Only Taiwan should join, not CCP China.

Isn't the whole point of that trade agreement to create a counter balance to China?

19 ( +21 / -2 )

All countries support China not Taiwan!

More nations sympathies and support are firmly in Taiwan's corner. Taiwan has no real beef with any nation and is democratic and inoffensive. They should be voted in to the CPTPP with no issue.

China is belligerent to many nations and has no nations sympathy and the support of few. China will face many hurdles being accepted into CPTPP. It has been standing on the toes of too many nations in the membership to get a smooth ride in. It can blame nobody but itself for it's very poor behavior.

Let the UK and Taiwan in first. As members they will also get to veto China's application.

This may give Taiwan some little leverage over China for the first time in a long time.

The more already in before China, the more China has to show acceptable behavior to the membership nations.

Japan requirements. China keeps away from Senkaku's.

Australia requirements. China stop its trade war and restore normal contacts at minister level.

Taiwan requirements. Stop threatening behavior and stop blocking Taiwan membership in world bodies.

Malaysia requirement. China to leave Malaysian EEZ.

Vietnam requirement. China to leave Vietnam EEZ.

Etc,etc.

Excellent news! I have no doubt the 11 nations will unanimously endorse the application of Taiwan. It is a peace-loving, free and fair democracy, supported by all democracies in the world.

Hopefully all 11 block Communist China's devious attempts to join the free trade club.

Canada requirements. Release the 2 Michaels.

Some of you might not realize but Taiwan is the real ruler of China.

Study history and learn. The CCP is like

the South in America during the US cuvila

war

God bless the nation of Taiwan.

The current members admitting Taiwan into the CPTPP and rejecting China would send a powerful message to Beijing that may reduce the liklihood of China attempting to take Taiwan by force. Accepting Taiwan would be just one step towards avoiding a war. Of course China should be rejected anyway since the original TPP was designed to keep China out. Their application is merely a way of trying to get in and controlling it. We know how China works.

9 ( +14 / -5 )

They'd better accept Taiwan's application. The country worked hard for their democracy and to get where they are today... they even used to have dictators.

China needs to learn it should be more like Taiwan, instead of trying to make Taiwan more like China under the CCP. If China were more like Taiwan, the world would be a better place.

Mainland will break up into all its ethnicity areas anyway and it should.

Im not convinced Communist China breaking up into smaller ethnic states (with little or no democracy) would be much better than now. The Soviet union splintered up into some awful States and the world is not necessarily more peaceful now.

Without democracy and freedom, nothing would change.

Taiwan in, CCP definitely not in. Commies not wanted.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Welcome Taiwan in TPP, No thanks and get the heck out of here CCP

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Taiwan is a very hopeful and relevant candidate (or say "economy"? :)) It deserves to be a TPP member, and will be better off under this multilateral framework.

Neo-Maoist economy on the Chinese continent will have many hurdles to overcome.

"We have the foundation of democracy and the rule of law so all our regulations are transparent and we respect private properties," he said.

Why Taiwan should be let in and the CCP frozen out.

5 ( +13 / -8 )

We should accept Taiwan and formerly reject China

3 ( +4 / -1 )

China will oppose any country’s official exchanges with Taiwan and Taiwan region’s accession to any official agreements and organizations. They are very predictable with Taiwan.

Let them complain. What could China do? Boot the Ambassadors from the rest of TPP members who voted to let Taiwan in? That would do more harm than good. Xi would stomp his feet and make loud noises of complaint but ultimately China's hands would be tied. Gawd I would love to see it.

Don't let Communist China involve in CPTPP because Communist Chinese leader will ruin CPTPP and will not follow the rules.

Taiwan should be allowed to join CPTPP.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The CCP still does not get it. Taiwan is the rela China, but they would never ever try to take overe the mainland. Futile effort.

Mainland will break up into all its ethnicity areas anyway and it should.

Letting Taiwan in is a victory for democracy.

On the other hand admitting China and rejecting Taipei means pavin the way for Beijington to control the world.

I have a gut feeling that only Japan will vote for TW .

1 ( +4 / -3 )

When we accept Taiwan and reject China , we open the doors for other countries who also want to spurn China the economic weight and protection to do so. Thus the Pacific part of the trade pact name may need to be dropped

Exactly. The opening up of the TPP to Taiwan and others (UK? Lithuania?) would finally put an end to China influence

When it ran this story, Boris's Broadcasting Company called Taiwan and China 'places', so as not to annoy Beijing.

Japan requirements. China keeps away from Senkaku's.

And to stop state sponsored anti-Japanese teaching in elementary schools.

Exactly. Along with Canada, and many other countries. CCP China has money but not a future. The real growth comes from democracies working and competing together. Once China is in forever would it be bogged down, just like the UN. Adding Taiwan would keep China out

China frees Canadians Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig after Huawei boss released https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-58687071

So much for "rule of law" that Xi claimed was one of his 4 ... goals for China.

Not trustworthy at all.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Now that was obviously coming after China applied last week.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

@Y Okitsu If a Canadian citizen goes overseas and works for the benefit of a country like North Korea and ends up in a jail cell somewhere, nobody should provide any sympathy. Michael Spavor

can rot in jail forever. China has done the world a favour by imprisoning him. Japan, with legitimate security threats from North Korean missiles should be happy where he is.

This is liken to a $40 million contract between IHI and a Chinese supplier of aluminum from China with a specific thickness back a decade ago. They could not care less about boat collisions at the Senkakus or China. It's business and money. Businesses want to trade with China. Countries seek to increase their wealth.

cracaphatToday  07:07 pm JSTDemocracy or so-called democracy has been found wanting during this pandemic. Cough Australia, cough. So my first feeling is that Taiwan will be rejected to appease the China mainland.I can't remember the last time a country had to feel repercussions for their actions.Generally it's to pick on weak nations like North Korea. The usual big countries don't have that threat due to their economic, military or both influence. The world is so passive and weak today, that even Chamberlain would be like "Got damn.Ain't shiz changed."

A very darn good and da-kine witty piece! If this was a movie what would be your title?

Anyways, the world will be watchin how the UK and OZ votes!

Japan definitely will let TW in , no doubt about it!

Will OZ and the UK do another France? Coming soon...

Admitting Taiwan and excluding China is as likely as admitting Cuba and excluding the US.
