Taiwan is the safest counrry from the pandemic but it was not invited by Hawaii to send its citizens for quarantine waiver entry to Hawaii. Hawaii's governor pushed for Japan's tourists to be first for that waiver.

it is another misstep by Hawaii's governor and a slight against Taiwan's outstanding achievement. In fact New Zealand and Vietnam have better records than Hawaii but will get no headway from the governor who is of Japanese ancestry.

I do not know that "continental Europe" was considered a hot-spot at the time and neither do you. So your claim is he should have stopped all travel from Europe and kept flights from Wuhan open?

You must have been living in a hole then. Did someone not mention northern Italy or ski resorts, hint, hint? Meanwhile the rest of us were keeping up-to-date with the international news. No, my 'claim' (whatever that means) is that he should have stopped flights from both Europe and Wuhan. I never said he shouldn't have stopped flights from Wuhan, so stop putting words in my mouth.

The Taiwanese kept the Chinese out from early on-smart Taiwanese eh?

Fighto!

And yes, Taiwanese people wear masks as a matter of course.

Not in the picture leading this article.

Well if it wasn't xenophobic, then why didn't the man-child immediately stop travel from the hot-spot known as continental Europe? That's where the explosive cases mostly came from. We all knew it was a hot spot, so don't start to use that excuse.

I do not know that "continental Europe" was considered a hot-spot at the time and neither do you. So your claim is he should have stopped all travel from Europe and kept flights from Wuhan open? And Biden and Pelosi would have been happy with that?

Ironically, that is what Trump was critized (sic) for by the swamp, when did that. Joe Biden called it xenophobia,

and Pelosi invited people to party in Chinatown.

Chinatown had nothing to do with the virus. Are you more likely to get the virus from Chinatown than anywhere else?

Right now, using your logic, we should be avoiding contact with all Americans. They're disease-ridden. If you can't control the disease as well as even the Africans, then that's on you. The virus could have come from Mars - the most important thing is how you control it once it's landed.

I believe I read somewhere that they closed off entry from China initially. Then required 2 week quarantine for those arriving from other countries. With body temperature monitoring posts in high traffic areas setup.

For anyone testing positive they required 2 week PAID quarantine. You actually get paid to stay home with support for groceries / basic needs. A basic income support until you recovered from it. They monitored them and kept in contact with them daily.

There may be more but that's what I remember reading. Taiwan did a good job from the start even when WHO ignored them.

How did they do it? Teach us the educated plebs

If Taiwan is permitted to join WHO, they will teach every other nation how to manage future pandemics. Deaths will be hugely reduced. But of course, China refuse to let them join.

The island was also quick to tighten its borders, suspending flights from Wuhan on Jan. 23, and banning the entry of Chinese nationals who reside in Wuhan.

Ironically, that is what Trump was critized for by the swamp, when did that. Joe Biden called it xenophobia, and Pelosi invited people to party in Chinatown.

Taiwan has a strict 14-day quarantine for all arrivals, whether Taiwanese or foreign.

That is something that a small island country with controlled borders can do. Not replicable for continental countries with massive cross border traffic and often open borders.

Its simple they locked down quickly and that stopped mainland Chinese from infecting everyone. Japan was too slow.

Well done so far to Taiwanese people. Just 0.3 Covid deaths per million is world-leading and astonishing. Their contact tracing and quarantine systems are clearly the best, as is their prevention education, and the entire world should be studying and learning from Taiwan.

And yes, Taiwanese people wear masks as a matter of course.

Taiwan is a role model in how to control and manage this virus.

My admiration for this country increases day by day.

And yet, Taiwanese tourists are still banned from Japan and Taiwanese residents in Japan face huge hurdles if they go back to Taiwan and then want to return to Japan.

Authorities said Wednesday that they received notice from Japanese and Thai health authorities that three people who had recently left the island tested positive.

More likely they caught the virus after arriving in Japan and Thailand then.

Good job Taiwan! One of the reasons for Taiwan's success in controlling COVID is that they ignored WHO's initial official statements endorsing China's official line of no human-to-human transmission of coronovirus in January and instead conducted their own independent investigations based on their past experiences with SARS. Taiwan in fact forewarned WHO about human to human transmission of the virus but were snubbed by WHO.

WHO should make Taiwan a member to retain whatever little credibility they have left.
