I am all for harmony to forge a great future.

Somehow I doubt mainland China will seriously listen to Taiwan's concerns or alter it's approach. Their plan is domination. Best bet for Taiwan is to beef up their military and strengthen alliances. IMO the US should sell F-35s to Taiwan.
Fighto!
Japan and the US should jointly recognize the full independence of Taiwan. The rest of the world will follow. To hell with Communist China. The wise nations and companies are already planning to pull out of the PRC.
OssanAmerica
The chances of China listening are zero. With the advent of a global economic depression due to Covid19 the CCP needs to keep the populace drunk on nationalism. Taking Hong Kong before the agreed time, digging in their heels in the South and East China Seas, the hostiliy towards Australia, India, Canada, etc, genocide of the Uighurs, all point to a period where China is the biggest threat to the region and world, and will take advantage of the pandemic stricken nations to advance their objectives. The world needs to support Taiwan in every way, politically, economically and militarily to protect itself from tje Chinese dictatorship.

I can only wish that the USA would have a leader like Ms.Tsai
Goodlucktoyou
Don’t buy billions of dollars of America n weapons and point them straight at China is a good start.

As long as China does the same thing

China can only point when real battle comes the run away or cry

I strongly believe that if the whole world respond to the united front formed by the US and Europe against China, China would have to change its aggressive behaviour.
It is evidenced in the way Beijing has recently praised Western Australia for leading in Australia – China relations (https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/beijing-praises-wa-for-leading-in-australia-china-relations-20200930-p560k8.html) despite Morrison Government started a fight with China over an investigation into the Covid pandemic.
From this unprecedented development, I am optimistic that China might seek to reduce its pressure on Taiwan as hoped for by the Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen.

LOL...independence or some sort of reunification. Like the way it worked out for Hong Kong? Uneducated people shouldn't post personal attacks.

Who provoked the current tension ? Liars have no shame. Unless the east Asia becomes one nation, sovereignty is always the number one thing and no nation would tolerate separationists.

Taiwan is so nice humble democratic nation. It deserves a support from all democratic countries.
Akie
Peter Wright, if Taiwan is really democratic, why the most democratic nations wouldn't support her ?
Akie
A govt not supported by the super majority 1.4 billion people call itself democratic, what a joke !

China has been working hard to destabilize the region. Hong Kong was just a stepping stone. Trying to make nice is the perfect move until the island is over run by the communist military.

ossanamerica:
That is for the Taiwanese to decide, not for you Americans. Americans should really stick to their own problems in their own backyard. This anti-communist sentiment is just really an excuse. If China didn't have the CCP, you would still be mad that America is losing its monopoly on global power.

But no, ossanamerica is represented by a would-be dictator who loves the company of Putin, Kim and Xi (before he said he didn't want to help him win the US elections).

Taiwan is democratic and elects its own leaders. There is stability in the region and relations with China is good depending on the ruling party yet the west is not going to recognize Taiwan and will defer to China and its one China policy. Until the one China policy is changed, all this talk is just a barking chihuahua.
Akie
quercetum said "Taiwan is democratic and elects its own leaders. "
You never been in Taiwan, have you ? What a joke "elects its own leaders". No, that is false. You have no right to elect you own leaders, you are only provided with a few people chosen by parties. If you are provided with thugs, you stuck with it, you can't change it, as simple as that.
Appearance can't be deceiving.
Strangerland
The people of the world support the democratic independent nation of Taiwan in its fight against China who is trying to take it over. The world must not allow that. The democratic free people of Taiwan deserve better.
Zaphod
Good luck with that.... alas that does not depend on her, but on the CCP, which currently is on a course for more radicalization.

Because of greed and corruption.... many governments saw bigger markets in Communist China, and many others (especially small nations) allowed themselves to be bribed by the CCP. Hopefully that is changing now, as the reality sinks in how how bad the CCP is.

China will only listen to Taiwan's President English Tsai if the USA and Japan re-establishes full diplomatic ties with ROC-Taiwan.
If Washingjing and Tokyojing still insists on not giving TW diplomatic love then Chairman Xi JP will never hear what President Tsai says and will only give thanks to America and Japan for obeying his da-kine command.
That is the plain truth of the matter.
Both Trump and Suga are in connivance with Xi.
Hoping Donald Trump re-establishes full diplomatic ties with TW-ROC which will pave the way for his landslide win over Byedin!
Hiro S Nobumasa
Taiwan's isolation started when Washingjing and Tokyojing both kowtowed to Beijing by cutting off ISIS-style the diplomatic neck that once connected both to democratic Taipei.
President Tsai should also have pleaded with TrumpXi and SugaXi to re-establish diplomatic love with her country so that both will cease act like XiZombies and be the da-kine real loyal allies Trump and Suga again!

She is saying that for appearance sake, for political / diplomatic reasons with no hope of China changing its ways. As my mother used to say, wish in one hand and poo (she used an earthier word for it) in the other hand and see which one fills up faster. China under Xi Jinping isn't going to reduce tensions. That's a pipe dream but she has to say it in public. If anything China under Xi will continue to increase the threats to Taiwan. The US needs to step up assistance to the Taiwanese military including high fidelity exercises in the US with their best adversary units (Top Gun, Fort Irwin, etc.) as well as US forces conducting exercises with the Taiwanese on and around Taiwan. The US should even ask Taiwan to allow US forces to deploy there regularly from the US and to host visits by US Navy carrier strike groups since Hong Kong is now off limits.
Desert Tortoise
The truth is that were the US or Japan to offer Taiwan formal diplomatic recognition it would imply to the Chinese that Taiwan was declaring its independence and trigger an immediate attack. That is the problem. While the US might want to do this, they cannot because it would immediately subject their ally to a massive attack and draw the US instantly into an all out war with China.
Hiro S Nobumasa
The ROC-Taiwan is already an independent country so there's no need for Taipei to declare independence.
The truth of the matter is that both Washingjing and Tokyojing once had diplomatic ties with the democratic Island Republic .
All both need to do now is just re-establish diplomatic love with 'friend' and 'ally' and 'like minded' ROC-Taiwan to augment and solidify the so-called 'status quo' between the two sides of the Straits.
Thus a genuine parity will then exist between Beijington and Taipei.
This will mean peace since there will be no change in name involved.
The PR of China will not and cannot declare war on older brother the Republic of China in Taiwan because doin so will surely give birth to a Republic of Taiwan.
Hiro S Nobumasa
The current so-called 'Status Quo' between the Straits is in favor of the PR of China and unfair to ROC-Taiwan.
Washingjing and Tokyojing exclusively giving Beijington diplomatic relations while denying Taipei the favor is like highlighting a kungfu match wherein Trump and Suga provides Xi a club , helmet and a shield in fighting a bare handed Tsai.
This is like Butler playing LBJ with all the refs wearing a Lakers jersey.
This anomaly must be eliminated for peace to prevail between Taipei and Beijing.

Like all the democratic nations
As have already been famously said:
"Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…" (including China's)
Peter14
That can NEVER happen as China will never give up its sovereignty to allow anyone else to be leader. And no other country in east Asia wants to be ruled by a single communist party from China. Your personal pipe dream, nothing more. Unless your talking about Chinese Hegemony where they invade and conquer all of East Asia. The world would have something to say about that!
