Sydney coronavirus cases spike as lockdown falters

So much time COVID-free where NSW could have been vaccinated. Instead, there aren't enough Pfizer vaccines to go around, less than 10% are vaccinated, and it's starting to look a whole lot like the UK and US around their peaks back in 2020. What a wasted opportunity. Gladys Berejiklian and the rest of the Liberal Government are an absolute joke. Totally tripped at the finish line. I'll be surprised if NSW doesn't end up going through the full breakout that the UK and US experienced at this stage. Too little action, too late.

Haha not at all...But let's just say there's probably a certain premier who's feeling very smug right now in his north face jacket!

Vaccination rates too low still in Australia so the government has decided a zero covid policy! Until vaccination rates are high(over 80% I would guess of adult population) the borders are closed and lock downs will keep happening.

The definition of insanity is repeating the same failed behavior in the hope it will start working. Pssst Australia, lockdowns don’t work.

Despite the slow rollout of the vaccines Australia has managed the pandemic fairly well.

They need to vaccinate the vulnerable and let everyone else catch the Delta variant- seriously. Otherwise there will be on-again, off-again lockdowns for the next 10 years.

According to the health care experts this is not a solution, vaccines do not protect perfectly, young and healthy people still get complications and can die from the infection and the only way to protect those that can't be vaccinated for valid reasons is to keep the infection from spreading in the general population.

Hindsight is 20/20, but relying exclusively on an experimental vaccine that many will not take, understandably, to control COVID was a poor choice.

One, nobody relied only on the vaccines, many other measures have been taken and they have demonstrated to be effective, and two, the vaccines already demonstrated to be extremely effective at controlling the risk from infection and even reduce transmission, it is the opposite of a poor choice.

Community spread is a key piece of herd immunity.

No it is not, becoming immune is the key, and becoming immune by vaccination is much less risky than getting the infection, so the result is the same but with less death people.
