Hence they waited until a certain amount of people were vaccinated. Therefore it has saved thousands of lives.

and what specific amount would that be, and what science supports that number?

and how many people exactly were saved as a result? you know...data?

if a lockdown supposedly saved thousands of lives, why is it being stopped when there is no vaccine that prevents a person from getting COVID?

Because the vaccines reduce the symptoms and severity of those who get a breakthrough case of covid. Reducing death and severe symptoms requiring hospital stays. That does not seem to sink in for some posters.

Vaccines reduce your chance of getting covid and in cases that do get covid it is a mild infection rather than a deadly infection. There is no guarantee that if very highly exposed you will not get covid once vaccinated. But it will be highly likely you wont die from it.

@Blacklabel: Read your sentence. 'if a lockdown supposedly saved thousands of lives, why is it being stopped when there is no vaccine that prevents a person from getting COVID?'

We know that vaccine doesn't stop people becoming infected. No one is disputing that. You know, deep down that it DOES keep people many out of hospital and from death. Hence they waited until a certain amount of people were vaccinated. Therefore it has saved thousands of lives.

if even one life can be saved, should lockdown forever.

then people can keep dying from other stuff, while waiting in fear to go back outside.

106 days of lockdown changed nothing, just cost people 106 days of their lives.

It saved thousands of lives. Some care nothing for the lives of others, while some consider every life to be worth trying to save.

Why would you need a booster shot if the vaccine, which is not a vaccine, was so effective?

If you've ever travelled to Japan you'd know that Japan requires vaccines! Hepatitis vaccines also need booster shots as well. Many vaccines are like that

He's started making decisions on Political and Financial grounds whilst ignoring health advice which is evident by his silencing of senior Health officials who are no longer rolled out to support the government at media events.

This is what politicians are elected to do. If the country was run entirely based on health advice, then you would have that hideous Dr. Kerry Chant in charge and nobody would be allowed to leave their homes.

NSW is leading the way in bringing Australia in line with the rest of the developed world, and hopefully the leaders in the other states can follow suit. It will thankfully give some fortunate Australians a chance to flee the country and seek refuge in move livable conditions.

Lockdowns work but I don't want to be living in a place where lockdowns are necessary or the govt thinks it's necessary.

But it is what it is, I'm happy for Australia that conditions are now such that the lockdown can be lifted

Ah yes that would be congratulations for the lockdown that ended for the vaccinated ofcourse .

Obviously the lockdown hasn't ended for the unvaccinated if you read the article you would know .

You proposed living with Covid WITHOUT vaccinations.

oh so everyone in Sydney is vaccinated now? if so, then congratulations!

But you will still have COVID cases anyway.

-14 ( +6 / -20 )

People can now get on with life not being worried about being hospitalized.

yet vaccinated people can still get COVID and are still being hospitalized and even dying.

So what makes you think everything is ok now compared to the last 106 days?

-14 ( +5 / -19 )

And Blacklabel. You proposed living with Covid WITHOUT vaccinations. That's a very very different thing.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

What utter poppycock @Blacklabel. How many lives did it potentially save in an unvaccinated population?A lot more than 106 I'd hazard a guess. People can now get on with life not being worried about being hospitalized. Sure, infections will continue to spike. We all know that.

Scott Morrison should be tossed from office for negligence though as he could have achieved this in the Spring.

CNN: Australia's biggest city is starting to live with Covid

Which is exactly what a lot of us have been proposing from the beginning.

Live with COVID, its not going anywhere. 106 days of lockdown changed nothing, just cost people 106 days of their lives.

At 70% they have opened up too early. Deaths will rise. Sad.

Im looking for a bookie that will take a big punt on new lockdowns straight after christmas.

Going by past behaviour of state governments in Aus, I reckon its a sure thing when the numbers surge, which they will.

If you want to travel overseas, id be booking now for Nov/December because that window is get out is going to be a small one.

The case numbers in some areas of New South Wales are a little high and they are growing in other places. However, NSW has reached 70% double vaccinated and it will increase to over 80% by the end of October. This means that there will be no future lockdowns in NSW. Now, it’s a matter of the other states of Australia catching up with their vaccinations to open all the borders.

So, the lockdown worked again then, did it?

Sure hope we can have strict lockdowns here in Japan too!

Freedom from prison only for the vaccinated (Many coerced). Segregation and discrimination in Australia. Sad.

Burning Bush. If you researched this properly

Maybe there weren't any pictures or diagrams.

Just looked at worldometer cases and deaths for Australia. Worse now than when 106 day period started.

Australian gov’t: “Oh, well, sorry for wrecking your lives”

4 ( +13 / -9 )

Oh, I forgot they were still under a lockdown there,

while we have been enjoying our life here in Japan !

Shaggy haired Australians coming out of a 100 day lockdown of "blood ,sweat and no beers"

The down under lockdown is unlocked.

Congratulations

Burning Bush - no, they haven't banned both funerals and online listening comprehension classes.

7 ( +15 / -8 )

It’s not just Sydney. It’s the whole of New South Wales. I need a hair cut!

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Funerals were not 'banned' @Burning Bush. If you researched this properly with 5% of the vigor you put it into discrediting lockdown and vaccines you will find the rules that were in place. Don't sensationalize.

Well,

Tie me kangaroo down sport.
