If Australia’s death rate remains lower than Israel’s or America’s

Australias deaths per capita from covid, is 45/million.

New Zealand 5/million

USA 2024/million. 50x that of Australia

Israel 784/million. 17x that of Australia

Israel and USA both have higher vaccination rates but Australia is catching up.

They NZ Australia must have been doing something right the stats dont lie

Stating the fact that vaccinated people can still carry and spread the virus to others is not BS nor is it an excuse about the efficacy of vaccination. Its the truth. It’s science.

yes it is science, no vaccine is 100% effective, but the SCIENCE proves the vaccines dramatically u decrease your chances of becoming infected and dying of covid, compared to people who arent vaccinated.

Now show me a scientific study that proves being unvaccinated is at least as effective to protecting against covid in terms of becoming infected or dying of covid, compared to vaccinated people. the vaccine protects nearly everybody that takes it, vulnerable and normal people.

over 90% of people currently dying from covid are unvaccinated, stats shown by the CDC in Japan and many other countries. This is the truth this is the science.

Once again the science make the antivaxxer looks ignorant

Whenever you see disaster movies, humanity always works together to find a solution.

Turns out that when the disaster is a virus, we're actually our own enemies. I never thought I'd see the day where they'd come up with a medicine for a debilitating virus, and mass numbers of people refuse to get it.

It's mind-blowingly stupid.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Do the hustle

covid is here to stay and the world is going to have to live with it. The vaccine does lessen the spread but the idea is to keep people out of the ICU when they catch it.

And if enough people get it, herd immunity.

I’ve had my first dose and will have my second in a couple of weeks. This is an extremely virulent and debilitating virus that has killed a million people worldwide. Get your shots!

Stupid country. They were wrong, flat wrong to think that they could have zero-covid in the long run.

Wrong. Look at New Zealand, it is possible. What the Covid zero deniers miss is that it permits way more freedom.

But it isn't the end game. Vaccination is the end game. Hence the incentives that the article talks about.

The only rational solution was the vaccination with priority given first to the vulnerable population.

Yes. Agreed. In fact agreed by all states of Australia.

Thinking that somehow a virus can't circulate is not science, that's fanaticism. But no, the stupids did not listen, they were locked in their dogmatism and hygienism.

If there is no virus, it can't circulate. Not fanaticism. Pure science.

A great read: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/09/pandemic-australia-still-liberal-democracy/619940/

From the article:

If Australia’s death rate remains lower than Israel’s or America’s, Australian leaders can plausibly tell their citizens that the deprivation was worth it.

I would agree.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Yes, I have often agreed that these vaccines may offer some protection for vulnerable people.

It actually offers protection to everyone who gets it.

For some, the potential benefits outweigh the risks

For everyone, the benefits of immunity or at the very least heightened resistance to Covid-19 outweighs the risks of dying from Covid-19 or suffering Long Covid.

especially with the currently offered treatment options (or lack there of); those treatment options provided by governments that want to "protect" their people...

What is it today? Malaria pills? Horse dewormer? Or are you still in the pocket of Big Vitamin D?

In four weeks when, I dunno, injecting cement is promoted as a cure for Covid on Qanonnutjobs.com/flavoroftheweek you’ll be excitedly promoting that, too

It still amazes me that people keep using this BS excuse not to get vaccinated. science once again makes the deniers look ignorant

These months of house arrest for all Australians will be savagely remembered against Mr. Morrison's party at the next election. They will be crushed.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

It’s not a good idea to promise anything in advance. In the US the current administration promised to open up on July 4th. The president declared independence from covid on the White House lawn that day. He mingled among a crowd without a mask for his “mission accomplished” moment. Several weeks later the delta variant began flooding the US and the CDC reversed course yet again and told everyone to wear masks. Australia should learn from that failed example of leadership.

Indeed, someone that has just joined this forum would want to know what those valid reasons are that we've been discussing over the past several months.

I’m surprised it’s still an issue. Your, erm, ‘alternative’ sources led you to tell us that Covid had burned itself out last year.

Freedom began earlier for some...

They say that but then a new 'variant' will apparently come out of nowhere....

And antivaxxer propaganda is trying to make this a self fulfilling profecy by increasing the risk of it happening.

Just another example of coercion to get people vaccinated. They couldn't care less about people's health...

That applies much more to people that lie and mislead others with fragmented/out of context information to exaggerate the risk from vaccines and minimize the very real risks from COVID.

And you trust governments to know what's best and to enforce it by force?

The governments are not the ones that vouch for the vaccines value against the pandemic. The scientific and medical consensus is.

Indeed, someone that has just joined this forum would want to know what those valid reasons are that we've been discussing over the past several months

Unfortunately the people that supposedly have those reasons provide instead false ones or become silent when asked for proof about what they say.

