So who cares??

Many people do. Wake up.

I care intensely. The way she is being treated is worse than disgusting. Death by isolation. She can't even have a doctor visit except on very, very rare occasions. How long can a bunch of fatcat military dictators continue to bully one feisty woman like this?

Quote from above: "the junta — which regards the Nobel Peace laureate as the biggest threat to their rule — has found reasons to extend her periods of house arrest, which international jurors say is illegal even under Myanmar’s own law.

This problem is on a level with what is happening in Sri Lanka and Pakistan, but does not get exposure in the news as it's darker, more subtle and insidious.

Shame on the rulers of Burma! SHAME ON YOU...

I also care very much. Suu Kyi is the finest example of a human being on the Earth. She is a personal hero to me. There is no one whom I respect more than her.

Her illegal detention must not be kept of the world's daily consciences.

I care very much too. This guy's foolhardy actions have made her awful situtaion far worse. Her health is at risk and if she goes to a regular jail (as the press is reporting) she may suffer even more. Shame on Burma/Myanmar...!

I'll have to disagree middle portion of that last comment, though I echo the opening and closing sentiments. The swimmer is of no consequence here; while I doubt they go so far st to put her in "regular jail" it was almost inevitable that they would extend her house arrest, with or without a pretext. I was far more concerned when they arrested her doctor a little while ago, just as her health was failing.

May I say how glad I am that JT has chosen to publish this news, without pulling punches. The last few days I have been boiling over with anger at what is happening in Myanmar (Burma), thanks shanabelle, and because there was no sign of it here, I had begun to think that even JT was being manipulated. Let's hope we continue to be free to express the truth here, and for people all over the world to read it.

You temporary rulers of Myanmar will be having bad dreams, but it's your karma. Treat this lady decently, and your souls may be relieved!

So now the military scum is blaming her. Someone needs to shoot these criminal generals and abolish the army once and for all.

and because there was no sign of it here, I had begun to think that even JT was being manipulated.

Just be glad there wasn't a shooting in the US. Some gas station worker getting killed in Chicago is more profitable than 10 Suu Kyi stories.

“So who cares??”

Please tell me (& everybody else) that you were being sarcastic. You cannot possibly be that out of touch or cold hearted.

Something really needs to be done about Burma/ Myanmar, no more keeping the rats happy in the simple minded hope that they MIGHT change, they never will.

I forgot to add that I hope this idiot Yettaw gets 30 years for being the idiot he is.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Of all the terrible things she has had to endure these years and then this idiot swims in from America to do what? Aid the Junta in keeping Suu Kyi under house arrest? Can there be any other reason?

buddha4brains, your phrase 'this idiot from America' contains enough nuance to deflect this discussion away from what's really important and kill the thread dead. If you had just said 'this idiot', then any Americans reading these comments would not have shied away. OK, he's an idiot, and possibly idealistic, or even romantic, but he could have come from anywhere.

In the event, he has played right into the authorities' hands (unless he's some kind of 007) although I am sure they would have found some other excuse to further suffocate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

This 63 year old small woman (of less than 50kilo), happens to be the biggest threat to the 400,000 stong military and it's leaders......... ...Why?

Something really needs to be done about Burma/ Myanmar, no more keeping the rats happy in the simple minded hope that they MIGHT change, they never will.

What needs to be done, then?
