. Abortions aren’t being banned in every single state.

Looks like these leftist states will be making lots of money and if all goes well those leftist birthing-people who live in states where abortions are banned or curtailed, they just might end up moving to one of those utopian leftist states they love so much.

So what’s the problem. It’s a win-win situation for everyone in America!

-6 ( +7 / -13 )

The Supreme Court that originally ruled on roe v wade did so by finding”an emanation from the penumbra”of privacy laws to show that the constitution supports abortion. That nonsense ruling, by 9 white men (activists) was what was corrected today. If the majority of Americans want federal abortion then congress should do its job and pass legislation. The court did its job correctly today.

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

I don't think that's true at all.

The majority of Americans are definitely center right. Yes, the Dems are trying very hard to change that, more reason as to why they want to change the electorate by changing the makeup of the nation by replacing the US voter. This is why we have a border that’s a sieve. But that plan could possible backfire on them.

-15 ( +9 / -24 )

These so called “conservatives” are being shown for what they truly are. Regressive bigots and totally out of touch with society at large.

11 ( +18 / -7 )

The majority of Americans are definitely center right.

Then why have the GOP won the popular vote for President only once in the last 30 years?

Thank God I don't live in that mockery of fascist "democracy"..

We don’t vote in a President based on the popular vote

I’m aware. That doesn’t negate the fact that the majority of Americans don’t vote GOP.

Where is it specifically written in our Constitution that abortions are protected? The Supreme Court corrected a bad decision it made nearly a half century ago. Now, the choice to allow abortions correctly reverts back to the individual states. Nothing has changed in America based on this ruling.

-8 ( +9 / -17 )

All these “my bodies my choice” folks were nowhere to be found and were the loudest about forcing mandates left and right. You couldnt go into a restaurant, mask police, vaccine proof, no vaccine people fired, etc. even though you could still spread it after vaccine and all sorts of data to prove what they were trying to force on everyone wasn’t the answer. Id recommend watching the interview of a doctor who had previously did abortions (after a certain amount of weeks) describing pulling out limbs ripping body parts out. Maybe the two sides can hold an adult discussion on when is the latest it should be done. And if it’s too late, set a system to help these fully support them with federal money, adoptions, etc

The decision by the court sends the decisions to the states. Stop pushing a different narrative. let’s see if these radicals can act in a calm matter and not resort to violence and work in a way to go forward.

I don't think that's true at all.

The majority of Americans are definitely center right.

How do the Democrats ever get majorities, then?

10 ( +13 / -3 )

I’m aware. That doesn’t negate the fact that the majority of Americans don’t vote GOP.

If that were true then Republicans wouldn’t be winning local and state elections everywhere. You need to look at what’s going on and time and popularity is not on the Democrats side.

This will be a new concept for you, but I actually care about people who aren’t me. It’s called “empathy”.

I feel the same and I prefer more people govern their states the way they want and that each citizen in their own state can decide what and how they want to move forward with this, that is democracy in its purest form.

-12 ( +7 / -19 )

I simply refuse to have my values used against me

If you abandon your values the instant they become inconvenient to you, they’re not values. They’re hobbies.

Conservatives care nothing for human life, they only care about control of others.

11 ( +19 / -8 )

Why do the left love big government intrusion into all lives of Americans.

Ha ha! I figured someone would come up with that - thanks, Bass.

Let's think about this logically: the Democrats support a woman's right to choose - that is, no government intrusion. The Republicans support government intrusion into reproductive rights, one of the most private areas of life. Funny how Republicans are always against big government until they are.

The decision by the court sends the decisions to the states.

And yet the states can't be trusted to pass gun safety laws to save lives. One word can sum up the current SCOTUS. Hypocritical. Also, they are decidedly not pro-life.

Master -

Don't worry, I'v got a great solution.

Just ask her to take advantage of the myriad forms of birth control and to refrain from degenerate, promiscuous sex.

It's pretty easy, really.

Yet another man who hates/is scared of women. I have a strong suspicion as to why, but will refrain from stating it.

This decision by a nation that is falling apart will just force women who cannot afford interstate procedures into dangerous, illegal clinics.

The US is moving closer to an islamic-style theocracy. Failed state.

5 ( +15 / -10 )

Now, if conservatives could only find a way to have every American baby born with a sidearm, and come out shooting, will they be happy.

it was never a women’s rights issue for me. It was purely for the protection of an unborn child right to live.

If the unborn has rights, why does the mother have none?

If 'life' is so damn sacred, why does America still have the death penalty? Why does it still allow children to buy guns and murder people? Do those lives not matter?

A fetus that lives due to this law, will have a wonderful fulfilling life with caring parents, you think?

I would rather live knowing my parents wanted me, rather than knowing I was alive because my mother wa subjugated by religious zealots and forced to give birth under duress.

How do the Democrats ever get majorities, then?

By trying to replace the current electorate.

Another nonsense conspiracy theory.