Yes, I have often agreed that these vaccines may offer some protection for vulnerable people.

Much more importantly than the personal opinion of nameless people on the internet is what the experts on human health agree, and this is that vaccinating is better than not for anybody for whom the vaccine is indicated, old and young, healthy or sick. Vaccines offer protection to all.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Aussies should revolt. Governments have absolutely no right to strongarm individuals into any type of medical care, nor to decide if you can go to a pub or not. The Aussie govt should butt out of people's personal affairs.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

I note that you didn't refute that vaccines are made to protect people's health. I thank you for tacitly conceding that point.

There are plenty of valid reasons for people to avoid these vaccines.

People who are engaging in the conversation in good faith would add examples after that sentence.

Welcome to the forum P. Smith.

They aren't doing that.

Such as?

Australia - what a horrible place to live.

Just another example of coercion to get people vaccinated. They couldn't care less about people's health...

Vaccines are made to protect people's health.

But go ahead, you tell me what the alternative purpose of vaccinating people is.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

But vaccinated individuals can carry and pass on the infection!

and vaccinated only account for less that 1% of covid deaths.

its called herd immunity enough people are vaccinated the virus has a much more difficult time infecting people and killing them. vaccinations reduce the chances of death long term health problems and effectively turn the virus into a common cold in terms of infections and fatalities.

It still amazes me that people keep using this BS excuse not to get vaccinated. science once again makes the deniers look ignorant

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

Well, an incomplete strategy is also not working, of course. You still mostly say, you can live with the virus or live with a few viruses? Then show it and don’t cry all day long, because it’s wrong and they have to be extinguished completely, as they now even are followed by LongCovid effects and necessary booster vaccinations which was not an original condition when we all were said it’s easy and soon over. Stop lying to yourself, can you do that? Thanks.

Repeat after me Winston

I am once again asking for people who make allusions to 1984 to actually read the book at least once.

If the target is reached in October, Sydney residents would have spent up to four months under stay-at-home orders.

Stupid country. They were wrong, flat wrong to think that they could have zero-covid in the long run. How could this be even possible in an open world where the virus has become endemic? Only stupid people could believe that (and apparently there are still a lot them in some states there). The only rational solution was the vaccination with priority given first to the vulnerable population. Thinking that somehow a virus can't circulate is not science, that's fanaticism. But no, the stupids did not listen, they were locked in their dogmatism and hygienism.

One would think that their blatant mistakes would make them more humble and reconsider their hysteric and tyrannic way of doing things. But no, four months under say-at-home orders. The leaders in Australia are fanatics, nobody with a minimum of rationality can defend that this is right.

@Helix - How's it going to end? Pray, tell.

Hypocritical, backtracking, nasty government

Welcome to the Conservative NSW govt, led by Gladys "I will never lock this state down" Berejiklian.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

I'm not. They've been cheerleaders for harsh lockdowns and enforced injection with experimental drugs from the start. The only "progress" they seem to support is that towards authoritarianism.

Its really disturbing. They have no conception of whats really going on and how this is all going to end.

Helix

Im honestly surprised by the “progressives” here. You dont see how dangerous and manipulative this is? Short sightedness in abundance.

I agree. That's not a good roadmap for the future.

"A meal with loved ones or a drink with friends is just around the corner," deputy premier John Barilaro pledged.

People are stupid enough to swallow this?

Flatten the curve has turned into months and months of strict lockdowns...crazy stuff glad I am free to do as i please here in Japan..

Yeah, right. And when are the constant state of emergencies going to end? Don't kid yourself mate.

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

"roadmap to freedom" ???? dear oh dear oh dear!!!!! do they really think people swallow their crap?

7 ( +15 / -8 )

Given their temperaments, I don’t think anti-vaxxers should be consuming alcohol anyway.

-8 ( +10 / -18 )

Japan should do this, but set the rate at 90%.

Japan can do better than Australia at vaccination rate I feel.

-18 ( +3 / -21 )

....and just adding to that, those who are unable to be vaccinated will just have to take their dose of Covid and hopefully will be able to get the care they need to recover. It's the new world order...but not the one some expected...rather than Big Brother it seems we enter the age of Freedumb.

-11 ( +5 / -16 )

@ShinkansenCaboose.

Yes. Globally the trend is now to abandon Covid 0 strategies, and switch to living with Covid.

covid 0 was possible, but populations are simply not capable of isolating, and Governments have lost interest in compensation. Some businesses have changed operations permanently, others are returning to their 'old' practices.

Those who don't want to be vaccinated are expendable.

-6 ( +12 / -18 )

But vaccinated individuals can carry and pass on the infection!
