Why is Israel attacking Syria?

If the stupid and illegal 2003 - 2011 Iraq War didn't occur, there would be no ISIL threat and things wouldn't be the mess in the region that it is. Saddam Hussein was a rotten dictator but he kept a lid on such crazy activity. Take him out of the equation and the cork came off the bottle. The genie escaped. Just days after US bombing over Syria, Israel follows up with attacks near the vicinity of Damascus. Why? Where is the legitimacy?

Because the Alevite Assad government is supported by Iran, and Israel sadly still sees Iran as its biggest enemy and prefers Wahabi Sunni radicals to the secular Assad government in Damascus.
