Have to give her credit for openly stating what the majority of the world has known for decades. Only problem is that there are few countries that are willing to openly stand up to Beijing as she has!

Get 'em Taiwan!

Good call. Taiwan has its own political system, border controls, government, military, foreign policy and currency. It has every hallmark of an independent country. It is an independent country regardless of what Beijing might say.

Democracies around the world must support Taiwan. Time to end China's grip on anyone

The farce of pretending Taiwan is a satellite state of China needs to end.

Taiwan is a progressive society, the type of country mainland Chinese should look up to.

But the greedy dictators who rule China fight democracy and anything which vaguely resembles it.

Time to overthrow this greedy dictatorship.

This woman has more b***s than many of the male leaders in this world. Most of them have kowtowed to the CCP. Only she and her countrymen who voted for her, have the guts to stand up to communist dictators.

Go Taiwan!

China wants Taiwan because it destroyed its self 70 years ago in the Chinese Cultural Devolution. Taiwan is the success that China does want to exist because it demonstrates to Chinese citizens what TRUE democracy could be and the freedoms it affords.

China is a bully and bullies get it in the end. If China starts any war with anyone, the world will win by simply shopping elsewhere. This is a lesson that the USA is just now starting to learn the hard way and their own citizens are helping to weaken it just as the China is slowly being weakened by its own citizens. Wallets are more powerful than military might. If a loan shark kills the person who owes them to teach others a lesson then others will either not do business with them or fight back. What is China going to do, fight with all its customers? I am pretty sure they aren't that stupid to think they are the only shop in town. "Money talks and BS walks".

Tsai Ing-Wen is right, Taiwan is an independent nation. And it's prudent to not declare that independence until Taiwan has the full backing of the free world and China's threat to invade Taiwan is retracted.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

I would say without reservation that the US has Taiwan's back.

The US under its current administration has nobody's back.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Well said.

She's standing up to the bully Chinese communist govt that doesn't care about the welfare or feelings Taiwanese people in the least.

Next year will be the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Part of China. Several Japan-based China watchers are predicting the strong possibility of some mischief on China's part. Taiwan will need to be vigilant.

The world understands that Taiwan is an independent nation. The world knows that China wants Taiwan under its rule. The world lacks the courage to open diplomatic ties with Taiwan for fear of losing business opportunities in China. China threatens to break off diplomatic relations with anyone who has official diplomatic relations with Taiwan.

The solution to the China problem is for all nations to recognize Taiwan as an independent nation and invite it into the United Nations. If China then breaks off diplomatic relations with all nations and restrict business with those nations it will destroy its own economy, and it would quickly collapse. It could attempt invasion of Taiwan but would risk a war against many countries that would help defend Taiwan.

China can accept what is a reality or it can live in a fairy tale. Either way Taiwan has earned the right to be recognized as an independent Country and the world needs to step up and not be bullied by the Communist Party of China.

The big issue is that Trump is not a reliable protector, nor does he have a clue about Taiwanese history.

It is crucial for the Taiwanese that normality returns to the US presidency with a seasoned politician who respects the world order.

In my opinion Taiwan should get even closer to Japan - the two countries together would present a decent deterrent to Chinese threats.

All of which the swamp candidates would reverse?

The swamp is in power now, his sanctions hurt the US public more than China, and his daughter still does business in China when daddy dearest is having pretend sanctions.

Regarding HK and Taiwan arm sales, its nothing new that donny did.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Then why does the swamp hate Trump?

Well donny claims GOP loves him, but they may hate him, its the fear of losing which keep them loved.

I understand even his family cannot stand him, its money which holds them together.

So his sanctions have an effect,

On the US public and the poorer ones, sure. Is that whom they were meant to target?

And yes Pretend sanctions, because they hurt the US more.

Obama refused to sell arms to Taiwan.

A lie promoted by the dumb swamp.

The UN should pull a reverse 1971 and switch out PRC for ROC on security Council and as UN member. We'll see if China will respect its independence then.

True that this one lady has more balls than all the male leaders of the world combined who are kowtowing to China after China throws money on their faces. I do hope she does well and Taiwan will always be free.

All bets are off if one the corrupt establishment globalists who are now lining up replaces the current president

The current President's daughter does business with the Chinese, the President's company manufactures stuff in China and the President's son-in-laws's family cashes in on the President's name while seeking investors in China.

Go figure who is corrupt, the one whose whole family is literally in bed with mainland China or those who stand for democracy !!!!

As long as the majority of Taiwanese people and the free world reject the so called "one country two systems and reunification with the motherland," Beijing will not consider to invade Taiwan.

Immediately after the 2020 Olympics, Taiwan needs to vote to change their official name to "Taiwan", removing all mention of China. They they need to host as many international competitions as possible so people become used to seeing it and so PRC gets over the name change ASAP.

"We don't have a need to declare ourselves an independent state," she told the BBC. "We are an independent country already and we call ourselves the Republic of China, Taiwan."

President English Tsai is right !

Yet Japan , the USA and their silent partner the Peoples Republic of China all adamantly refuses to give the nascent da-kine Democratic Island Republic diplomatic recognition.

While it's a given that Red China will not give ROC, TW diplomatic love it's a big mystery and a travesty of justice that both democratic 'friend' and 'ally' Washington and Tokyo shockingly proudly march solidly shoulder to shoulder with Beijing instead of standing with Free Taiwan.

No wonder China feels at ease bullying the people of Taiwan thanks to President Trump and PM Abe's silent support.

Washingjing and Tokyojing's kowtoing to Beijing therefore should be considered as the 'Mother of All Backstabbingl' of the Century!

Judas must be so very proud of both Donald and Shinzo!

I challenge anyone from china to refuke the fact that people have a right to choose between a democratic government elected by real voters - the people, vs china who is a Authoritarian dictatorship.

What president Tsai says rings true. "Hong kong today Taiwan tomorrow".

When the people in Taiwan saw the protesters in Hong kong demanding democracy and Universal suffrage still being ignored to this day. It was evident China's lies about Hong kong being able to self govern, the "1 country, 2 system" was a sham.

China will continue to control everyone, including those Tibet and Xinjiang. Those that rose up and fought back in bloody conflict was labelled a "separatist", a "terrorist". Hence people in Xinjiang were taken against their wiill to "re-education" concentration camps. To eliminate their "extremism" and to "love" china instead.

China's attempt to discredit and slander her as corrupt and willing to use dirty tricks at any means to win did not work. It backfired because Beijing sending their aircraft carrier during the elections period was clearly seen as china's attempts at intimidation (refer also 1996 Taiwan Straight Crisis when missiles were fired to influence the election) and the police crackdown on Hong kong pro-democracy protesters was chinas rejection of allowing a democratically elected government.

Her opponent, the newly elected mayor of Kaohsiung; Han Kuo-yu of the Kuomintang (KMT) had abandoned his voters by asking for leave to run for president was seen as a betrayal to his election promises to make the city great again. His rejection of anti-china hong kong protesters, anti "taiwan independence" stance, rejection of a newly passed anti-infiltration act to stop chinese meddling and their use of pro china agents to influence in the elections was decisive factors in president Tsai's landslide victory.

True, but if one of the Democrat swamp candidates wins next election, the US will return to the old game of selling out the mainland China and strengthening the regime. Hope for the best.

TigersDome:

You mean the world order where the US cows to the mainland China regime and throws Taiwan under the bus? That is precisely why I am scared of these "seasoned politicians" aka swamp candidates.

For now, yes. All bets are off if one the corrupt establishment globalists who are now lining up replaces the current president. Better hope for the best.
