Hearts out to the Syrian people caught in the nasty, ongoing (and never ending?) wars fought by terrorist forces financed by the US and other 'western' nations, plus Saudi, the UAE, Turkey and others, and by Assad's tyrannical forces backed and puppet-ed by Russia and Iran's respective tyrannical forces.

Terrorism or tyranny. Choices created in part by the global oil and gas sheikhs, czars and robber barons.

Until alternatives to burning so much oil and gas play bigger roles in the world's economy, expect more Syrias, Iraqs, Libyas.

Venezuela and Nigeria next?

Even if the get rid of illegal American invaders, finish off IS and al Nusa, they will still have attacks from a certain apartheid terriorist country next door...

Why does the article find it necessary to say "President Bashar Assad's government refers to all armed opposition and rebel groups fighting Syrian forces as 'terrorists,' not just Islamic State or al-Qaida militants." ? As the 'rebel groups' use "unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims" they obviously are terrorists, whatever their Western handlers may like to claim.

The tyrannical regime of Syria has been killing anyone they want to with no concern, and the 'rebels' or 'terrorists' (and the ISIS/ISIL group are vicious terroristic scummy brutes) and the brutal 'ethnic cleansing' that they have been doing against non-Muslims and moderate Muslims have led to the displacement and deaths of countless people in the region. Many people in Syria, Iraq and beyond have been stuck in the midst of it all and the racist Trump closed the asylum doors to all refugees from this. Obama initiated an air war against the ISIS/ISIL when they started their genocidal campaign but  it's unclear what is going on now - the American media just doesn't cover this anymore.

Oh yeah, Trump has launched air attacks on Syria but only to divert attention from his crimes. Since Syria's regime is supported by Putin's Russia and Trump was PUT IN the White House as a puppet, there's no telling which side is 'friend or foe' in this case anymore. Also since Trump is making a profit somehow out of these wars there's no way the US will leave the area. This is a new 'Vietnam', fueling a 'military-industrial complex' that Pres. Ike Eisenhower warned about in 1960.

PTownsend, good post. Frankly, that Syria ends up a puppet of Russia matters less than they just stop the slaughter (plus, Russia gets to keep its sole Mediterranean port, which is why it intervened to begin with).

A worry is what will happen should Russia and Iran have a falling-out.

Old Walid 5 bin Bellies sure isn’t missing no meals. Syria looks like Hiroshima after the bomb but at least the Russian king of Putinistan got to keep his only foreign naval base.

@starpunk. I have travelled all of Syria without a gun or hummbie. You should try the same before you make your opinion.

But Syria FM, don't forget who let Turkey in

Why does the article find it necessary to say "President Bashar Assad's government refers to all armed opposition and rebel groups fighting Syrian forces as 'terrorists,' not just Islamic State or al-Qaida militants." ?

Because that includes the Syrian Kurds