10 ( +18 / -8 )

@Mat women have the right to use protection and be more responsible. Rapes and incest are very low numbers for abortions.

Your for women's rights ,but not when it comes to sports right? So which is it woman’s rights or trans-rights? You leftist are so confused you don’t even know what a woman is.

The babie has a right to live period! Don’t want an abortion, don’t have sex or be responsible.

-10 ( +6 / -16 )

The number of abortions will not go down, but deaths from underground abortions and suicides will go up.

This decision by a nation that is falling apart will just force women who cannot afford interstate procedures into dangerous, illegal clinics.

It won't. Thats an oft-repeated fallacy by pro-abortionists. Not based on actual reality.

Sure, put your head in the sand and believe that this won't lead directly to back-alley abortions like it was before Roe vs Wade. Poor people, who make up the vast majority of people needing abortions, won't be able to cross state lines and will decide to put their own lives at risk and get an illegal abortion.

One thing can be said about this horrendous decision is that it is decidedly not pro-life.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

women have the right to use protection and be more responsible. Rapes and incest are very low numbers for abortions.

Murder is very rare compared to other crimes. So we might as well ignore murders.

Your for women's rights ,but not when it comes to sports right? So which is it woman’s rights or trans-rights?

First, we all know you don’t care about women’s sports. Second, trans rights do not infringe on women’s rights, and vice-versa.

You leftist are so confused you don’t even know what a woman is.

Enlighten us: define woman in such a way that includes all women and excludes anyone who is not a woman.

The babie has a right to live period!

An embryo is not a baby.

Don’t want an abortion, don’t have sex or be responsible.

I know that it’s very easy for you not to have sex, but some of us actually enjoy having fun with other people.

Two rulings in two days that are actually starting to make the US actually look like Gilead. The coup is coming. I shall never visit the country again. Appalling for 2022. Totally beyond belief.

the back-alley abortion myth has been debunked for decades.

https://www.liveaction.org/news/debunking-the-myth-of-back-alley-abortions/

Knowing that if a true poll were taken, we would be soundly defeated, we simply fabricated the results of fictional polls. We announced to the media that we had taken polls and that 60% of Americans were in favor of permissive abortion. This is the tactic of the self-fulfilling lie. Few people care to be in the minority.

We aroused enough sympathy to sell our program of permissive abortion by fabricating the number of illegal abortions done annually in the U.S. The actual figure was approaching 100,000 but the figure we gave to the media repeatedly was 1,000,000. Repeating the big lie often enough convinces the public. The number of women dying from illegal abortions was around 200 – 250 annually. The figure constantly fed to the media was 10,000.

These false figures took root in the consciousness of Americans convincing many that we needed to crack the abortion law. Another myth we fed to the public through the media was that legalizing abortion would only mean that the abortions taking place illegally would then be done legally. In fact, of course, abortion is now being used as a primary method of birth control in the U.S. and the annual number of abortions has increased by 1500% since legalization.

One thing can be said about this horrendous decision is that it is decidedly not pro-life.

It is the very definition of pro-life.

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

I'm not sure why anyone would be celebrating this decision. History tells us two things:

The number of abortions will not decline even slightly. The number of safe abortions, on the other hand, will decline greatly.

The number of women who die will increase, while the number of fetuses aborted will stay about the same. The end result? More deaths.
10 ( +14 / -4 )

Way too much hysterics here.

Even RBG said that Row was weakly argued and written and it was only a matter of time before it would be over turned.

It goes to the states to decide and so far all 13 states that ban abortion have rape, incest, and life of the mother exceptions. NY, CA, IL, IA, WA, and OR have passed bills to codify abortion rights.

Stop the hysterics and go live your life. It is too short to get outraged over any and everything.

Yes indeed. The party of "Love and Compassion" are about to set loose their Brownshirts in the streets.

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

I doubt it @master. I visited your country many times from the early 90s thru to when Covid began. The lasting few trips it was blatantly obvious that Trump had changed the country for the worse from an outsiders point of view. The hate and division was blatant on both sides. Sad.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

I have simple statements to make on this.

Many "pro-birth" folks (they are not pro-LIFE) want to enforce their moral beliefs on others in any way they can.

Roe v Wade should have never been tampered with at all. Simply put, if someone does not want to have an abortion, they don't have to have an abortion. If someone wants to have an abortion, then they can have an abortion. But this ruling shows that people that don't want to have an abortion, want to make other people not have an abortion... well that is trying to force their will on others.

I have always said this, "Religion is about governance of self before whatever you believe in. Religion should not be used for governance of others."

This decision by the supreme court is once again allowed others to use religion to govern others, not SELF.

"One hand on the bible, the other on a gun...." -Jim Croce.

Women can still choose whether they want an abortion or not , just need to go where its possible.

However the father has no choice in the matter whether the pregnancy continues or not.

Why can't the father have rights too ?

