It was often observed that the late Mr. Arafat was such an incompetent, corrupt and ineffective revolutionary that the Israelis would never have assassinated him. But the KGB wouldn't have had any motive. In any case, any competent physician is trained to diagnose radiation sickness. The French officials ought to go public with what they know and end the controversy once and for all.

arafat died of aids.

state broken people: "arafat died of aids."

I think that's about the saddest comment I've seen on this site, and not at all funny.

Anyway, Arafat's long gone, so ultimately it doesn't matter HOW he died, but it could pose a problem for anyone who did it if it's found out who and how it was done. Arafat was a great many bad things, but he stood up for and fought for his people, and at one point it seemed like peace was on the table while he was there. Shame that didn't end up being the case in the end, and still isn't now.

smithinjapan: you forgot to mention that Arafat stole 100's of millions of aid money intended for his people and he is probably now sitting around a campfire in hell with Hussein and Gadhafi eating hummus..

"I think that's about the saddest comment I've seen on this site, and not at all funny."

Poor soul, he probably read it as fact in the Daly Mail again.

Its a good thing this has been reported to the world.

Now there is time for someone to dig up Arafat before these third party examiners can get to him, or at least everyone can get their alibis in order.

"When I speculated in November 2004 here at NRO and in my column in Canada's National Post that Yasser Arafat had died of AIDS, I was widely scolded for my bad manners..."

""When I speculated in November 2004 here at NRO and in my column in Canada's National Post that Yasser Arafat had died of AIDS,..."

Functional word being 'speculated', ie. no proof. Same as you don't have, State. I could just as easily say Reagan died of AIDS, with as much proof as you have to back up your claims. I doubt he did, but like I said -- you want to come here crying about everyone you don't like being supposedly gay and therefore dying of AIDS... well...

Seems like it would be more worthwhile to do a thorough examination of his bank accounts.

"Seems like it would be more worthwhile to do a thorough examination of his bank accounts."

The Swiss too...

It would seem fair to assume they have always done well from dead dictators and their minions over the years.

Mr.Arafat is dead, what is the point of bringing up this kind of information?? Rumors?? Do we really want the Palestinians etc..to go blow themselves up at the nearest bus stop in Tel Aviv?? Or to pass by an outdoor cafe in Israel etc..and KAMBOOM?? All of this will just instigate more VIOLENCE, IMHO.

The only people to benefit from the demise of Mr Arafat would seem to be his successors.

As Smith pointed out, "at one point it seemed like peace was on the table while he was there." That P-word could have been the motive of his offing. The various parties entangled in the region(locals and other meddlers) have no interest in peace. Oops, I said the P-word. Arafat died of a sudden, mysterious illness. Let's see if a re-examination of his remains happens and reveals new insight before pointing the finger.