It's also very blatant to see from the many comments above that those who are pleased with the overturning of Roe vs Wade are clearly coming from a religious standpoint and are just echoing the more extreme views of a slowly liberating Catholic Church, whilst most of us who are pro choice are just shaking our heads in disbelief that a bunch of old men have effectively taken away the rights of millions of people they have nothing in common with or understand the conditions that they live in.

2 ( +9 / -7 )

Kyo wa heiwa dayo ne, the father-to-be can have abortion rights when he is the one physically carrying the baby inside of him for nine months, and then going through pain worse than burning alive to bring it into the world. Until then, he can keep his opinions about what his partner does with her body entirely to himself.

1 ( +9 / -8 )

removes the rights of hundreds of millions of people

What “right”’is this?

where is this “right” indicated?

just move to a state that allows it.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

No rights were taken away.

Not true. More than a dozen states have already banned abortion, and moving to a new state isn't easy, nor does it make sense to move to a new state just to have a procedure that was previously legal in the state.

you simply choose to live in a state that allows it- if it’s an actual issue for you.

Except now the GOP wants to ban it nationally.

https://edition.cnn.com/2022/06/24/politics/republican-reaction-abortion-congress/index.html

They also want to ban contraceptives. They're insane.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

I would rather live knowing my parents wanted me, rather than knowing I was alive because my mother wa subjugated by religious zealots and forced to give birth under duress.

its worse than that many states will not allow abortions even if the woman has been violently raped, or even raped by a family member, seriously which woman would want to give berth and raise a kid under those condition

2 ( +7 / -5 )

@Blacklabel : And there you go again, just using the 'liberal' excuse. What a load of rubbish.

This affects woman who are forced into sex without contraception by means of abuse, to a those who were trying to be responsible by using a condom that broke.

It is about taking away 'rights' and the fact you have to bring guns and the constitution into it shows how misguided your views are and ultimately what Trump did to your country and the extreme divisions he bought to it that had been tempered by Presidents from both parties for years.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

make sense to move to a new state just to have a procedure that was previously legal in the state.

It’s not legal now. Get to moving if this is the most important thing in your life.

if it was actually a “right” it would not have been able to be taken away so easily.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

Today, reproductive rights. Next Marriage rights, gay rights, racial rights. They weren’t in the constitution.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

It is about taking away 'rights'

There rights are NOT taken away, women can still have an abortion, there are 26 states that will allow it, but again, it should be a States rights issue and not dictated by 9 Justices, give the power back to the people so that they can make the appropriate choice for their state, that is pure democracy and that is empowering people and allowing them to have a say. The Justice's followed the law and upheld the Constitution. I definitely can sleep well tonight.

-11 ( +3 / -14 )

if it was actually a “right” it would not have been able to be taken away so easily.

Lmao What does this even mean? It was a right until the supreme court took it away. Imagine being this invested in what other people choose to do with their bodies. It's a very "small government" position to take.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Today, reproductive rights. Next Marriage rights, gay rights, racial rights. They weren’t in the constitution.

Why would they be? No one is being killed and these people are adults and can make conscious choices, the unborn cannot, so to even think that is a complete and utter ruse.

-10 ( +4 / -14 )

Yes they do.

It's pretty misleading, then, for you to claim a person can just "move to a new state" when you want to ban it nationally. Pretty dishonest of the GOP, but that's just the GOP for you.

And if the people vote that way, they can. “Democracy”!

What is it about civil liberties that you hate so much?

9 ( +12 / -3 )

Clarence Thomas is nearly a weird as his wife - quite how a religious extremist is allowed into the supreme court of a secular country is inexplicable.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

@wtfjapan do you have proof that’s what these law will do? How would you know since no law has been passed yet? You and I both know you don’t read any laws, you love to just assume things and spread misinformation.

The laws against abortion in cases of rape and incest already exist in several States.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

While Americans living in Japan have mostly been very liberal on topics such as allowing a woman bodily autonomy, you wouldn't think so from reading the comments on JT. It's like an evangelical church service in Alabama.

9 ( +14 / -5 )

...and back to the 50 states this goes, as it should.

...and the side with the hyperbole and the euphemisms loses.

Facts are that most Americans are in favour of some restrictions on abortion, especially in the second and third trimesters. And most abortions do not take place in those trimesters, so it should be pretty easy to come to a compromise. The Dobbs case put the restriction at 15 weeks, seems reasonable compared ot other places.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

..and back to the 50 states this goes, as it should.

Again, Republicans want a nationwide ban.

https://edition.cnn.com/2022/06/24/politics/republican-reaction-abortion-congress/index.html

The same people shouting up and down about "states rights" are now pivoting to a nationwide ban. When the Christian fundamentalists come to power, they're going to ban abortion nationwide.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

If they genuinely oppose this, it is Obama and Biden's fault.

They play too nice. They should be appointing their own people to the Supreme Court and doing whatever it takes to get their politics through. Whatever political tactics are necessary, not all that friendly "bipartisan" nonsense. The fact that they do not do this suggests to me that they are merely Republicans in disguise.
